Lee Wrecker 18th Aug 2022 | | CD AlbumBarry White - Just For You (2008) | Yes, I have thoughts Magic but back to this Box Set. Helen says that her bonus disc has one track that is because it is the 2000 release cat# 07314 548076-2 this 2008 has a different cat# and barcode to that release. So not the same thing at all and indeed this version does have five bonus tracks and the 2000 issue only one. This is entered correctly as there is no full list of the extra tracks on the packaging or labels.
Other thoughts? Well maybe some looking around the web might help people sort things out before commenting on the page. I've done this myself and come unstuck a few times.

Lee Wrecker 23rd Jul 2022 | | CD AlbumOasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (1995) | You're right Leonard - it's just me that's not keen on them that much. This one was huge all over the world and even went to No.1 in Australia.
|
Lee Wrecker 12th Jul 2022 | | CD AlbumOasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (1995) | 30 owners for this release and only one from outside the UK so far. And that owner is not far away in Belgium. That should clarify the fact that this band, while huge in UK, could not manage to crack the global market to the same degree. I'm not commenting on how good, bad or indifferent this band is but just making the point that Britpop zeitgeist that existed in the UK around this time did not replicate itself across the world. Oasis and Blur for that matter did not manage to get past the indie/alternative band level on a global scale.

Lee Wrecker 14th Jan 2022 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Nuggets (1998) | It's a "Question of Temperature" Leonard. I baulked at the book but this release really must go down as the best compilation of American psyche/garage rock ever put out so thank you for completing the entry. I doubt I would have ever come back and finished it off by doing the mammoth booklet myself.

Lee Wrecker 13th Jan 2022 | | CD AlbumCaptain Beefheart - Full Moon- Hot Sun Live In Kansas (2015) | This is a bootleg and Keyhole is a Cyprus based label that specialises in unofficial releases. Hoist the Jolly Roger on this one and any other Keyhole releases on the site.

Lee Wrecker 13th Jan 2022 | | CD AlbumZoot Sims - A Summer Thing (1992) | This label also has a USA arm that uses the same cat#s but different bar codes (phew!) and I have picked up their releases here in Australia. So their stuff gets about but generally through what you would know as "pound shops" so not intentionally distributed internationally would be my assessment.
Anyway, it seems both names are correct and used on different sites to catalogue their products which doesn't help us here and it also appears that they use semi legitimate licensing practises to acquire their recordings. A lot of out of copyright or dubious licenses acquired through the likes of companies like Charly for this Eric Clapton release seem to be the norm. Muddy waters all round.

Lee Wrecker 2nd Dec 2021 | | CD AlbumGeorge Harrison - All Things Must Pass (2021) | Thanks JPGR&B I was beginning to think I'd never make people see the point. I'll send you a personal message to tell you it was never personal and go into a bit more detail.

Lee Wrecker 18th Oct 2021 | | CD AlbumGeorge Harrison - All Things Must Pass (2021) | Quad5point1 you asked "is international an upgrade?" Depends on how you look at it. If you consider it lets us know that an item has been released in at least one other country/region other than where it was manufactured it's alright. However, if want to actually know where it was released it is not so hot. If you also wanted to catalogue releases from specific countries or regions and they are listed as international you not be able to find them on this site. So the catalogue would be incomplete and inaccurate. Now before you start throwing the furniture at me I'll let you know that I'm also aware that no site in the world has managed to deal with this problem.
The other site (you know the big one) tends to list items based on place of manufacture or country of release. In the modern era this has seen their site produce listings that show items that were released in three places only EU, USA and Japan. This is because production has been centralised to these nations and they also happen to represent how rights have been divided across the globe. Japan is a special case and generally produces products for its own market with an exception being the early years of CD production. So the USA and EU currently produce the bulk of what is available in the world other than local (national) artists. The point is that listing items as either USA or EU is just as inaccurate as listing them as international because their site also does not reflect actually where a product was released other than where it was made.
No-one has managed to crack this problem satisfactorily as far as I'm aware and come up with a system that can handle both the country/region of origin and the places of release. I'd imagine it would be very frustrating for the Mods here having to continually "upgrade" entries to international and most likely annoying to site users that have put in entries to the best of their knowledge and capabilities only to see them redesignated (sorry upgraded) to international.
So the problem we have is that the other site which a lot of us use as a reference does things differently, not better and when that information or the "what's on the tin method" is used to create entries here they don't line up with our guidelines particularly well. When is an upgrade not really an upgrade? When it's international :-)) he he
It would be great if we could incorporate the data for both place of origin and places of release on the same entry without losing one or the other.

Lee Wrecker 17th Oct 2021 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Let It Be (2021) | The image supplied by Collsrt is not from this release it is in fact from the vinyl version of the same deluxe package. Quad's image shows the correct cat# and barcode for this release and Collsrt's back cover needs to be deleted as it is for a different product altogether.
I've just noticed the Quad5point1 has entered this correctly and comprehensively (linked below) so I suppose the best option would be to delete this entry altogether and notify Collsrt so he/she can shift ownership to the very nicely completed entry submitted by Quad5point1.Correction sent.
|
Lee Wrecker 16th Oct 2021 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Let It Be (2021) | I wouldn't rush into it Magic. I'm sure the six discs and maybe even the book will have specific cat#s as well and they'll be added as the evidence comes forward. It also could be the case that Quad's set has the same cat# on the back of the box as the one on the page here. It's early days on this but I'd be very surprised if there's more than one GZ Media production of this release.
I'd wait awhile before fiddling about with the entry. Images for this should start to appear all over the net and on this page in the next few days. We will be able see what the story is for sure soon So I don't think creating another entry that may need to reunited with this in the future is the way to go just now.
|
Lee Wrecker 14th Oct 2021 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Let It Be (2021) | There's nothing controversial about it Quad5point1. It's just wrong. An article from the NME dated 26th of August provides links to various Australian stores where this will be available on the same release date. Covid may intervene of course but that is the planned release date. So this is in fact international along with all the other variants of this release.
As there is a lot of resistance to the idea of EU releases actually being international on the site should I just copy them and enter them as Australian releases instead of pointing this out all the time? You could then plot my progress as I zoom up the points table in every music category. I'll send a correction and put my flak jacket on. It makes me laugh too Quad5point1.

Lee Wrecker 16th Sep 2021 | | CD AlbumFleetwood Mac - Rumours (2013) | Added Mexican inlay as per your request Magic. Do you want to change this to international or do you need more evidence. I'll be happy to oblige. By the way to the best of my knowledge everything I own was only released in Australia. So I'd be grateful if you change all of my entries to Australian as country or does this logic not work both ways?
|
Lee Wrecker 2nd Sep 2021 | | CD AlbumFleetwood Mac - Rumours (2013) | This linked release of Rumours below is listed as international on the strength of matching barcodes alone. The cat#s do not match but the barcodes do and this issue of the Beatles Revolver is listed as international and has a Canadian and EU issue that have the same label, cat# and barcode. The same correlations exist between the Canadian and EU releases of this CD so I did send a correction.
However, that doesn't apply here for some reason? Alright then. I'm just looking for some consistency across releases and asking the question and don't think your comment answers it. Would you like another crack at it?
|
Lee Wrecker 1st Sep 2021 | | CD AlbumFleetwood Mac - Rumours (2013) | International and reading the inlay will tell anyone that if they bother to look. Should I upload the Mexican version? Perhaps we should start EU world for those that have trouble with identifying how things are distributed in the modern era?
Added inlay from the Canadian release instead. There were other choices. The Australian release is different and has a different barcode so we're safe from the international dustbin on this one. Why we persist with guidelines that no-one really follows is still an ongoing mystery to me. If you know why let me know because it really detracts from my enjoyment of the site seeing items consistently listed incorrectly.
Better still change the guidelines to suit what has become common site practise so we can avoid these unnecessary problems around listing items in the international category.
|
Lee Wrecker 1st Sep 2021 | | CD AlbumGeorge Harrison - All Things Must Pass (2021) | Can you upgrade it to international then, Magic? The signs are all over the inlay and I'm not going through it all again.

Lee Wrecker 16th Aug 2021 | | CD AlbumMeat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell (2006) | 25p is still to steep to get me across the line with Mr. Loaf. I would have taken the three other items and left this with the seller. I know a lot of people love his work but I'm just not one of them
|
Lee Wrecker 15th Aug 2021 | | CD AlbumMeat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell (2006) | Released in Australia with the same cat# 88697010122, in the same year on the same labels but with an added "0" at the front of the barcode 0886970101226. Not quite international but very close Mr. Loaf. I see this extravaganza goes for about $8 Australian at the moment but I suppose most people that want Mr. Loaf's work would already have it so there mustn't be much of a market in the second hand realm.

Lee Wrecker 9th Aug 2021 | | CD AlbumGeorge Harrison - All Things Must Pass (2021) | Universal International Music B.V. use, almost exclusively, their plant in the Netherlands and GZ Media (not the best, I know) in the Czech Republic to produce their product. They are sometimes marked as made in the EU (Hilversum) and sometimes as made in the Czech Republic (GZ Media). These plants produce nearly everything that is made under the Universal International Music B.V. banner and the products are ALL intended for a global market.
Now to JPGR&B's comment about whether or not the USA version was made in the Czech Republic. Well, although it is in fact the very same release in every respect there is no actual requirement for it to be so for it to qualify as an international release on 45 Worlds. So the comment is misplaced and backs up my earlier points that "MODS should be alert to the fact that anything ... having Universal International Music B.V. anywhere on the packaging is international" and that "Universal International Music B.V releases are listed inconsistently, mostly incorrectly and the weight of opinion on the site is to continue in this manner"
We need to deal with this by developing a consistent method of entry for these products or we will have a really big mess on our hands. Really BIG!
|
Lee Wrecker 5th Aug 2021 | | CD AlbumGeorge Harrison - All Things Must Pass (2021) | Yes, Quad5point1, it seems that anything released by UMe, Universal Music Group (and especially anything coming through Calderstone Productions that owns the Beatles and related artists catalogues) under the banner of Universal International Music B.V. is in fact international.
I have pointed this out many times before but no-one seems to have grasped the concept yet. Ideally, MODS should be alert to the fact that anything made in Hilversum and having Universal International Music B.V. anywhere on the packaging is international.
For some reason many on the site are resistant to this idea. Perhaps because it consigns the whole EU Beatles (and related artists) catalogue to the international catch all category for country and national (or regional in the case of the EU) catalogues will be lost in the process. However, the Rolling Stones, U2 and Abba are also in the same boat since Universal took over PolyGram International Music B.V. in 1999. So there's only about 22 years Universal International Music B.V of releases to sort out on the site. I have had some changed to international by sending in corrections but this often entails a lengthy debates with EU users that request all sorts of proof when all the proof you need is on the packaging. The end result is that Universal International Music B.V releases are listed inconsistently, mostly incorrectly and the weight of opinion on the site is to continue in this manner.

Lee Wrecker 22nd Jul 2021 | | CD AlbumNeil Diamond - 12 Songs (2006) | Barcode here should be 828767613123 the same as the other release. According to Discwrongs this was not released in any form in the EU until 2006 and both the cat#s, with the A and without were released that year. So, the linked EU 2005 issue may need to be changed to 2006 unless we have proof it was released in 2005.
|
Lee Wrecker 22nd Jul 2021 | | CD AlbumNorah Jones - Come Away With Me (2002) | Covers for the Australasian version were printed in Australia so we might assume that the same thing happened in NZ at this stage. However, it is also quite often the case that covers can be printed in the EU and distributed world-wide and sometimes the case that local (Australian and NZ) CDs and EU made CDs are distributed simultaneously for the same release (David Bowie 1999 re-issues landed in our stores this way).
So, looking at the evidence from this end of the planet I can give a solid "I don't know" on whether NZ made covers exist or not. I'm fairly confident that they will turn up eventually though so thanks for making the NZ entry Magic..
|
Lee Wrecker 19th Jul 2021 | | CD AlbumNorah Jones - Come Away With Me (2002) | Not a surprise though Greg. This album was #1 in NZ longer than anywhere else in the world. Discogs is not the be all and end as far catalogues go and NZ releases are a different thing altogether so just because there's not one there doesn't mean there wasn't one. There was but a listing or images other than from the charts is harder to find. I've yet to find one but only had a quick squizz about on the net.
Maybe some of our Kiwi Kontingent may have a copy? The Wiki page for this album indicates this album was the #1 album in NZ for the whole of 2002. So surely there's plenty around (but none on Discogs heh heh heh!)

Lee Wrecker 15th Jul 2021 | | CD AlbumThe Specials - Too Much Too Young (1996) | Saw this "06 The Specials Do The Egg" and thought I don't know that one. Of course it's really "Do The Dog" and I'll send a correction.
|
Lee Wrecker 30th Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Revolver (2000) | Rumoured to be the work of Dr. Ebbetts. This CD strangely has the same cat# as the 1984 LP listed on our site. This is a bootleg and not listed for sale on the other site as is their policy on bootlegs. Hoist the pirate flag me hearties.
|
Lee Wrecker 27th Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumScars [Gary Moore] - Scars (2002) | Magic, could we just leave it as Scars and have the other band as Scars (Gary Moore) as there are only two listings so far. We may need to differentiate further if more appear but for now I think people looking for either band would find the one they want without further definitions being added.
|
Lee Wrecker 27th Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumBadfinger - Complete Rarities Part I (1990) | You have the cover of Part 1 (cat# VT-CD 13) and the Inlay of Part 2 (cat# VT-CD 14) so there's been a bit of a mix up there. Also, anything on the Vigatone label is a bootleg and copying entries from Discogs is not always best practice as they often contain mistakes (like these). I note Discogs lists Part 1 as from Australia but we have Part 2 listed the same for some reason. Both are bootlegs and should be listed as such.
|
Lee Wrecker 23rd Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumSupertramp - "...Famous Last Words..." (1990) | ... also made in West Germany with exactly the same details. Also released in 2013 in Brazil with same cat#, barcode, label etc. So international by our reckoning but no-one bothers with that do they? Come on, let's be honest about it.
