There were positively hundreds of 10" LPs issued in the UK between 1953 and 1958. As you say, Strawberry_Lynn, many were in the classical genre but also many, many Jazz titles. Despite not having researched the numbers, I'd say 12" LPs during the '53 and `56 period were by far in the minority by comparison.

This one was an Xmas `57 gift for Mother and her Sister (wish I still had the photo of them sitting on a sofa and holding it up.). Shame it wasn't 'Best of Elvis' though as 'Loving you' is all over the place.

I disagree. During the 1950's record companies seem to have issued classical music on 12" LP's and pop music on 10" LP's.

Elvis Presley seems to have gone some way in ending that trend

10 inch vinyl albums were a very rare thing indeed, even in the 1950's. The standard format of a vinyl LP was 12" and at the time of this particular release (1957) there were three types of record being manufactured :

1. The 45 rpm 7" vinyl single and Extended Player
2. The 78 rpm 10" shellac single
3. The 33 rpm 12" vinyl LP.

The US version of this album was released in the standard 12" format with twelve tracks, so the 10" eight track UK version is somewhat unique and quite collectable.

Added RCA Victor label (1962 Re-issue). The only other label variation that exists for this release.

This 10" album was available through until mid 1965, the 8 tracks from this plus an additional four were released as Flaming Star & Summer Kisses RD7723 in September 1965.
It wasn't until October 1977 that we got the 12" album of "Loving You" in the UK. Although plenty of European copies of the 12" album made it to these shores before then.

A German 12 " album version containing 12 tracks has surfaced elsewhere on this site but seems to be available in Stereo only. The Cat No. is RCA Victor LSP1515 and this is the identical Cat. No. to the USA stereo release. The year of release is claimed to be 1957 but I have my doubts as to whether that is accurate.
