Dick uses "elements" from the Kenny Nolan penned song "Shoot 'Em Up Movies" which was recorded by The Deele and became a top 10 R&B hit in 1988. Kenny Nolan's name jumped out of the liner notes of this CD because one of his songs Honey, You Can't Take It Back" was recorded by Dobie Gray and released on the White Whale label.

whitewhale1965 30th Jan 2020		CD Album The Exies - Head For The Door (2004)	"Third album from L.A based rockers The Exies sees the band steering away from the multi-layered intellect of ‘Inertia’ and getting back to a more solid riff based platform. Producer Nick Raskuliecz (Foo Fighters) has been drafted in to achieve the desired effect. Certainly this is much more of a rock album than its predecessor, yet it retains the hooks that defined the 2003 release. Opener ‘Slow Drain’ swaggers into corporate grunge territory, whilst the power chords of ‘Ugly’ combined with Scott Stevens growling vocal chords show an undeniable fondness for Nirvana. ‘My Opinion’ hammers along at a breakneck speed with a great hook and it’s track 10 before there’s any respite with the power ballad ‘Tired of You’; proof-if any was needed-that this is as full on testosterone fuelled modern rock album as you are likely to hear." ~alternative addiction

Features Tony Levin and Steve Gadd. I'd file this one with James Taylor. This copy, sent to a university radio station, is slightly different from what it looks like on his website.

whitewhale1965 28th Jan 2020		CD Album Lower East Side Stitches - Lower East Side (2000)	Lower East Side Stitches represent New York City's downtown punk rock scene in all its drunken, glue-sniffing glory -- in fact, they remain one of its last authentic voices. On Lower East Side, the Stitches expand on their classic punk sound a bit by adding slightly uncharacteristic (for punk rock, anyway) instrumentation, with successful results -- the caterwauling saxophone on "TV Zoned Out" only enhances that song's sloppy appeal, while the ersatz spaghetti western Spanish guitar/trumpet combination on "Grudge" adds an appropriately tequila-drenched haze to the track. The Stitches are punk purists who nonetheless aren't afraid to take a few chances here and there. ~AllMusic Review by Andy Hinds

One time Dave Stewart was handed a demo cassette by the Tilburg group Soft Parade. He was enthusiastic and offered the group a contract. Sometimes things move very fast. Just Lucky? Yes, but the music is good too. Rustic songs with a very direct sound. It's no coincidence that the debut album is entitled "Puur", the Dutch word for pure. The relationship between Soft Parade and Dave Stewart developed so well that he ended up producing the album and they went on tour with his wife's group, Shakespears Sister. Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks is the narrator throughout and the composer of those stories and monologues. 2. Regarding the orchestra or orchestras heard on these recordings the answer is: "The music for the Exodus main theme was an orchestral performance supplied to the Producers from EMI Music. Each individual music track has its own separate musical compositions and arrangements and therefore it is not correct to presume this is the same orchestra playing on other orchestral parts throughout the 2 disc set."

whitewhale1965 9th Jan 2020		CD Album Various Artists - Every Day Is Earth Day (1997)	Compilations dedicated to good causes trigger me. Of course I enjoy the music. But the organizations themselves collect a ton a cash using sentimentality and hope and they never ever deliver closure. Bangladesh, Boznia, Africa, Farm Aid, the Rainforest, the Oceans - they all have their own albums. But Tears Are Not Enough! Apparently we are now in a death spiral which will end with conditions on the planet becoming detrimental to and impossible for most life forms to carry on. Species all around the globe are disappearing rapidly. We're on the list, too. Some expect a sudden change in the near future [methane eruptions?] that will quickly move us up the list of goners - inevitably to the top. This organization - Earth Day - has never done anything worthwhile that could have changed this fact. No enviro-organization has accomplished anything of value. No well-intentioned music albums have helped, either. Greta can't help. How can any of us be inspired by any of us? We are the destroyers of worlds. So sit back and enjoy the music while you still can.
