Bill_C 20th Jul 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Many Sides Of Gene Pitney | Thanks, Jake. I think I have made a big mistake and purchased a DES version (Digitally Extracted Stereo). This is a bit like what Eric Records have been doing, even though mine is not from Eric Records. It is also very heavily compressed to give a perceived loudness which is fatiguing to the ear.
In the late 1970s, Gusto Records Inc. purchased the complete Musicor catalogue of grand master tapes. I've listened to all their albums with Town Without Pity, and not one is stereo. But the sound is far better.

Bill_C 4th Jul 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumGene Pitney - The Many Sides Of Gene Pitney | If someone has this stereo LP, can they compare "Town Without pity" to this 60 second excerpt of a stereo version I have please? Link to Town Without Pity - Stereo The piano is in the left channel, drums are on the right. The backup singers appear on the left also. Is it exactly the same as the LP?
This is the version off the mono album. Link to Town Without Pity - Mono

Bill_C 24th Dec 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Viscounts - The Viscounts Rock | I just read when Bell started its new LP series in 1966, albums on Amy and Mala were discontinued in favour of all albums being issued on the parent Bell label. By late 1969, the owner stopped issuing 45s on Amy, and quietly folded it back into the parent company, Bell. By November 1974, various Columbia legacy labels - like Bell Records - changed into a new entity named Arista Records. In early 1975, most of the artists who had been signed to Bell were let go.
I may be wrong, but I think this was pressed late 1960s and before 1974. Discogs do not show a date and an Internet search found nothing.
I do not own this LP and hopefully George can find those etched matrix numbers.

Bill_C 19th Dec 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Viscounts - The Viscounts Rock | Are you sure this was pressed around 1980 - 1990? The catalogue # AMY-8008 is the same as their Harlem Nocturne album released Dec 1965, which adds to the confusion.
It looks like The Viscounts may have disbanded in 1967. At leased that was when their last single was released on Coral: A: Sweet Georgia Brown B: Moonlight In Vermont.
