Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumBrian Hyland - The Legendary Years Of Rock And Roll | Gypsy Woman(1970) was a come-back hit on either MCA or Uni(an MCA offshoot label) for Hyland, by then an adult(his years at ABC-Paramount were as a teenager).

Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumMiddle Of The Road - Acceleration | RC, to be perfectly francis(ha-ha), I've never noticed that vocal line, You'd have to be really straining your ears to hear it!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumBrian Hyland - The Legendary Years Of Rock And Roll | Vidman45, Your guess of year is fairly close. EMI lost the rights to ABC content around that time(they were issuing ABC and ABC/Dunhill stuff on their Probe label, which was an offshoot of Stateside but designed for the ABC and Dunhill lists). The Paramount lists that this LP was made from, were carried here first by W. & G., then Festival but I'm unsure as to when ant to which company Festival sold those rights.

Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Moody Blue | RC, There was an Elvis Presley compilation LP on K-Tel back in the late 1970s(about 1978 or 1979, How RCA consented to it is a mystery to me, Presley's backlist is as big a cash cow to RCA as that of The Beatles to EMI) but that's not the album I have Moody Blue on(mainly because it wasn't on that set)... It's a various Artists LP that I'll upload soon - watch for it!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Love Me Do | Licenced BY Stargrove...? Shouln't that be Licenced TO Stargrove from EMI(The Gramophone Co.) Hayes Middlesex England? And I'm BLOODY sure EMI WOULD NOT have done so! The Beatles backlists are EMI's biggest cash cow! They'd be damned if they'd licence such precious stuff to some dinky little tin-pot operation in Canada's backblocks!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Moody Blue | You need to clear your....I SAID YOU NEED TO CLEAR YOUR EARS OUT, RC!, I can understand what he's singing just fine(got the track on a K-Tel Country Music LP).
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumMiddle Of The Road - Acceleration | In reference to the Electric Coconut track on "Popcorn"/"Go Moog" Track A2, Here is the original version by Middle Of The Road at Track B3 on this album.
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | Yeah, RC, that's how I got my copy before I came by the LP - and yes, the same harsh edgy sound quality - and it wasn't even Dolby-processed!(ugh!) Don't know where my cassette got to, though. I'll stumble across it by chance one day, maybe!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumHere And Now Band - Chart Busters Volume 5 | RC, you might be closer than you think to "hitting The Nail On The Head(ouch)"! This is exactly the sort of thing Telmak WOULD issue here! Not to say they actually did so, y'all understand!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Ticker Tape | What was "Mouldy Old Dough" in 1972 would be out-of-date penicillin by now(ha-ha)! And Lieutenant Pigeon? He was demoted to Corporal(awwww!).
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Ticker Tape | RC, I'll explain it tis way: Perhaps EMI didn't think Lieutenant Pigeon had enough public interest(beyond novelty level) to warrant putting the "....Kathleen" LP out on Decca as a full-price release in 1974, so they opted to issue the album on Axis as a budget-price album instead. The singles of Mouldy Old Dough and I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen did very well on the charts, but it was the novelty value that carried them. But after heavy radio exposure, that novelty was wearing off and EMI thought they wouldn't recoup their outlay as a full-price LP wouldn't shift enough stock to cover costs. It was probably cheaper for EMI to stick the album on Axis and flog it at newsagents or stores where budget LPs are generally sold, "in the cheap racks"!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Soul Oldies | I was being cautious, Phil! I once bought a cassette issue of an EMI(Australia) Rock & Roll compilation, two cassettes equalling the three LPs. One of the tracks had been a re-recording... from EMI, of all companies! Granted it may only have been one out of 60 tracks, but the thought of EMI doing this even once was disgusting enough! It proved to me that one can't even trust MAJOR labels. And when I bought an RCA issue of Roger Whittaker that had a re-recorded version of Last Farewell, that for me was pretty-much the last straw! That's why I've stopped buying CDs altogether and now only go for older vinyl 45rpm singles and EPs or LPs..
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElektrik Cokernut - Go Moog | Yes, If you're gonna scoff on some popcorn, don't forget to cover it with some Hot Butter! But leave that coconut(cokernut) unplugged! It might be Electric(electrik) but the wiring's unsafe.....Bzzzz-zzzzz-zzzzzttt!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Ticker Tape | RC, if per chance you have "....Kathleen" on a 45rpm, look at the label and see if it has a publishing date, I found it in "The Book" - Top 40 Research Ed.#7(Steve Scanes & Jim Barnes - authors) showing debut at 31 on 4/7/1974 and peaking at #2(Decca Y-10431). So in this case, EMI issued a Decca release, new, as a budget LP rather than as a full-price Decca issue(EMI handled Decca in Australia since the days of 78rpm - for the benefit of readers outside Australia). But this does not always hold that an Axis LP is of the same vintage on release, as the content of the LP. For instance, an LP issued in 1975 could be full of songs from 1960 to 1965. Such is the nature of Axis and other budget labels from EMI or any other company.

Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElektrik Cokernut - Go Moog | I wonder of the spelling of the name might be due to the fact this is a Dutch pressing....Hmmmmm....Nah!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElektrik Cokernut - Go Moog | Is the sound quality on this the same as the Australian Axis issue?
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Ticker Tape | Here it is, folks! I cleaned up the covers as best I could(old album, you see). This one is DEFINATELY from 1974(and I'll bet the moderator is wiping the sweat from his brow and heaving a sigh of relief). Okay TopPopper, do you have a British equivalent to this one?
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | Hey, Moderator, thanks for the corrections - cheers!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElektrik Cokernut - Go Moog | As we're now in the moog...er, mood, I have the second LP ready to go and will upload it as soon as I finish typing this!
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Soul Oldies | If the cover only lists Garnet Mimms and Lee Adndrews as sol acts, it could be that the tracks are NOT original recordings, rather, they're possibly re-recordings done in some tin-pot studio, ten, twenty or thirty years afterwards. Unart should have a solid reputation for authenticity(being the music publishing division of United Artists Records) but if they're getting up to stunts like this, then who can we trust for authentic versions?
Neil Forbes 17th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | Oooo-eeee, chirpy chirpy chee-aaaagggghhhh!(and another one knocked over by the 6.10 bus from Padstow!)
Neil Forbes 17th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | A2, Samson & Delilah, would've been a hit only in Britain for that group which played around amidst all the cars, buses, trucks and such... I warned 'em! I told 'em they'd get run over if they kept playing in the "Middle Of The Road"(ha-ha).
Neil Forbes 17th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | I'll put the next album up during the week, RC! It's called "Ticker Tape" and WAS issued in 1974, of that I'm ABSOLUTELY sure!(did I just hear the moderator heave a sigh of relief?) and what's more it has four original Len Hunter compositions! Keep watching, should be on the site in the next day or two.
Neil Forbes 17th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | RC, you've been digging, I see! Come up with all this info - Good stuff! Intersting too!
Neil Forbes 17th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | And while I recover my sanity(and, I hope, a bit of credibility), I'd say this RC, the Lieutenant Pigeon LP you have, if it's on Axis, may have been issued in 1974 but these Axis LPs are drawn from various periods and are sometimes reissues of albums from some years earlier. The next issue after Lt. P's album may well be a reissue of something that first came out in 1964(hypothetical case).
Neil Forbes 17th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | RC, naughty boy! you weren't paying attention! Jungle Juice is the only track on this album that is NOT a version of anyone else's work! It's an Electric Coconut original but it's the track with the worst sound quality - REALLY harsh and edgy! The Lieutenant Pigeon track covered here is "Mouldy Old Dough" from 1972. The newest tune in this set is B6, "Back Off Boogaloo" originally done by Ringo Starr and I just now realised..... it ISN'T from his 1973 self-titled LP, it's instead on a compilation LP called "Blast From Your Past" Oh I'm such a goose! This Electric Coconut LP IS from 1972 after all! Mod, could you please make that change?
Neil Forbes 17th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumHarry Belafonte - An Evening With Belafonte | The lower-case (e) next to the catalogue number would be a clue to the nature of the recording. As I initially said, this is likely a 10th anniversary commemorative issue.
Neil Forbes 17th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumElectric Coconut - Popcorn And Other Switched-On Smash Hits | Sound quality-wise a harsh, edgy recording! The fixed that problem for their second outing, Ticker Tape(which I'll upload next). Thought this to be a 1972 album for so long, but as I entered the details, that last track on Side B told me otherwise. So, to be safe rather than sorry, I'll identify this as a 1973 issue.
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumOtis Williams And His Charms - 16 Original Greatest Hits | With thanks to 55bluesman, I was able to add the composer credits to coveboy's upload of this album, though two titles on side 2 didn't have composer credits.
Neil Forbes 16th Feb 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumHarry Belafonte - An Evening With Belafonte | This would definitely NOT be a 1961 issue with THAT label design. At its earliest it would be 1969(when the label design was introduced) or a 1970 or 1971 issue, probably the latter as a 10th anniversary commemorative re-issue.
