Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | TVThe Benny Hill Show (1955 - 1989) | @23Skiddoo and RC, What I was getting at is when you start a format at one station, like The Mike Walsh Show as an example, which, in Sydney at least(through its early years up to 1975) was live to air, but delayed when carried by any regional station which carried it, by anything up to a week or more after the original broadcast, then, after perhaps, a dispute between Walsh, the company producing the show(Screen Gems[Australia] Ltd.) and the station, TEN-Sydney, in which studios the show was made, up to 1975, the dispute leads to a falling-out between the named parties, Walsh, now producing the show himself, takes it to Station TCN-Sydney from 1976 on to 1984, that's the point at which the "counter is reset to zero", even though the format hadn't changed, the studios in which it was made have changed. It's not just the production company "packaging" the show, the station has a stake in the show as well, thus, different station = different show! Same with Benny Hill, he used BBC facilities from 1955 to 1968, then used the facilities of Thames TV from 1969 to 1984 to produce his shows. With shows like "Bionic Woman" or "M*A*S*H", these are pre-packaged shows that are produced independently of any broadcast station, they use no TV station facilities(or if they do, it's sparingly at most) The shows are produced in a company's(like Paramount's or Columbia Pictures) own back-lot, the finished product is then offered up to the stations to accept or reject, the stations had little or no part in the production, so the count of episodes continue regardless of which network is screening it, CBS, NBC, ABC, A & E, Fox, whichever!
|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Get Dancin' | Yeah, The Australian label is a bit simpler, though I'd prefer to have seen them group all publishing credits up on the left side of the label, using full company names, hypothetical example:
1,3,8,9: J. Albert & Son Ltd.
2,6,7: E.H. Morris & Co. Ltd. etc instead of just Albert, Morris, etc. But the LAST thing I'd want to see is those oh-so-ugly trademark "stamps".
|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThree Dog Night - Harmony | I've got it on an American-issue Dunhill 45, in stereo too! I don't think EMI issued it in stereo here in Australia. In fact, I'm sure the Aussie issue was only mono.
|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Get Dancin' | I note one Australian-sourced track in this set, it's at B5, Well, Gary Shearston would have certainly got a Kick out of that!
|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Get Dancin' | The label is definitely not K-Tel(UK)'s best effort!, Quite "Fugly"(that's Effin' Ugly) really!

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Essential Beatles | @RC, I knew it was 1976 but was it one month, two, three, four, more? Toward the end of 1976 perhaps? Doesn't really matter now. If I want to, I can always chase up those stereo mixes of the affected tracks at some later date, and reconstruct my own MMT album on CD, but that'll be something for a future project.
|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Essential Beatles | @Jordansongs, I'm not sure exactly when EMI(Australia) issued the LP of MMT, though it couldn't have been all that long after the UK issue. Prior to this there was only the 2-disc 45rpm EP with each record carrying two songs on one side, one on the other, first in Mono, then in Stereo as MMT-1 then SMMT-1 for both markets(I have Aussie pressings in a British cover). Then I came across the LP, only ever saw American issues of the album anywhere I saw it. I had not yet seen or held a British or Australian issue of MMT on LP., Likely I never will do... they're scarce as hen's teeth!
|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThree Dog Night - Seven Separate Fools | Whilst searching for another LP, I came across my copy of this(American issue, by the way), and looked inside for those picture cards. Alas, they were missing from my copy. I wasn't even aware of the existence of these cards until I saw this website and I had the album since 1973(it was roughly a year old when I bought it). so, I never bothered to look. It never occurred to me there'd be anything else in the package other than the LP.

|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul McCartney - All The Best! | I recently "reconstructed" a version of "Wings Greatest" from other sources. particularly the 2 CD copilation, "Wingspan" When it came to the track "With A Little Luck", this album had the full-length version at 5 minutes and 45 seconds, while the version appearing on that 2-CD compilation, clocked in at just over 4 minutes. So, naturally I used the version from this album, where all the other content came from that other CD compilation. Always good to have alternate sources when trying to reconstruct albums, especially if you're doing a rework of a favourite LP and one or more of the tracks "skip", an extra LP copy will fill the gaps.
|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Essential Beatles | @RC, that's interesting. Why use a stereo mix of All You Need Is Love and Penny Lane for TVSS-8(LP) and a mono, or "fake" stereo mix of the same songs for TC-TVSS-8(cassette)? That makes no sense. Why would EMI do that? Surely the cassette should carry exactly the same content as the LP!

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul McCartney - All The Best! | @RC, see my comment of 14th March before you rush out to get this, you may save yourself some disappointment.
|
Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Essential Beatles | @Jordansongs, has the catalogue number been changed? My copy of "Magical Mystery Tour" is on a US Capitol-issued Apple record. The last two cuts on Side B were Baby You're A Rich Man and All You Need Is Love, both mixed back to a "fake" stereo(Bass in one channel, treble in the other, and not at all convincing). So obviously the new "improved" MMT release having these two songs restored to full stereo is a welcome advent.

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 25 Rockin' & Rollin' Greats | Yep, that certainly can cause some difficulty! (in response to RC's "Yeah especially if your dyslectic")

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 25 Rockin' & Rollin' Greats | One thing about the earlier CBS Special Products "Pop" albums with the Black & Yellow labels, the "CBS Special Products" printed in white against a yellow background made it hard to see the name. Country Music compilations still under the CBS Special Products heading, were in colours other than yellow and the contrast made it easier to see that heading.
P.S., RC, did you see the label for 20 Electrifying Hits Vol.2? That's where the K-Tel trademark made its first appearance on Australian issued product.

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Essential Beatles | RC, I know how to put the WALHFMF track together, a little Sound Forge magic will help there. It's the Baby You're A Rich Man track I'd like to know about... As the late Tex Morton used to scream out on our tellies way back when... "Where (did) Ya Get It?"

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Essential Beatles | ReviewI've had two copies of this LP over the years. The first bought when it was first issued, the second as a replacement many years later. The rear image shows the ageing effects of each Beatle with seven columns showing, roughly when each song was issued in a year. The compilation falls down only in respect of using mono mixes of Baby You're A Rich Man and (possibly) Penny Lane where full stereo mixes were available for each. Outside that, this was a worthy compilation and served as a good prelude to the(then) yet-to-be-compiled "Red" and "Blue" double albums, Beatles 1962-1966 and Beatles 1967-1970 respectively. A quick check of what I wrote some months back led me to delete a portion of this review where I said only a mono mix of All You Need Is Love was used. Those early remarks of mine contradicted this and thus, the remark required deletion.... Oops!

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Essential Beatles | RC you lucky devil! You have a stereo mix of ....Rich Man From which album did you source that gem? I note we now have an option of adding a review of the album(or any other album on this site) I might have a crack at it.

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 25 Rockin' & Rollin' Greats | @RC, take a look at the label for 20 Electrifying Hits Vol.2(TA-241). The area where "Majestic Records is, and the copyright warning is, is a blue ring with black border, broken by black sections to left(9 O'clock) and right(3 O'clock) on the label. On the left is the Majestic "Crown" trademark whilst on the right is the K-Tel "button" trademark turned 90 degrees clockwise. The body of the label where the content, catalogue & matrix numbers, AMCO credit and "Majestic Records Present...(in box) are printed, is a pale yellow.

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Essential Beatles | @RC, the reason why B3 is faded in is due to the fact it was originally the second "cut" in the Sgt. Pepper album and the two tracks were "blended" into one with the audio continuing across the interval groove. It was paired like this again on the Beatles 1967-70 set when the tracks opened Record 2, Side 1, and again in the CD(though, on the CD you'd see the track number change from 1 to 2 on the LED display though there'd be no break in the audio). For the Essential Beatles LP, the Sgt. Pepper song was edited out, thus the quick fade-in. I have this LP as well. My only comment is that I would've liked a stereo mix of "Baby You're A Rich Man" used here instead of the mono mix that was used.

Neil Forbes 13th Sep 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - 25 Rockin' & Rollin' Greats | After about mid-1971 the Majestic name, then later K-Tel became more prominent, particularly with the respective trademark for K-Tel replacing the CBS trademark on Australian issues. So no. Anything from Majestic/K-Tel which does not actually the "CBS Special Products" name or the CBS logo should not be linked back, even with this LP carrying that WSR number.

Hawke DID ruin regional TV in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia with that brain-fart of his, called "regional TV market aggregation".
