Just got this one today

estell-vasser-and-the-joy-spreaders-i-love-to-call-jesus-music-city-78-t.jpg

Music City 78-883

A Side: Estell Vasser And The Joy Spreaders - I Love To Call Jesus
B Side: Dorothy Hunt And The Greater Emmanuel Church Choir - When The Gates Swing Open

All research that I have done points to it being from 1965.

Fascinating!

Amy

It was always thought that the phasing out of 78's was ignored by companies whose main customers were poor blacks (unwilling and unable to invest in new record playing equipment) or Hillbillies (living in cabins without electricity and with a similar economic problem)
A bit of a simplification but producers of Polka Music like Dana said that their customers wore out a 78 but demanded a replacement in the same format and their replacement market was large.
There were companies who kept producing and selling 78's because their customers were suspicious of, or unable to, embrace the 45 format

Interesting! Wouldn't be surprised if gospel music was another niche market where the 78 rpm format was able to hang on longer.

Interesting indeed. That seems uncommon but not incoherent.
