Magic Marmalade 27th Jan 2015		It's all there! At the very least we've furnished enough spurious information for people to write several more new books about the great Beatles conspiracy... so we are providing a service that way, offering fresh stimulus to an otherwise exhausted industry. And they can send my royalty cheque to... Also, the wording on the back cover "Abbey Road", is of course (or was) the actual genuine street sign for the road, but the "Beatles" heading was obviously added for this photo... strange then, that the old crack in the wall running from top to bottom should actually appear in the "S" of the recently added "Beatles", this can only have been done purposefully, indicating the elimination of the plural. (Mod. edit)



TopPopper 27th Jan 2015		The studio is on the left as we look. See the white wall in front of the VW Beetle? That's the wall outside the studio, and it has a gate at either end for cars to enter the forecourt.



Magic Marmalade 27th Jan 2015		Was it a spontaneous decision to make a photo like this the album cover R.C? Clearly not as much planning and "creating" involved as the Sgt. Pepper cover, so did they just say: "We need a cover... let's just pop outside and get a snap or two"?

Magic Marmalade 27th Jan 2015		The studios are immediately to the left of this picture, so they are walking away from it. If you were to "pan" left, you'd see the Abbey Road Studios sign right next to the path the zebra crossing comes from... you can walk in a straight line straight out of the studio and across the crossing. The studios have a little "garden" area n front, then there they are, looking over the crossing. To the right is another road meeting this one at an acute angle, and at it's point, if you were to pan right about 140 degrees, ther's another zebra crossing to a little traffic island with a memorial on it to Oswald somebody (an artist from the 19th- early 20th century, whose name I forget now. If you can, go to Google maps, type: Abbey Road Studios, and then click the Street View option, and have a mosey around (this is how I locate interesting little second hand shops and Charity shop hot-spots!)

TopPopper 26th Jan 2015		I'd like to see a photographer try this nowadays. I've been there a few times, and the traffic is relentless, and regular drivers from the area, such as taxi drivers, are evidently sick to death of people crossing all day to have their photos taken, because of course, it makes them have to stop every time. I can imagine this photo session nowadays would be unworkable without closing the road - you really would have a mile-long tail-back both behind, and of course in front of the camera. On a completely unrelated note - I'm surprised we haven't yet had a print with Paul's cigarette airbrushed out!

Ringo's next, dressed like he's heading for a lunch engagement(leather shoes - murder on the feet on a hot day), George brings up the rear, dressed in denim and - are they suede shoes? And Paul, dressed ever-so-casually and going bare-foot, just as well there's no broken glass on the road!

But seriously, there was tension throughout on the Let It Be sessions, no doubt exacerbated by the presence of John Lennon's "new-found friend", whom I won't name for legal reasons but we all know who that person was, and there are many who hold that person responsible for the break-up of The Beatles. If you have the 1982 doco, The Compleat Beatles(which, I think is now on DVD officially, my DVD has been made from a VHS tape), you'll see that Paul wasn't completely blameless either. Basically they were all getting on each other's "wick". Paul admitted to a bit of pushiness in the doco "George Harrison - Living In The Material World" aired on SBS-TV here in Australia last Sunday(25-1-2015).

Ringo might've been wondering what all the fuss was about... didn't he leave early 'cause he didn't like the food? And your last thought: "Of course, it's all preposterous. Or is it?..." Weeeell! As I said, I bet Paul McCartney, if he thinks back on it at all, would possibly laugh himself silly these days.

TopPopper 26th Jan 2015		Yes, but the Beatles were into Eastern mysticism at the time, and some schools of thought consider you to be nine months old when you are born. As he was born in June 1942, he'd have been 9 months + 27 years and 3 months when Abbey Road was released -- in other words, he'd have just turned 28. Of course, it's all preposterous. Or is it?...



Neil Forbes 26th Jan 2015		A doco about The Beatles in Australia was shown on New Years Day by ABC-TV(Australia) which mentioned that Paul McCartney celebrated his 22nd birthday while the "fab four" were in Sydney during their 1964 tour of Australia and New Zealand. This sits at odds with the claim about the rego plate number on the VW seen on the front cover of this album. If anyone remembers the publicity stunt(a joke that got carried too far) of Paul McCartney "dying" in 1966 or 1967. The Magical Mystery Tour had a photo of Paul with the Sword of Damaclese(guessing spelling) suspended above him, and the Abbey Road cover has him bare-foot. The VW's registration plate read "28 IF", meaning Paul would've been 28 if he had lived. Well actually, no. Doing the math, Paul was 27 in 1969 when Abbey Road was first issued, and 26 when the group started work on the album in 1968 after all-but abandoning the "Let It Be" project. I'd imagine Paul would be having a right old laugh about it all these years later.
