No picture 'cos I'm not into 45rpm :( Member since Jan 2013 3425 Points Moderator
I've recently been reading some UK 'Sounds Vintage' magazines from 1962. One of the things they raised was why Okeh records were so much more expensive than Parlophones for Louis Armstrong releases etc., as the Parlophones are probably better pressings than the Okehs. Its still the same today.
I've listened to and restored almost all my 78rpm records, and I only buy what my interests are. I can compare this with one of the other mods who I asked for a transcription of one of their records a couple of years ago. He replied that he didn't have any way of playing a 78rpm even though his house was overflowing with his 78rpm collection..
So I think I'm a 78rpm 'Listener' rather than a 'Collector'.

In my case maybe not 140..but definitely 125 (at least)! I DO listen to every record, tape, CD etc. I buy, read every book, watch every DVD but 125 is a rough guess. (It'll probably taken longer than that to get through everything). I KNOW I shouldn't have bought those 12 new (well to me anyway) CDs' over the weekend, but hey..I LOVE my music etc!

If I have not heard the needle drop on my own equipment most of the stuff of interest I acquire or add here I have probably listened to on the net. I have some still to play, when I had a car and a cassette player I probably heard more too. I would doubt I will do all of the classical LPs. Maybe each track on Worlds/Cat needs a I've heard it button

I don't own anything I haven't listened to and want to listen to again. If I don't like it it's out the door. So, definitely a listener in my case. Collectors can be listeners, hoarders, traders, speculators or super fans of one artist and suppose the list goes on so there really is no difference except some people by music for their listening pleasure and some don't or are combination of the two.
I once sold two very rare 45s in the 80's when I was a starving student. When the buyer arrived at my door, salivating and sweaty with anticipation I told him the records were both in perfect order as I had just played them to check (and record for myself if truth be known) and he said "Oh, good but I'll never play them". That's not the way I operate but some people do.
