I went to a boot fair last weekend and didn't find any records to buy. On the way back to the car at the end of the day you would usually see videos, books and bits and pieces dumped however at the end of this day I came across 2 different stacks of 100 lps and 12" just left behind ! I didn't take these as I seen them earlier and they were pretty rough but then l came to another load of 20 78s they were all in card sleeves some with company names on and mostly from the 30s I took them and will upload those not on the site. I was sad to see records just dumped. Anyone else seeing the same thing happening ?
I would think that the owners have been trying to get rid of them for ages and couldnt even give them away.
I see it happen all the time with books. Its morally wrong to burn books apparently even if you cant give away the 40 kg of them you want rid of so you offer them for free and people say "I,ve got the same problem...if I bring mine you can put them in the heap"
Its not often you see a sign "Free records..take 'em away" There might be something valuable there and how silly would that make you look when someone picks up the heap saying "Wow"
Its easier not to be there

78s take up space ( and LPs too ) , I have cleared up after boot sales but had too much to fit in the car - a selection of stuff went to charity shops / book banks but even then for some books using as firewood does make sense if common items. Found another small pile of CDs in the communal recycling bins today ( more last week now mostly freecycled ) and I have 100 CD singles still to scan and add from earlier in the year that were thrown out. Its the problem of no commercial value and I dont think many charity shops would like to give too many 78s room - the number of paying collectors is too few , other than maybe some jazz or dance band issues.

Todays after boot fair ( and bin round the back of Charity Shop B ) , provided 4 large carrier bags of VHSs, Audio Casettes-Books and Discs , a couple of LPs 4 45s , some books and about same again that I could not carry. No 78s though. The Cassettes will be off to a different charity after I have sorted through them.

Bear in mind that those prices are for specimens in mint condition. There is usually a fair drop-off in value even when it goes down to 'excellent'. Don't plan the holiday in Hawaii just yet!

Free Records- yes picked some up in Letchworth , some of which fed these worlds , some sold , some still taking up space.
I have no problem with burning books)or magazines) to keep warm , much stuff that hit the printers is not worth the time reading , is full of incorrectness or debauchery. Having said that they should be reviewed first in case there are some rare books. Oxfam pulp and sell some for insulation. I picked a couple of books out the bin of the private flats over the road , sold one yesterday - meanwhile my bought in books languished untouched at the book fair.
Paul - beware of old 78 record players ( see vintage-radio.net) as many can cost you more to properly get working , try some of the USB turntables ( with a 78 sapphire needle ) less heavy to move around and you can easily store to your computer ). My music centres need taking apart and re-greasing etc , but I don't have the space to store all the little bits while I am doing that. 78s at 20p, yes I would go for them , round here charity shops and boot fair sellers seem to think £1 each is a fair price ( prob is but its over my budget ).
