Not sure if this topic has been raised but I would like to start a list of albums that hardly ever get a mention but are, for whatever reasons, not classified as classics even though they are outstanding in their own field.
I would like to start off with the Isley Brothers and the album 'Live It Up'. Apart from the fact that it has some of the funkiest laid-back grooves around it also shows off the brilliant guitar skills of Ernie Isley. The title and opening track is unrivalled in a funky groove IMO.
Next I would like to nominate Icehouse and their brilliant album Love In Motion. Pure Pop magic, one and all. Standout tracks- Uniform, Street Cafe, Hey Little Girl and Glam.

Allow me to be the first to veer off-topic -- I can do that cause I'm a girl - -albeit a tomboy.
I find that much of the pop music of non-English speaking world, especially that of Eastern Europe where my folks are from, is vastly under-rated simply because it is not in English.
I take, for example Véronique Sanson's original French version of Amoureuse (Elektra F 12040), which thanks to out friends in Quebec, we were able to hear locally, is oh so very sensual when compared to Kiki Dee's version -- which ain't bad either! Both blow the doors off Helen Reddy's version -- with the totally different title Emotion.
A great tune that gets to your heart -- can make you like jelly inside or get you on your feet -- is a great tune no matter what language its sung in.
I am listening to Véronique Sanson's original French version of Amoureuse as I type this and can't wait until Sparky gets home from work.

My current favourite album is Strange Angels by Kristin Hersh.
She came onto my radar via a compilation album, which had a Throwing Muses tracks on it: "Dizzy", which I really loved. I bought the album, Hunkpapa, but was underwhelmed.
A few years later, I heard a solo single, "Your Ghost", featuring guest vox by one Michael Stipe, which I also really loved! I decided to try again and bought that parent album, Hips & Makers.
This time, it stuck so I decided to try the Muses again and this time I "got" it!
I have now bought everything I can featuring or by Kristen Hersh. The best one, IMHO, is Strange Angels, where she was sounding like a Melanie of the 90s (is how I pictured it). It's like a bedsit album, all acoustic, redolent of The Kick Inside in places.

Another non-English one that is brilliant and gets my Slavic blood going is the group Riblja Čorba from Serbia (former Yugoslavia) and the song Pogledaj dom svoj anđele (Look Homeward Angel)

Kiss are pretty underrated.

In terms of their early/mid 70s stuff, I think that's absolutely true.
Perhaps I'm brainwashed though; my older brother was (and probably still is) an absolute devotee of all things Kiss, even going so far as to get the same tattoo as Paul Stanley (the small red rose on the upper arm). For a good few years as a young lad, I heard nothing BUT Kiss!

I'll take a go at this and I'll subdivide between major artists and lesser known artists (major artists can have underrated albums, too!) and I'll start with two from the previously mentioned KISS:
KISS: "Unmasked" & "Music From The Elder"
Queen: "Queen"
Heart: "Jupiter's Darling"
Slade: "Nobody's Fools"
Cheap Trick: "All Shook Up"
From the lesser known side:
Toy Matinee: "Toy Matinee"
Cry Of Love: "Brother"
The Corrs: "In Blue"
The Donnas: "Gold Medal"
Dream Theater: "Falling Into Infinity"

Okay -- I know its Eurovision -- (BTW -- I am not the only one in Canada who knows and loves the ESC) -- but this CD by Ruslana is THE one to get me dancing!
