| | Thanks, Break-In Master, for your comment. Unfortunately too late for mickey rat though because he passed away in early December 2021 (from the 45cat mod board). |

| | Mickey, it says, "Swallow Records" right on the label. I guess it was "licensed" to them by Swallow. |

| | I had this record but let it go in 1990. I did not realise its value. I worked at cloake s records in croydon in the mid 70s and we got a couple for stock in the bargain basement. I think they came with a lot of import records one time . That red pattern was the original cover. Great music. |

| | That would explain its high value and rarity. I guessed it would have been pressed as a gimmick. It looks like a regular release though. |

| | I did a bad job of summarizing what the Billboard article says and even got the number of copies wrong:
"Apple has ordered between 2-300 copies of the 78 rpm record which will be used for promotional purposes only."
So even though the label scans above look as if this was a stock record, I think that all the 200-300 copies in existence were promos. I assume this means only well-connected people even managed to get hold of one. |

| | Hey,Xiphophilos I think you mean 2-300 promo copies were produced. |

| | 2-3,000 copies of this Apple 78 were produced as part of Phil Specter's "Back To Mono" campaign, see Billboard, November 25, 1972, p. 43. |

| | Alas, the U.S. release (Apple 1852) had no corresponding 78 RPM equivalent. |

| | I have to confess that unlike almost everybody else in the world I paid little attention to the Beatles and/or what Apple Records was up to so I'm sure I'm the only one here who doesn't know the history of this record. I have however had a longtime affection for Louisiana music in general and it seems to me that this came from Floyd Soileau's Swallow label in Ville Platte. If so, how so? |
