Bill Fick 4th Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumWarrant - Cherry Pie (1990) | Love how the pie slice is strategically placed on the front cover. Back cover needs no comment... Almost as good as "Mom's Apple Pie".
Bill Fick 3rd Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumDale Hawkins - Oh! Suzy-Q (1958) | As mentioned in the Notes, the All-Platinum pressing is a re-issue, but it has the same catalog # as the original. It also uses the original cover art/liner notes, the only difference is that the original front cover was black & yellow, where the re-issue is black & white. The cover is full of typos. Dale was on Checker, which is what this LP should've been issued on, yet the label & front cover say Chess. The back cover says Argo. A number of the earlier LPs from the Chess stable of labels were rife with typos also.

Bill Fick 1st Nov 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Astronauts - Rockin' With The Astronauts (1965) | Anyone know why this was a "Special Collector's Edition"?
Bill Fick 31st Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis Is Back (1960) | I should have clarified... The stickers were applied after the fact...
Bill Fick 31st Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Rolling Stones - Big Hits (High Tide And Green Grass) (1966) | Only ever seen one copy with that different print...was unaware that it was a record club pressing.
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Scott - Jack Scott On Groove (1980) | Cover photo is backwards. Jack is not a lefty...
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Kissin' Cousins (1964) | 1st pressing of this cover has no photo of the film cast on the front.
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJerry Lee Lewis - Jerry Lee Lewis (1958) | Track B6 ("It'll Be Me") is a completely different version than the 45 release (Sun 267).
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - The Unissued (1978) | This LP was my introduction to the great Bear Family label. Bought this at the World Of Music in Nuremberg back in the '80s.
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - Tall Man (1979) | A rarities LP, made up of both originally unissued material & non-LP tracks.
Bill Fick 30th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis Is Back (1960) | 1st pressing covers (both mono & stereo) have yellow stickers on them with the track listing. Reason for that is because the covers were printed well in advance of the actual recording sessions for this LP. When the covers were actually printed, no one knew what the track line-up would be yet. This is Elvis' 1st post-Army LP, in addition to being his 1st LP recorded in true stereo.
The same holds true for Elvis' 1st post-Army 45 ("Stuck On You" - cut at the same sessions), the sleeve was printed with no titles listed & a die-cut hole in the sleeve, because it was also printed well in advance... Again, no one knew what the A/B sides of this 45 would be when the sleeves were printed.

Bill Fick 26th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Rolling Stones - Big Hits (High Tide And Green Grass) (1966) | Earliest pressings of this LP cover have a totally different style of printing on the front...
Bill Fick 26th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Rolling Stones - The Rolling Stones (1964) | I always wondered why the earliest pressings of this (which is the one I have, deep maroon "ffrr" label) were pressed in the UK & then shipped to the US?
Bill Fick 25th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Burning Love And Hits From His Movies Vol. 2 (1972) | Due to Tom Parker's penchant for grabbing a quick buck, I believe that this was the first time that a current Top 10 hit was released on a budget-label LP...
Bill Fick 22nd Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Pot Luck (1962) | 1st pressing cover had the RCA "Nipper" logo on the front. Stereo pressings had RCA's "Living Stereo" moniker in the upper left-hand corner.
Bill Fick 19th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis' Gold Records Volume 4 (1968) | Yes, this & "Speedway" (both from '68) are his 2 rarest mono LP's, both go for tons more money than the stereo versions. I have a US mono pressing of this also...
Bill Fick 19th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumIron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (1968) | I had a very strange pressing of this LP at one time. Yellow label (just like the one pictured), but Side 2 was banded exactly like Side 1, looking like there were 5 tracks on each side. At first, I thought it was a factory mis-print, & somehow, Side 1 got pressed on both sides of the record. But when I played it, Side 2 played "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" all the way through, regardless of the banding. Damnedest thing I'd ever seen...
Bill Fick 18th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe McCoys - Hang On Sloopy (1965) | Would anyone happen to know what album the "long" version of "Sloopy" (with the extra verse) is on? It's not on this one...
Bill Fick 17th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Highwaymen - The Highwaymen (1960) | 1st cover does not have the blurb about "Michael" on the front...
Bill Fick 17th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Fleetwoods - The Fleetwoods Greatest Hits (1962) | This mono pressing has the full version of "The Great Impostor", whereas the stereo pressing doesn't...
Bill Fick 17th Oct 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumArlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant (1967) | 1st pressing is on the multi-colored label.
Bill Fick 23rd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumNancy Sinatra - Nancy In London (1966) | My copy has a sticker on the front cover that says, "Includes 'Summer Wine' "...
Bill Fick 22nd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumNancy Sinatra - Boots (1966) | This, "Sugar" & "Whipped Crean And Other Delights" by Herb Alpert & the TJB have to be 3 of the hottest '60s-era US LP covers ever...
Bill Fick 6th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Sebastian - Cheapo-Cheapo Productions Presents Real Live (1971) | Great live album. John solo with mostly just a guitar & not much else. Pretty low-key, has some intimacy to it, like John could be playing at your private party or something.
Bill Fick 6th Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Knack - Get The Knack (1979) | I believe that this was the first Capitol LP I came across with the resurgence of the old "rainbow" label.
Bill Fick 2nd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Haley And The Comets - Rock With Bill Haley And The Comets (1958) | 23skidoo, are the Quality & Paragon pressings US releases also?
Bill Fick 2nd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash And June Carter - Carryin' On With Johnny Cash And June Carter (1967) | Re-issued in the early '70s with a different cover, same cat #. And with good reason. On the original cover, John looks like a refugee from Dachau. This was in 1967, when he'd almost bottomed out from the pills. Album was re-titled "Jackson".
Bill Fick 2nd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - Mean As Hell! (1966) | Single LP pulled from the 2-LP set, "Ballads Of The True West".
Bill Fick 2nd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - Ride This Train (1960) | 1st pressings came with a paper insert with liner notes penned by Merle Travis.
Bill Fick 2nd Sep 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohnny Cash - Now, There Was A Song! (1960) | 1st pressing (mono & stereo) on the "6-eye" label. Interesting LP, one of the few occasions where you'll hear Cash with a traditional C&W backing of fiddle, steel guitar & honky-tonk piano. "Transfusion Blues" is "Cocaine Blues" toned-down slightly, & the only song on this LP with a boom-chicka-boom arrangement. Would've been a better B-side than either "Seasons Of My Heart" or "Honky-Tonk Girl" (which were issued as B-sides in 1960).
