However, in the box of immaculately kept discs that accompanied it, nearly all with variations on the same shop sleeve, I spied and photographed this disc on the UK Actuelle label - a rather striking label I've never seen before.

On this issue the Regal label lettering for this is spread horizontally across top third of label, under "Made In England" and resale price maintenance wording. Scans to follow.

Scratchy45 15th Feb 2024		78 RPM The German Opera Orchestra - Serenade For String Orchestra Op. 48 (1932)	FIrst disc of a daftly-sequenced 3 disc set continued on PO 5097/8. Why so? The discs are presented in anything but playing order. 5096 has movement 1 on 2 parts. 1st side of 5097 is movement 2 . So far so good. Then 2nd side of 5097 is Movement 4 conclusion. 1st and 2nd sides of 5098 are Movement 3 parts1 and 2.

Scratchy45 5th Jan 2024		78 RPM The Johnny Meyer Quintet - Blue Skies / Re-Bop Continental (1948)	Can't confirm what's correct but there's a Philips issue PH 5003 with "Re-Bob" too on Discogs. Hans Vlig Van Der Sys appears to be the birth name of the composer - the "Vlig" seems to have been have been dropped for some uses, used for others.

Scratchy45 11th Dec 2023		78 RPM The Budapest String Quartet (Roismann Quartet) And Benny Goodman - Quartet In A Major (A Dur), K.581 (1938)	Not terribly visible on these scans but clearer on the other two discs are credits for the Roismann quartet - (Reisemann, Schneider, Kroyt, Schneider) & Benny Goodman on Clarinet making it up to a quintet.

Scratchy45 14th Nov 2023		78 RPM Alfred Read - Outward Bound	Thanks for the image MrPasta - I think JLC135 is right to focus more on the labels, though. Fairly randomly I came across a picture of multiples of the yellow "private recording" label stock which were used to label some dubbing from wax cylinders of older field recordings made in Vanuatu. It is suggested that this occurred in 1936 - see this True Echoeswebsite for the pic (towards the bottom of the page). Use of CTPX code described as being from 1932-on here

Please consider where it might best be made on a case-by-case basis - if you do feel the request must be made. There are 14 owners of this release on the 7" vinyl format on 45cat, as opposed to the 4 here who own 78s.. I've just checked another of your recent requests where the statistics point the same way, though I fully appreciate Embassy only started to issue on the 45rpm format in 1958.

Looking at the artist's other recordings on Kelly brings up plenty of South-West English songs, some Irish, the odd Welsh and maybe even Scottish. This song (lyrics by Frank Lebby Stanton. known for "Mighty Lak' a Rose" , music by Sheridan Gordon) appears to have been picked up for performance very soon after being published by Chappell, if this source is correctly quoting the date of first publication https://imslp.org/wiki/A_Fat_Li%27l_Feller_wid_his_Mammy%27s_Eyes_(Gordon,_Sheridan) A cursory search for other recordings brings up one in 1926 by an Australian baritone before Paul Robeson's version in the 30s.

Rather eccentrically, side 1 label is scarlet red while side 2 is cream (and thus much easier to scan clearly).
