This is clearly a matter in the early stages of research. There is no immediate need to build a box for it. That can come after the shape and nature of the contents are better known. Although I believe we will eventually find that this company worked with more than one artist and that their products had sufficient similarity to be readily identified, it would be better to have a larger sampling to work with before doing anything we might have to re-think. Also, I am aware that there is at least one Premium label that, so far as I know, is not related to these discs. Better not to sow confusion in that way.

I like KeithS's thinking about the likely meaning of the two sets of control numbers. I'm not sure it holds up entirely, as I think I've seen both sets on 10" discs, and do not believe I have ever seen a 7" version. I will need to check my notes about that, though. It's possible that he could be right and I just mis-remember. It also wouldn't be the first time a 10" matrix has been carried over to a 7" disc or vice versa. It must be apparent by now that the Liberace disc was issued so many times that opportunities for such an error were abundant.

I would not recommend attempting to put all of the Liberace discs under one entry. Although they are musically identical, they are not, discographically speaking, the same record. The system is designed to deal with them individually, and it already contains entries for more than one of them. The entry format is a good fit for them. They are adequately described in good detail and anybody looking for them can find them. If you find one, you will soon enough be led to the others, either by calling up the Liberace label list or following up the linked releases. If you have a previously unreported version, you can enter the disc in its own entry without special assistance from the moderators.

It's a different story when you try to describe multiple records in one entry. Fields containing mixed data require a more discriminating search program and, usually, a more sophisticated user. Most of the fields in this system are not intended to hold more than one discrete piece of information. Plugging in one option displaces the other. (For example, 7" vs 10") We do have entries that necessarily have more than one catalog number (mainly discs that have different numbers on each side) but we have few (if any) that have more than two, and none that I know of that might eventually have as many as 109. I don't know how the database's search capability will deal with that. (To be honest, I've never checked to see how it deals with two numbers.) The format is flexible enough to deal with multiple tracks but it requires extra effort to make it deal sensibly with multiple records (as, for instance, in the case of albums). To achieve real adequacy of documentation in such cases requires copious Notes, a complete set of photos or the establishment of links to the entries for the individual records. New photos can be added at any time, but adding new data to the catalog number line or the Notes section requires a moderator's intervention.

What speaks against combining them all, in my view, is that they have different numbers and were made for different companies. So new users won't intuitively know to add them to the one main release. And which one would that be anyway? Nr. 1, which we don't have yet in the database? I'd suggest that we just link all these related releases.

Has anyone anything against listing this pairing just once and then adding pictures or details of the individual companies who used it on the same page. The disc was available in both 7" and 10" (both 78rpm) and at least 40 maybe more companies ordered it and had their logo printed under Liberace's name.
Matrix P49190 and P49191 seem to have been 10"
Matrix RHZP 10437 and RHZP 10438 seem to have been 7"

In the interest of completeness, I also have a photo of the Liberace record numbered 29. The photo is too blurred to make out the sponsor, but the title is Dark Eyes.

I couldn't begin to guess how many there are. I am aware of one numbered 109 issued for the National Savings Bank, Albany NY. I would note that while the titles and artist credits are the same, the matrix or control number at the bottom sometimes varies from one sponsor's record to the next. It could be they recorded multiple versions, although I really doubt it.

I seem to recall at least one very similar record featuring Frankie Laine. There may be records in the number sequence by other artists, too. It may be that they should be catalogued under Premium Record instead of the artist's name.

This is the third related entry for this pairing of songs that apparently was licensed by Liberace to various businesses throughout the country. The other two we have (so far) are 22.
and 26. #2 is for Necchi Sewing Machine Company in New York City and #37 is Peoples First National Bank & Trust Company I found on the internet. Anyone know how many of these variations there are (apparently at least 49)?
