ppint. ● 11th Sep 2017		CD Album Planxty - Between The Jigs And The Reels: A Retrospective (2016)	track 4 sets the poem by patrick joseph mccall (1861-1919), published in his "songs of erinn" (1899) to the air or melody reputedly played as a "marching song of feagh macchugh" by his pipers in 1580; so it really should have credited mccall - but doesn't. the arrangement is by moore, o'flynn, irvine & lunny, and the performance is a superb "rabble-rousing" - or should that be "rebel-rousing" - anti-english call to arms: "rooster of a fighting stock, would you let a saxon cock/cry out upon an irish rock - fly up and teach him manners!". (fiach mac hugh o'byrne°'s rebellion, at first successful, was rapidly and somewhat bloodily crushed - as was normal for the times upon both sides, and remained so for all too long: but it's still a superb rousing call to arms, "for a' that".) (° - spell him as you will)

ppint. ● 9th Sep 2017		CD Album Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - Let's Get Classical (2004)	the 1997 date does not fit well with other mail on sunday cds cat#ed "MOS00n", "MOS01n" & "MOS02n" here on "cdworld"; yr hmbl srppnt. does not know whether it is significant that the cat# of this cd is printed on it as "MoS018" rather than "MOS018".

ppint. ● 6th Sep 2017		CD Album Pete Molinari - A Train Bound For Glory (2010)	though uk-published cds are currently° purchasable from, and distributable to, anywhere within the dreaded eu customs union and common market, there is no sign on disc or digipack that this is/was expected nor intended to be commercially distributed outside of the yuk-of-gb-and-norn-iron - and, probapossibly, the roi: so i've flagged it "uk"; feel free to vary this - preferably by finding it offered by wholesalers elsewhere. ° - but quite possibly not, by the end of 2019 - eheu! 6/2021 edit: ° - but probably not, from the end of 2021 - don't'cha just *lurve* boris-''the-lying-jackal''-johnson - ?
ppint. ● 5th Sep 2017		CD Album Various Artists - Saturday Night Sunday Morning	this is the "sunday morning" cd; DM017 on the daily mail label is the "saturday night" cd - as is evinced by the label & sleeve illustrations, and also which of "saturday night" and "sunday morning" is highlighted (in white), and which er, "low lighted" or de-emphasised, upon them.

ppint. ● 31st Aug 2017		CD Album U2 - Rattle And Hum (1988)	philmh: steve winwood's separate merkin rights arose from the days of separately-licenced deals individually licenced for brit/bpr/island productions antedating deals for the island label as a whole, right back to his spencer davis group days. by the time he launched his career as a fully solo artist early-mid seventies from about "steve winwood" and "arc of a diver" on°, in parallel with the late incarnations of traffic tours, his stature was such that he (or his agent) could negotiate separate solo deals with music corps and musicbusinessmegacorpses for the different historical markets - and did so: winwood's now a landowner in his own right, as well as a musician who can choose when and with whom he tours; - and more power to his elbow! ° - the "john barleycorn" project was originally intended to be his first, major solo album, but it metamorphosed in the recording sessions into "the traffic reunion album" - and very successfully so

ppint. ● 30th Aug 2017		CD Album Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir Charles Mackerras - Mahler • Symphony No. 5 (1997)	thanks, robozuc: i normally put the named soloist(s) before the orchestra/consort/band name in the artist field for the relevant track if they're not soloing throughout a multi-movement piece but i'm not dogmatic about this. (and especially not, when i've mislaid one, and misplaced the one i did include...) the date of the notes by andrew stewart implies that emi reissued/previously released the recording on one of their, generally available, labels in 1992/3; but I've not tried searching for this.
ppint. ● 28th Aug 2017		CD Album Lou Reed - Transformer (1998)	lee: yr hmbl srppnt.'s quite happy leaving the one "cdworld" entry for this as "international", while any better system for the different issues of most musucmegacorpses' cds (& late lps) is hatched: the thought was, to have here what cdworlders've actually seen on their copies in the wild, in which parts of the wild, to make it a smop splitting the two of 'em up in whatever way is decided upon - if indeed the two are split, once the new system's introduced.
ppint. ● 28th Aug 2017		CD Album Sofia Chamber Orchestra, Vassil Kasandjev, Bavarian Chanber Orchestra, Walter Bremer - Mozart • Serenades & Divertimenti	the label layout is closely based upon that of the uk "autograph" label, q.v, upon which label this compilation may well have previously appeared ~1995; but although the (p) & © reference castle communications plc, there is no statement that "rondo" is a subsidiary of theirs.

ppint. ● 26th Aug 2017		CD Album Lou Reed - Transformer (1998)	i have this, bought new in the uk in 2001, when it became an excess-stock clearance item or remainder cheap enough to forget^W ignore the fact that i'd bought the lp full-price when it was originally released. it had previously been distributed in the uk & the rest of yeurrp at full price (- yr hmbl srppnt.'s unaware of whether they also saw the remainder/partial remainder at £2.99 or equivalent thereof in the rest of yeurrp). i think this means it gets re-flagged as "international", which isn't entirely satisfactory, but in the world of musicbusinessmegacorpses translates as "distributed throughout the eu, optionally including the yuk-of-gb-and-norn-iron and the republic of ireland, and at least one of the other historic/remaining groups of countries/territories regarded as separate markets, e.g. australia, but excluding merkia and optionally (usually) canadada" - so "international" is at least shorter! edit, 11.30pm: the matrix-equivalent is only readable in mirror-writing on the reverse: DISCTRONICS 74321601812 02 (and what looks like an ifpi number stamped? in, but it's too small for yr hmbl srppnt. to read) (and something else indecipherable in really tiny underneath the DISCTRONICS) on the obverse, there is no perimeter text: above the biem/gema there is fine print "all trademarks and logos are protected. rca is a registered trademark of general electric company, usa. distributed by the local bmg company. a unit of bmg entertainment made in the eu".
ppint. ● 26th Aug 2017		CD Album Luther Grosvenor - Floodgates Anthology (2001)	yr hmbl srppnt. wasn't aware that any recordings had been made by "deep feeling"; was this a privately-recorded - and whence did it escape? during his mott the hoople days, and also in his career as a jobbing - sometimes brilliant - session guitarist - luther grosvenor was known as "ariel bender" :-)

ppint. ● 24th Aug 2017		CD Album Sandy Denny - Sandy (2012)	philmh: i'm not sure universal're even slightly bothered by the chronoclasm, nor concerned to reflect the contemporaneous labels on their output; the classic pink label with the outline label name is - they'll have thought - the one that the now middle-aged baby-boomers remember fondly, so it's the one they'll run with for all the reissues from the island family of artists of the period - even if the album wasn't on the island label - like nirvana's thrid lp, "to markos III"° - ! ° - which was a metromedia/pye international release/withdrawal, after being rejected by chris blackwell
ppint. ● 23rd Aug 2017		CD Album The Chieftains - Down The Old Plank Road • The Nashville Sessions (2002)	there's a large side-bar peelable silver label promo-blurbing the contents and the artists guesting which i've not detailed, and i think i maybe ought to give the members of the del mccoury band, too - but tablettything's very nearly out of juice, and yr hmbl srppnt.'s very nearly scratching my eyes, to keep them from closing: maybe tomorrow...
ppint. ● 21st Aug 2017		CD Album Neil Young - Archives Vol. 1 (1963-1972) (2009)	@ady_lister: if you are the original contributor, you can make "creative" use of the "copy to all" feature for the composer field: if there's a number of different composers (or composer partnerships) that recur: list all of these in track 1's composer field, copy to all, and then delete selectively all those not composers of each of the specific songs as you follow down the track-listing, and add in any odd (or even) composers not amongst those recurring names. this "copy to all" feature is a time-saver not available to anyone following up inputting composers that the original contributor's not been bothered to provide.
ppint. ● 21st Aug 2017		CD Album Neil Young And The Shocking Pinks - Everybody's Rockin' (2000)	@apollo59: not sure what's to apologise for; and yes, merkin music corpses, especially with regard to pop music, regarded them as two - or even just one - a-sides plus eight or nine b-sides° in the 60s. ° - i think that was phil spector's formulation, characterising an album - but i'm not absolutely certain now - it was half a century ago!

ppint. ● 20th Aug 2017		CD Album Neil Young And The Shocking Pinks - Everybody's Rockin' (2000)	lee: one of the many abiding° strangenesses regarding the wonderful music industry-money-making machine is the way that the merkin & canadadian tentacles of their megacorpses seem to exclude themselves from the world when one or another of their other tentacles release international cd editions of albums - even where the musucmegacorpses in question owns or currently controls world rights to the recordings. this may be for local legal reasons, including how they thus avoid, rather than evade, import tariffs and duties, keeping track of fees payable by them to different copyright-holders and differing royalty rates payayable in the different traditional publishing markets or territories°°, or - for all yr hmbl srppnt. knows - different demands made by the local deities and/or their self-appointed sole representatives on earth. - but it does mean that the "international" flag , or absence of flag, that 45worlds uses consequently doesn't mean what the word "international" obviously means to everyone unaware of this, including to people just arriving here, or even coming to "cdworld" from the "lpworld" part of 45worlds. (and even in "lpworld", we have the fun of trying to work out when & whether apparently dutch or german lps are in fact yeurppean - and, if so, whether yeurppean does or doesn't include yuk-of-gb-and-norn-ironian...)(i shall refrain from risking reraising "the xxxxian question"°°°) ° - so far... °° - i've only just learned that royalty rates differed between merkin & yuk-of-gb-and-norn-ironian markets'/territories' "best of" albums compiling a group/band/artist's singles (or single a-sides) - which is apparently why their albums were often/usually anything from two to four, or even more tracks shorter than ours (thanks, philmh) °°° - cf. "the muntab question", if you're a discworld reader; or "the schleswig-holstein question", if you're a historian interested in the victorian era and/or the habsburgs, the rise of prussia, bismarck, etc.
