Bill Fick 29th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumIke And Tina Turner - River Deep (1969) | I guess the original pressing of this (1966, on Philles, only a handful
of records pressed, no covers pressed at all - to my knowledge) is supposedly worth a small fortune.
Bill Fick 27th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Smothers Brothers - Play It Straight (1966) | They "play it straight" until the last track on Side 2.
Bill Fick 27th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumCharlie Rich - Behind Closed Doors (1973) | Also released in Quadrophonic.
Bill Fick 22nd Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumEdward R. Murrow And Fred W. Friendly - I Can Hear It Now (1948) | I have 3 volumes of this series. Was that all that were made?
Bill Fick 20th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - "Yesterday"...And Today (1966) | Yes, I own it, but obviously not with this cover (I wish!)... I see that this cover is still in the shrink-wrap. One of the "Livingston Butchers", perhaps?
Bill Fick 20th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - She's The Most / Itsy Witsy Bitsy Me (1956) | Issued by Capitol Records? Looks like almost all Capitol artists to me.
Bill Fick 20th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (1966) | Listening to this LP in duophonic is like getting ear cancer... Mono all the way for this one!!!
Bill Fick 20th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBert Kaempfert And His Orchestra - A Swingin' Safari (1966) | This was released in the US on Decca, titled "That Happy Feeling" with different cover art.
Bill Fick 19th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Zacherle - Monster Mash Featuring John Zacherle (1962) | This came out when I was a little boy, & just the cover alone scared the living hell out of me...
Bill Fick 19th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Smothers Brothers - It Must Have Been Something I Said! (1964) | I believe the original issue date was 1965...
Bill Fick 17th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul Simon - The Paul Simon Song Book (1965) | Only have this on a CD-R (with an alternate take of " A Church Is Burning" & the 45 take of "I Am A Rock" as bonus tracks), but I think it's a great album.
Bill Fick 13th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Decca Tapes (2013) | To Trainman: THIS is the album of the 15-song audition tape made for Decca on 1/1/62, not the "First Movement" album. This was originally released years ago (with the same front/back covers) on the Circuit label. On that issue, the sound quality was good, but all the songs ran slightly too fast. I don't know if that's been corrected on this release. I also don't know if this is an actual legit issue or not, maybe someone can clarify...
Bill Fick 12th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumGlen Campbell - A Satisfied Mind (1968) | Aside from the title track, these songs are taken from the LP "Big Bluegrass Special" by Glen & The Green River Boys, Capitol T-1810, from 1962.
Bill Fick 12th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Scott - What Am I Living For (1960) | I didn't know myself originally that all of Jack's early material wound up in one bundle, as far as ownership. When Capitol first came out with their Collector's Series on CD in the early '90s, I passed on Jack's volume, thinking that the earlier songs were re-recordings. I was wrong. I love Jack's early stuff. With the sparse instrumentation & low voice, he reminded me of a more rock & roll version of Johnny Cash. Sadly overlooked nowadays...
Bill Fick 11th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Songs, Pictures And Stories Of The Fabulous Beatles (1964) | For anyone who's not familiar with all the twists & turns in the Beatles/Vee-Jay story, every time they come across a legit copy of this LP, they think that they have a mis-matched set, where the record has one title & catalog #, & the cover has another.
For any Beatles fans just starting to get into collecting the Vee-Jay stuff, please be careful. This stuff has been counterfeited for almost as long as Vee-Jay has been out of business. The earliest counterfeits are almost as old as the originals. There's a number of reputable publications that explain the Beatles/Vee-Jay story. Familiarize yourself with them before you go out spending all kinds of money on rare (or "rare") records. Don't get burned.
Bill Fick 11th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - First Movement (1982) | No, these are the 1961 Hamburg recordings. All are w/Tony Sheridan on lead vocals, except track A1, which is instrumental.
Bill Fick 11th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Scott - What Am I Living For (1960) | It's legit, issued as Jack was switching labels. Once he got to Capitol, EMI wound up owning all of his recordings from the very beginning anyway, ABC-Paramount, Carlton (& Guaranteed), Top Rank & Capitol.
Bill Fick 11th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJack Scott - Burning Bridges | With the ST-8 prefix, this would be a Capitol Record Club issue.
Bill Fick 11th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBill Haley And The Comets - Rock With Bill Haley And The Comets (1958) | This was released on 3 different labels, Somerset, Trans-World & Essex. All 3 covers are identical except for the label names.
Bill Fick 8th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Jimi Hendrix Experience - Smash Hits (1976) | I'd have to agree with you. Jimi Hendrix is an artist whose music has benefited greatly from the age of digital re-mastering.
Bill Fick 7th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumJonathan Edwards [Paul Weston] - The Piano Artistry Of Jonathan Edwards (1957) | That's sure what it looks like to me...

Bill Fick 6th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Everly Brothers - The Fabulous Style Of The Everly Brothers (1960) | Only part of this LP is in true stereo. The rest are earlier mono-only tracks electronically re-processed.
Bill Fick 6th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Million Dollar Quartet - The Complete Million Dollar Session (1987) | Not actually "complete", but about 95% of what is currently known to exist of the session is here. Fairly recently, this was re-issued on CD with a few extra minutes added. Rumor has it that one more reel of tape was used (in addition to what is presented here), but has not yet been found. Supposedly, this "lost" reel contains all 4 members of the "quartet", including Johnny Cash, but this will remain unsubstantiated until found.
Jack Clement has stated that at least 3 reels of tape were used, but only 2 have been found as of this writing. Both Johnny Cash and the original newspaper article in the Memphis Press-Scimitar have named songs that were sung that day that have yet to be found...
Prior to becoming a huge financial success, Sam Phillips tended to try & save money by erasing & re-using tape from sessions that he was not going to master any records from, so it's a distinct possibility that the "lost" songs may be lost forever, much like the majority of the out-takes from Presley's Sun sessions...
Bill Fick 6th Aug 2014 | | Vinyl AlbumBob Dylan - Bob Dylan (1962) | First pressing label was the black/red "6-eye" label, very hard to find on that label. Columbia was on the process of changing to the red "2-eye" label at the time.
