Rock On - Record Bag
The new Rock On record shop, not in London but in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
Record bag is a reworked version of the one they used during the latter days of when they were based in Camden, London.

First Blood (1982)
Now renamed as "Rambo:First Blood" on 4K discs, while the second in the series is now called "Rambo:First Blood Part II".

The Singing Ringing Tree - Network
Filmed in a widescreen eye-popping saturated colour palette.
During a trip to Berlin many years back, and while looking for rare DVDs, I discovered that this is just one of at least 2 dozen 'fairytale features' made by the same East German production company (DEFA Stiftung) in 1950s-1970s. I would have bought many of the available DVDs but unfortunately only 3 had an English language option, including The Golden Goose and The Devil's Three Golden Hairs.

Look At Life Volume 8 : People And Places - Network
Volume 8 is the largest in the Look At Life series and rounds up the remaining titles that were not pigeonholed onto the other 7 volumes, (and in that respect is the most varied and, dare I say, most interesting of the series). I do own volumes 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 & 8.

Note that since Network went bust last year all volumes are likely to become sought after collectors items.

Cinema
The Shining (1980)
Note that there are 2 official versions of the film, the USA version at 2hours 26mins, and the trimmed version at 1hour 55mins - cutting out a lot of incidental stuff but losing much of the ominous feel and slow built up of tension.
After Kubrick's death the long version, now referred to as the extended cut, has become widely available on Blu-ray, 4K and some DVDs (I think it was always the version on Region 1 DVDs), and I recommend this as the one to watch.
For artistic reasons Kubrick shot the film full frame, and it is best viewed without any matting. Unfortunately recent transfers present the film 1:85 (or wider) for a more 'cinematic look'.

Captain Beefheart And The Magic Band - Clear Spot
Review
Probably the most perfectly realised Captain Beefheart LP, and the one that is the most accessible. Definitely the starting point that I recommend for anyone interested in discovering the great man.
The LP pretty much covers his wide range of styles incorporating elements of blues, rock, ballad, and of course his signature Beefheartian style. Every track is a winner and the LP includes the fabulous Big-Eyed Beans From Venus which is just about everyone's favourite song, and the difficult Golden Birdies which will help you decide if you really do want to venture onto Trout Mask Replica.

Magazine - Secondhand Daylight
Pressing fault on most of the early UK pressings. It is hardly noticeable coming right at the end of song 'Cut-Out Shapes' when he repeats the earlier lyric "I just get numb when you're hard to find", it instead comes out as "I just get numb wh_find".
My faulty pressing has matrix V2121 $ A 1, (where the $ is actually a B overwritten with A and then scribbled out).

The Motors - Approved By The Motors
Note that on the coloured vinyl pressing the labels utilise a slightly different blue and the ladies are flesh coloured.
Seems there were all sorts of old label designs being used up on pressings around 1978 before Virgin standardised with green & red.

Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
Nice to see the LP sleeve with the spot sticker indicating its on coloured vinyl.
SPOTS 006 presumably to identify the sticker, rather like the spot sticker on the Sex Pistols LP (SPOTS 001), and SPOTS 007 for the first PiL LP.

Seventh Wave - Things To Come
Band members used to be in the prog rock group Second Hand, and this LP has prog & classical elements. Quite OK, though doesn't reach the freakout heights of Second Hand.

The LP that they did after this one is very different, including funky bits.

My Bloody Valentine - Glider, Official
MBV were selling this T-shirt at the end of 1991 and I saw them live at the Town & Country Club in December 1991. However because of a problem with commission the band decided that they were not going to sell any merchandise inside of the venue, and instead had people giving out handbills outside.
(see handbill here)
So I bought the T-shirt via mail order.

If you did want a T-shirt on that night there were plenty of cowboys selling counterfeits along the pavement outside (all with typically terrible 'tour date' designs).

Cranes - Statue With Alphabet Surround
Circa 1990-92, I think. Bought at one of their early London gigs, maybe at the Powerhouse. I vividly recall they had a screen projection with images of old mechanical clocks, scrolling text, and such.

Flinch - Sliver/glitter 'Fake' Design
Rare T-shirt from Flinch, which I think I bought at their Water Rats gig 8 July 1995.
In reference to the band's 'Faking' single, the design is probably a rip-off, guessing Adidas. However the T-shirt is 100% genuine Flinch.
Printing on front & back, I did not wear it much, the glitter quite readily drops off.

Velvet Underground - Official Tour 1993 Reunion
Bought at their Wembley gig 6 June 1993.
I think there were just 2 designs to chose from, the usual large Warhol banana, and this one, and in 2 colours white or black.
Despite looking like a pirate T-shirt (tour dates on the back), this is the genuine official article.

Stereolab - 'Cliff' Design
I bought this T-shirt either at their Russell Arms (Mornington Crescent) gig 09 June 1992, or their Union Tavern (Camberwell) gig 09 July 1992.
I did not particularly like the bright red colour so I tie-dyed it with a darker blood red or purple dye,
Stereolab did had some fairly awful colours for their T-shirts, guessing that they bought the shirts cheaply, certainly cheapo quality, thin cotton, the logo looks like it is silk-screened.
Yes, cheapo quality, hence why it is all out of shape.

CD Album
Mark Boone - The Pop Narcotic
This text taken from an ebay listing:
"The album 'The Pop Narcotic' is unique. It was recorded on an analog eight track in my bedroom while attending college. It was my first time attempting to perform all the instruments and vocals on an album. Brave for me since I was self taught and knew nothing (or so I thought). I had next to no equipment. One acoustic guitar, one electric guitar, one bass, one keyboard, one microphone. I didn't have a stand for the microphone so I literally was holding my guitar up to a mic on a desk. I didn't have the enough tracks to do many vocal takes, so I only had one chance to sing the vocals. I had no monitors only headphones. The fact that these songs even exist defies the odds. These songs went on to win awards and gain airplay internationally. We did get the artistic support of Thomas Dolby and author Ken Follet. I hope you enjoy some of this. It was a huge undertaking and challenge for me. Mark Boone."

The album is not on Bandcamp nor YouTube, you can hear it on Spotify. It has a mixture of styles, alt rock, soft rock, acoustic, even modern classical, sometimes the vocals remind me of David Bowie. Worth checking out.

Eurotrash - Network
This is the one I know you have all been waiting for, (c'mon admit it!).
But you'd better be quick because, last time I looked, the publishers Network have gone bust and copies are now getting scarce.
Check ebay for inflated prices, £300+ anyone?.

...I have just noticed that they have edited some of the content for "contractual reasons", hopefully this is to cut out some of the tiresome minor celebrities who occasionally got interviewed, and not any of the hilarious stuff.

It is likely that the Hey Bulldog segment is in all recent worldwide blu-rays, whereas the 'Beatles to battle' segment found on this VHS will be chopped.

Fröhliche Eiszeit - Fröhliche Eiszeit
Finally got my hands on a copy of this LP, though the Discogs seller was wildly optimistic at giving a 'near mint / very good+' grading, being that the vinyl was dirty and has lots of light scratches, while the sleeve has added sellotape and glue to hold it together!

here is a selection of tracks for your enjoyment..

Fröhliche Eiszeit - Im Luftschutzkeller, Im Büro, In Der Fabrik Und Zu Hause.
Fröhliche Eiszeit existed from late 1979 to 1983, and released their recordings on cassette, of which only a tiny quantity seem to exist, they also contributed to at least one rare compilation during that period.

This is a compilation of tracks recorded in various locations, as per the LP title. The quality of the recordings varies from good to rough, some seem to be dubbed off vinyl and other n-generation sources.

The credits appear to be of a not very helpful list, ie 'these people played instruments... these people sang... these people wrote the lyrics...".

I guess we are lucky to finally have these recordings on vinyl, even though only 300 copies were pressed.

Note that there is an earlier compilation LP of different songs, though again only 300 copies were pressed.

Book
B. George - International Discography Of The New Wave Volume ll 1982 / 83
When this book came out it took me a while to commit to buying it, as it cost the equivalent of 3 or 4 LPs, but after constantly returning to the bookshop to browse I realised that I just had to buy it.
At home I proceeded to read it cover to cover and soak up all the info within, wildly imagining how wonderful a record by say Beatles Costello would sound, and equally disappointed at the realisation that such wonders were unlikely to ever come my way. (little did I know what the future would bring).
Because early punk/new wave was becoming unfashionable at the time of the book's release, I was able to pick up a lot of obscure 7"s secondhand for pennies and I always had the book handy to check what I was buying. Unfortunately in my reckless youth I also discarded or sold on many records that I felt didn't come up to scratch, aIso adding my own briefly disparaging notes below the artist's book entry - many of which I simply cannot comprehend these days (though it does give me a laugh at how unforgiving I was).
In the 2000s I came across a mint copy of the book at a record fair for something like £5, regrettably I did not purchase it, my own copy is rather dog-eared and the spine is worn. These days I believe the book sells for a lot more, that is if you can actually find a copy.

Book
B. George - International Discography Of The New Wave Volume ll 1982 / 83
Review
Very comprehensive, though attracted later criticism for including pre-release or proposed entries that were subsequently shelved. A lot of the information was apparently sourced from John Peel's record collection, so maybe some of the rumoured-to-exist records actually do exist in some form.
The entries are for worldwide releases, though the majority are from English speaking countries. Honorary mentions are given to most of the important proto-punk bands. Each page has unique doodles/art to fill in blank spaces and maybe helps to take the strain off your eyes. Every so often you get a page crammed with pics of record sleeves.

If I can remember correctly volume 1 of this book was fairly slimline and had a red cover (all entries duplicated in this volume 2).

I am unsure about the number of copies produced but it will be in the low numbers, maybe 100.
The music on this release is more techno influenced.
