I don't concern myself with valuations. It's just a record, and a record that is politically incorrect to play in public in the United States today. A paradox because it was one of Abraham Lincoln's favorite tunes.

England also, and some parts of Eastern Europe such a Czechoslovakia from what I see. Your label resembles a German one I see from the 1910's period. That's all I got.
vocalion red 26th Nov 2016		78 RPM Weary Willie - Hallelujah! I'm A Bum / The Bum Song (1928)	Not for the Perfect Record Co. I believe Perfect changed from brown shellac to standard black shellac in the late 1930's, certainly until they went out of business. The early ones from the 1920's were brown, except for one I own from 1922 that was black, but at least most were brown. Vocalion Record Co. also pressed brown shellac discs. It was said during that era that brown shellac was better than black. I don't know how truthful that was, but I have to say that some of my Vocalions are still holding up very well in the sound quality department. BTW, Your record should have a release date of 1928.

vocalion red 7th Nov 2016		78 RPM Francis Herold - In A Little Spanish Town / All I Want Is You Dear (1926)	This is the first time I have seen a Grey Gull disc in brown shellac. I acquired this for my collection solely for that reason, to serve as sort of an oddity there. Personally, I don't like Grey Gulls because the later issues are said to have below average quality audio for the era due to lower quality shellac supplies they used in the late 1920's till the time they went defunct around 1934. If any out there would like to chime in on this, please feel free.
vocalion red 29th Oct 2016		78 RPM [no artist listed] - Jack Spratt / Three Blind Mice (1949)	Having sent this photo and a sound file to a place called the "internet archive", I have noticed for the first time a possible matrix number stamped on the disc. I estimate it to be S2018A. Also, miraculously, I have noticed what may be the original owners name, possibly a little girl's, written on the label, which I can't fully cipher. Touching.

I have the same album. My dad bought it in Detroit when it first came out for sale. Only difference is mine is naturally a US version of the label, and yours is Canadian.

What was the reason for the subterfuge? Is this a particularly rare or valuable record ? Why would anybody take the effort to do this ? (just thinking out loud)

Also for fixbutte's and slholzer's input and knowledge about these matters. This is an example of just how interesting, (and dare I say....exciting) record collecting really is.

(and) I would imagine that Victor 17677 would be easy to find on E-bay. Again, I was hesitant to enter this display, but I did it to prove a point about the importance of label photos.
vocalion red 18th Oct 2016		78 RPM Van Eps Trio - The Original Fox Trot / That Moaning Saxophone Rag (1915)	I have thoughtfully provided a close up shot of the label on the B side. Please note the matrix number stamped under the label. I contacted the L.O.C. about this disc, and they told me that it was either a mis-pressing, a mis-labeling, or both. Upon playing the disc on side B, I discovered it was a mis-labeling. I was hesitant about entering this disc. There could easily have been a claim that I submitted the images from two different discs, and faked an error. However the photos don't lie, and this is why a photo for an entered disc is so important here. The song played back was "That Moaning Saxophone Rag", the label doesn't say that.

Every single one of my dad's Inkspot records, I find too depressing to listen to. Only a small few do I find enjoyable enough to tolerate. I always wondered WHY he had as many as he did, when you consider the great jazz selections that were available during that period of time.
