Ditty Wa Ditty was a gently ribald story first(?) told by ragtime guitarist Blind Blake

It would be nice to see Blake's version appear on 78World, meanwhile here's a YouTube video

Juke Jules SUBS 6th Dec 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumSheila Chandra - The Struggle (1985) | I like her ethos of respecting her traditions while moving forward, and I am reminded of another artist Bishi who works in a similar way though her music is more Anglo-centric

Juke Jules SUBS 6th Dec 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumSheila Chandra - The Struggle (1985) | I agree that the drum-machine is over-prominent on Strange Minaret in particular. The title track is more interesting, with a stronger Indian component, and Martin Smith is interesting on bass throughout

Juke Jules SUBS 27th Nov 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumNina Simone - Nina Simone In Concert (1964) | From the notes submitted by cussincarryinon02:
First charted in BB's Top LP's on September 19, 1964 (# 142), highest position #102 in mid-November.
From JET Magazine, August 13, 1964, p. 48:
"Singer Nina Simone and her boss LP, Nina Simone In Concert. But after it gets off a few innocent numbers, she really warms things up with the tune, Mississippi Goddam, which begins: 'Alabama's got me so upset; Tennessee made me lose my rest; and everybody knows about Mississippi Goddam.' And Nina says she means every word of it, too."
From Negro Digest, July 1965, p. 15:
"(...). On Nina Simone in Concert, her Philips album (stereo), she seems to have the right mood, but maybe her material is off-beat. There're 'I Loves You, Porgy,' and 'Plain Gold Ring,', two numbers on which the lady can scarcely go wrong, but the introduction of what can only be called 'militant soul music' comes as a shock. Really, with Mississippi and Alabama boiling the blood every headline, we hardly need to be inflamed when we relax with a Scotch and Miss Simone. But one-half of the album deals with subjects like 'Mississippi Goddam,', 'Old Jim Crow' and 'Go Limp.' Fine, for civil rights-and we're all for civil rights, you bet!-but after a hard day's struggle, we like to have Nina soothe us (...)".
