mister_tmg 24th Jul 2024 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Inman - Are You Being Served Sir? (1975) | Thank you Phil. I couldn’t find anything when I looked in the newspaper archives online. Pages 38-39 in that link has the advert for this album. 28 November may just refer to the Vic Lewis album? But November seems a good bet for the other releases listed.

mister_tmg 18th Nov 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumPetula Clark - Don't Give Up · American Boys (1968) | No, I don't own the album, nor have I seen a physical copy. I probably just transcribed it from an eBay listing or similar, so Mike is more reliable if he owns it.

mister_tmg 8th Sep 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVera Lynn - Vera Lynn Concert (1955) | Thanks for confirming that. It seems that the American issue of the LP on London LL3294 may have had "Wishing" on it, or it may be on another LP. However, having a listen, I can hear the melody of "Wishing" in the background as that medley ends, so I suppose it is there, but it was obviously intended as a whole track, unless it's a mistake on the sleeve. Maybe Vera did sing it at that concert and it was edited out.

mister_tmg 10th Mar 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumPetula Clark - Uptown With Petula Clark (1965) | Most of these tracks were originally released in mono, and I doubt they were recorded on multitrack. So if they are stereo here, they are probably rechannelled. From memory: A3, A4, A5, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 were only issued in mono and most predate the stereo era.

Discography
Different cover though so it seems to be unique.

mister_tmg 8th Mar 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Tribute To Michael Holliday (1964) | A different audience I think - although it does have two Lennon-McCartney tracks!
|
mister_tmg 16th Feb 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Tribute To Michael Holliday (1964) | Thanks - I also saw it listed in an EMI catalogue as mono only. Interesting that EMI weren’t issuing everything in both mono and stereo. I would think the quality of that track was good, as the tapes would still survive. Failing that, a good pressing of the LP sounds fine. It’s not commonly found, so perhaps it wasn’t a big seller.

mister_tmg 26th Jan 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The Big Wheels Of Motown (1978) | Interesting that the labels state "Stereo": 'Jimmy Mack' is usually re-issued in mono. The original Martha Reeves (stereo) LP "Watchout" has a different version to that which was on the single. I'd assume it's that version included here, unless it's the single version in fake stereo. It runs about ten seconds shorter (2:44 rather than 2:53). In 2005, there was an "Extended Stereo Mix" released on CD (3:10), and in 2013, "50th Anniversary - The Singles Collection 1962-1972" created a new stereo mix of the single version (3:07).
There seems to be some demand for this album to be re-issued on CD. My mum had it for years. I suppose you can recreate it by finding the tracks elsewhere.

mister_tmg 30th Sep 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPetula Clark - The English Sound (1967) | Thanks for the review. Can you tell if the Petula tracks are re-channelled stereo?
|
mister_tmg 27th Sep 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Tribute To Michael Holliday (1964) | I'm pretty sure this was only issued in Mono. The concert was staged to raise funds for the then-recently departed Michael Holliday's son Michael. I wonder if the LP royalties went to him, as it doesn't say. The tracks by Alma Cogan and Dorothy Squires have been re-issued on CD, but sadly the whole album hasn't.

mister_tmg 14th Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPetula Clark - You Are My Lucky Star (1957) | True, but it's a variation on the original album, so it can be linked - that's what I was lead to believe from the forums here.

mister_tmg 12th Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPetula Clark - You Are My Lucky Star (1957) | Because it's a reissue? The Beatles LP reissues are linked to their originals.

mister_tmg 6th Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumKathy Kirby - My Thanks To You (1968) | B5: Always True To You In My Fashion
It's always struck me that Kathy is singing this to her partner and manager Bert Ambrose. Quite poignant given the nature of their relationship.

mister_tmg 3rd Apr 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumPetula Clark - Os Grandes Sucessos De Petula Clark (1989) | I think they've got the composer of "With All My Heart" mixed up with the one for the Dorothy Squires recording of the same title.
