The Idle Race - The Birthday Party (1989)
I think we're into that territory, much discussed on 45cat, where records for release in the UK are pressed at various plants in Europe

Various Artists - Private Pleasures (1978)
Should the artists Robert Johnson and Robert Johnson [Memphis] perhaps be transposed? Although we have no Side 2 image here, this RJ sounds to be British rather than Tennesseean, and maybe the same RJ as in Shusha • Maddy Prior • Melanie Harrold • John Kirkpatrick • Robert Johnson • Sydney Carter

The Nice - The Thoughts Of Emerlist Davjack (1968)
The sleeve front is 'glossed' with a matt-finish over the band photo and the text-logo

Roy Harper - Flat Baroque And Berserk (1970)
In his sleeve notes Harper says "(I played) electric guitar on Hells Angels (and) was accompanied by three very dear friends whose names I cannot give because they belong to another label"

They were Keith Emerson, Brian Davison and Lee Jackson who at the time were three-piece The Nice

Talk Talk - It's My Life (1984)
Such A Shame had little airplay in the UK so thanks for the video.
The book The Dice Man inspired the song but the band imbue it with such a sense of tragedy that you can hardly expect them to perform it in a video without parody. I wonder how they performed their material at live venues.
btw, The Somers Arms which briefly appears seems to have been in Battersea, now demolished for the redevelopment of Rochelle Close

Vocal credits on the sleeve for the standout track go to 'Big' Brian Belshaw alone

Martin Carthy - Martin Carthy With Dave Swarbrick (1977)
The cover illustration shows the cover of the original release but with the Fontana logo airbrushed out

Carthy had established his distinctive style by the time of this 1965 release; Ian Campbell describes the style in his sleevenotes:
"His interest in the art of accompaniment is known and respected throughout the world of folk music... In the songs he sings the words are given prime importance, his phrasing controlled in the only sensible way, by the meaning of the words and never by the rhythm of the guitar"

Note the inclusion of Carthy's adaptation of Scarborough Fair, which was picked up by Paul Simon to become an international hit for Simon and Garfunkel

The collection includes jolly Folk yarns, ballads and tragic tales, but if you want the truly poignant hear The Wind That Shakes The Barley

Michael Omartian - White Horse
Omartian and his wife Stormie are pursuing a Christian message here, but it is completely subsumed in the music and never 'in your face'

I love the sensuality of the synthesiser bass on Take Me Down

Jerry Lee Lewis / Carl Perkins - Sunstroke! 12 Great Classics Of Country Rock By Jerry Lee Lewis And Carl Perkins (1966)
Clearly 'booger' which Wiktionary defines as "A thing; especially a problematic or difficult thing" (etym related to boggart), but this would have caused problems for airplay in Britain at the time

Thanks for that information Tony, and for adding the record (I can cross that off my 'to do' list ;-)

Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated - At The Cavern (1964)
In 1964; "The Cavern has launched more name groups than any other club in Britain" including - you guessed it - "Gerry And The Pacemakers, The Merseybeats and The Big Three"

Mike Raven is fondly remembered by many members of the 45cat community and it is good to see this instance of his work. The promotional leaflet mentions a 'series' which he was to have put together, and it will be interesting to see if any more of these show up here.
I don't know what the Embassy NR- series was for, but we have a few later NR- releases here already.
Mike Raven had an interesting career, of which his Pirate Radio work was only a small part - see Wikipedia

Oh what fun we will have trying to recognise all those 'guests' - from Buddy Holly to Jimmy Savile.
I look forward to seeing the artwork for the original UK release of Birthday Party
