vocalion red 26th Jul 2022 | | 78 RPMArthur Pryor's Band - Dixie / Sunny South (1910) | Prices are all subjective. It boils down to what someone is willing to pay. Don't sweat the small stuff. I don't concern myself with valuations. It's just a record, and a record that is politically incorrect to play in public in the United States today. A paradox because it was one of Abraham Lincoln's favorite tunes.

vocalion red 4th Jul 2020 | | 78 RPMRudy Wiedoeft's Californians - When Buddah Smiles / The Sheik (My Rose Of Araby) (1921) | Added label images.
vocalion red 27th Mar 2020 | | 78 RPMGeorge Riley Puckett - Little Old Log Cabin In The Lane / Rock All Our Babies To Sleep (1924) | Xiphopilos, would you have any idea of who performed the dog imitations on this recording ? Could it possibly be Gid Tanner ?

vocalion red 20th Feb 2020 | | 78 RPMEarl Fuller's Rector Novelty Orchestra - Cold Turkey / 12th St. Rag (1917) | Label image added. (that didn't take long)
vocalion red 20th Feb 2020 | | 78 RPMEarl Fuller's Rector Novelty Orchestra - Cold Turkey / 12th St. Rag (1917) | I notice that my original contribution of this disc was somehow missing from my collection list here. I re-submit this to set the matter straight. I cannot send an original label image at this time because I do not have access to a camera. I will take a label image as soon as possible.
vocalion red 6th Aug 2017 | | 78 RPMThe Clovers - One Mint Julep / Middle Of The Night (1952) | Question : Why is there a need to have 4 images of the same record. Is one record a label variant. It doesn't look like one. Just sayin'.
-----
Mod edit: No need, most recent set of labels hidden.

vocalion red 6th May 2017 | | 78 RPMVernon Dalhart - Wreck Of The Old 97 / The Prisoner's Song (1924) | Side A on this record was also done on Edison (51361), 1924. Same artist but with a slightly different title.

vocalion red 6th Dec 2016 | | 78 RPMМ. Литвиненко-Вольгемут и I. Паторжинский - Дует Одарки И Карася / Дует Одарки И Карася | For those few of us who don't read/speak Russian....an English translation.....please.

vocalion red 30th Nov 2016 | | 78 RPM[Mandolinen Solo] - Smiles / Till We Meet Again (1919) | It looks like your record is from Europe. Germany is a good place to start. England also, and some parts of Eastern Europe such a Czechoslovakia from what I see. Your label resembles a German one I see from the 1910's period. That's all I got.

vocalion red 26th Nov 2016 | | 78 RPMWeary Willie - Hallelujah! I'm A Bum / The Bum Song (1928) | Not for the Perfect Record Co. I believe Perfect changed from brown shellac to standard black shellac in the late 1930's, certainly until they went out of business. The early ones from the 1920's were brown, except for one I own from 1922 that was black, but at least most were brown. Vocalion Record Co. also pressed brown shellac discs. It was said during that era that brown shellac was better than black. I don't know how truthful that was, but I have to say that some of my Vocalions are still holding up very well in the sound quality department.
BTW, Your record should have a release date of 1928.

vocalion red 9th Nov 2016 | | 78 RPMFrancis Herold - In A Little Spanish Town / All I Want Is You Dear (1926) | I remember seeing a Madison in brown shellac once. Another oddity. Should've bought that one too.
vocalion red 7th Nov 2016 | | 78 RPMFrancis Herold - In A Little Spanish Town / All I Want Is You Dear (1926) | This is the first time I have seen a Grey Gull disc in brown shellac. I acquired this for my collection solely for that reason, to serve as sort of an oddity there. Personally, I don't like Grey Gulls because the later issues are said to have below average quality audio for the era due to lower quality shellac supplies they used in the late 1920's till the time they went defunct around 1934. If any out there would like to chime in on this, please feel free.

vocalion red 29th Oct 2016 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - Jack Spratt / Three Blind Mice (1949) | Having sent this photo and a sound file to a place called the "internet archive", I have noticed for the first time a possible matrix number stamped on the disc. I estimate it to be S2018A. Also, miraculously, I have noticed what may be the original owners name, possibly a little girl's, written on the label, which I can't fully cipher. Touching.

vocalion red 24th Oct 2016 | | 78 RPMGlenn Miller - Glenn Miller: An Album of Outstanding Arrangements on Victor Records (1945) | Hey Jock Girl, You got good taste in Glenn Miller albums. I have the same album. My dad bought it in Detroit when it first came out for sale. Only difference is mine is naturally a US version of the label, and yours is Canadian.
vocalion red 19th Oct 2016 | | 78 RPMJoe Turner - Back-Breaking Blues / Empty Pocket Blues (1950) | I gotta admit.....I never would have guessed or even noticed it. What was the reason for the subterfuge? Is this a particularly rare or valuable record ? Why would anybody take the effort to do this ? (just thinking out loud)

vocalion red 19th Oct 2016 | | 78 RPMVan Eps Trio - The Original Fox Trot / That Moaning Saxophone Rag (1915) | I thank xiphophilos for the fair and equitable solution to this situation. Also for fixbutte's and slholzer's input and knowledge about these matters. This is an example of just how interesting, (and dare I say....exciting) record collecting really is.
vocalion red 18th Oct 2016 | | 78 RPMVan Eps Trio - The Original Fox Trot / That Moaning Saxophone Rag (1915) | To answer your question fixbutte, .... yes. (and) I would imagine that Victor 17677 would be easy to find on E-bay. Again, I was hesitant to enter this display, but I did it to prove a point about the importance of label photos.
vocalion red 18th Oct 2016 | | 78 RPMVan Eps Trio - The Original Fox Trot / That Moaning Saxophone Rag (1915) | I have thoughtfully provided a close up shot of the label on the B side. Please note the matrix number stamped under the label. I contacted the L.O.C. about this disc, and they told me that it was either a mis-pressing, a mis-labeling, or both. Upon playing the disc on side B, I discovered it was a mis-labeling. I was hesitant about entering this disc. There could easily have been a claim that I submitted the images from two different discs, and faked an error. However the photos don't lie, and this is why a photo for an entered disc is so important here. The song played back was "That Moaning Saxophone Rag", the label doesn't say that.

vocalion red 5th Jun 2016 | | 78 RPMInk Spots - I'll Never Smile Again / (It Will Have To Do) Until The Real Thing Comes Along (1946) | Well, the opinion of not having many Inkspots fans at 45 worlds may not be too far off the mark. Every single one of my dad's Inkspot records, I find too depressing to listen to. Only a small few do I find enjoyable enough to tolerate. I always wondered WHY he had as many as he did, when you consider the great jazz selections that were available during that period of time.
vocalion red 5th Jun 2016 | | 78 RPM"Fats" Waller And His Rhythm - Two Sleepy People / The Minor Drag (1944) | added label shots, A/B, from what remains of a family member's album.
vocalion red 5th Jun 2016 | | 78 RPMInk Spots - I'll Never Smile Again / (It Will Have To Do) Until The Real Thing Comes Along (1946) | added label shots, A/B. Since these discs are numbered, I imagine that they were part of an album set of 4 records, 8 sides.

vocalion red 2nd Jun 2016 | | 78 RPMLarry Adler - Bolero / I've Got You Under My Skin (1940) | added labels side, A/B
vocalion red 28th May 2016 | | 78 RPMAmbrose - Ten Pretty Girls / I Saw A Ship A-Sailing (1937) | Here is an interesting record disc, in that on the A side, is the "sunburst" design, while on the B side is the "flat block" design, which replaced the "sunburst" design in the late 1930's.

vocalion red 27th May 2016 | | 78 RPMRay McKinley's Jazz Band - Love In The First Degree / New Orleans Parade (1936) | added label shots, A/B.
