vidman45 2nd Oct 2014 | | CD AlbumJackie DeShannon - The Best Of Jackie DeShannon (1991) | I just noticed that there are two separate databases for Jackie DeShannon - with and without a space in her last name. There are 15 CD's with no space, and 9 with the space. I don't know which spelling is correct, but think the two should be combined so we can browse all of her CD's on the same list, and to avoid possible duplication of listings. There isn't even an "Also See" link at the top of either database.

vidman45 15th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Everly Brothers - EB 84 (1984) | When "On The Wings Of A Nightingale" became their first chart single in 17 years, I liked it, and wanted to support them, so I bought the US 45, and then the LP. I must not have had a CD player in 1984, but when I later found this CD, I bought It too. I did not notice at the time that it was a German issue.

vidman45 8th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumLink Wray - Walkin' With Link (1992) | Added this CD of songs recorded for Epic and Okeh Records from 1959 to 1963, between his hits on Cadence and Swan. Most were released as Link Wray and The Wraymen. This set contains some unreleased and alternate tracks and 9 stereo re-mixes.

vidman45 7th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Laurie Records Story (1990) | On the topic of bronzed CD's, here is mine. I have read that Ace recalled and replaced bronzed discs, but I didn't know until after the recall deadline. Luckily, I was able to rip it to CD-R before it stopped playing. Even the booklet pages look bronzed!

vidman45 7th Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumSmokey Robinson And The Miracles - Compact Command Performances (1983) | Should the label be Tamla instead of Motown? I have been adding some early Motown CD's in the Compact Command Performances series, and didn't notice that this one was on the Tamla label. Moderator may make the correction if needed.

vidman45 3rd Sep 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - 25 All-Time Greatest Summer Songs (2000) | I raised this question of Varese Sarabande and Varese Vintage in the Forum about 3 weeks ago (13 Aug 2014), and have received NO replies or comments. So I have continued adding my CD's to the Varese Vintage database, until instructed otherwise.
On their website,
http://www.varesesarabande.com/servlet/StoreFront
It appears that Varese Sarabande is the main company, and Varese Vintage is its pop re-issue series. But both are the same company, so I feel that both databases should be combined to avoid confusion or dual entries, and to display a more complete discography. Most of the CD's that I own have the Varese Sarabande logo with Varese Vintage printed below on the labels and back covers. The "Sarabande" releases seem to be mostly soundtrack re-issues, and the "Vintage" releases are pop and rock collections.
Unfortunately, some contributors to CD World do not add back covers or label images that would show the "vintage" designation.

vidman45 27th Aug 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Chantels - The Best Of The Chantels (1990) | I just discovered that my copy has a different front cover photo than the one added by RPFiller. With a nod, I have added the alternate front cover and 3 other images.

vidman45 26th Aug 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Beverly Hillbillies (TV Cast) (1993) | If any members can add the CD release date, please do so. It is not shown on the disc or printed material inside, and I am unable to estimate the date from other entries in the Columbia / Legacy discography. I entered this disc as a Various Artist album because it is not exactly an original soundtrack. I seem to recall that there was a cast LP released on Columbia in 1963, and possibly a budget reissue LP later on Harmony. Neither has appeared in the Vinyl LP section.

vidman45 14th Aug 2014 | | CD AlbumThe Archies - 20 Greatest Hits | I have one of these that I bought in a discount store in the USA for about $2.00 back around 1990. Printed in West Germany? The disc-label says 'Made in Korea'. When I play it, my player displays song titles by 1950's acts such as Pat Boone, The Platters, etc. No composer credits are given anywhere. On the plus side, all 20 tracks are stereo.

vidman45 13th Aug 2014 | | CD AlbumDel Shannon - Runaway / One Thousand Six Hundred Sixty One Seconds (1997) | I have added 3 more Del Shannon CD's and images today.
|
vidman45 10th Aug 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Big Hits Of Mid-America (1998) | Added a 2-CD box set of Soma Records and noticed that three of the label's most famous recordings are absent from the collection. "Mule Skinner Blues" by the Fendermen, "Suzie Baby" by Bobby Vee and the Shadows, and "Six Days On The Road" by Dave Dudley. Soma must not still own the rights to these records. Otherwise, this is a very good label comp.

vidman45 8th Aug 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Best Of Ace Records (1992) | I was going to add this CD, but it is already here.
Tracks 03, 10, 11, and 14 are in 2-track stereo.

vidman45 22nd Jul 2014 | | CD AlbumBobby Rydell - Now And Then (2000) | Abkco Records, owner of the Cameo-Parkway catalog delayed re-issuing for years (decades). Albums started appearing on labels such as Cam-Park and Liberty Bell, and the artists such as Bobby and Chubby were making no money from them. Both began re-cording their hits and releasing them. Bobby's earlier attempt at this, the "Dream Lover" album (see above) turned out to be unsatisfactory. In 2000, he tried again with a larger band, and this one sounded much better. The remake of "I'll Never Dance Again" sounds fantastic in stereo. Many of us are not fond of re-recorded songs, but many fans want to own everything that the artist did.
|
vidman45 22nd Jul 2014 | | CD AlbumBobby Rydell - Dream Lover | Added a CD of questionable origin by Bobby Rydell. It was released sometime in the 1990's in two versions - 15 songs and 10 songs. It contains remake versions of songs by Bobby and other acts, backed by an un-credited small combo, and songs from his PIP/Pickwick LP. The 10 song version was likely aimed at cut-out bin sales. The full "Born With A Smile" album was later released on Plum Records with full credits, bonus tracks, and better sound quality.
|
vidman45 9th Jul 2014 | | CD AlbumTommy Sands - The Worryin' Kind (1992) | Collection has some classic Rock 'n Roll songs from 1957-1962. 32 page booklet has pictures of Tommy with his wife Nancy Sinatra. Tracks #5, 6, 25, 29, and 30 are in stereo.
|
vidman45 5th Jun 2014 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Surf And Drag, Volume 1 (1989) | I just realized that I own this CD. Although they don't credit the original label, these are some pretty obscure Challenge recordings, and 7 of them are in stereo. Gary Usher composed and produced many of them. Where else can you find this Jan & Dean B-side in stereo? There was also a Vol. 2 in this series with some Colpix, Deminsion, and Jubilee tracks.

vidman45 3rd Jun 2014 | | CD AlbumIke And Tina Turner - River Deep (1987) | added Longbox images

vidman45 17th May 2014 | | CD AlbumJoanie Sommers - The Complete Columbia Recordings (2013) | Included as a bonus track is Joanie's mid-sixties Pepsi jingle.
