SeverlyWarpedRecord 17th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMInk Spots - If / A Friend Of Johnny's | Was this the OG ink spots last record? I’ve never seen anything later than this one
SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMVernon Dalhart - The Prisoner's Song / Wreck Of The 97 | Added an earlier pressing of the A side.
It’s weird how on my copy on Victor the prisoners song is the B side. That probably means that apex only pressed this record after the prisoners song took off on whatever radio stations were going in 1925
SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMInk Spots - That's Where I Came In / You Can't See The Sun When You're Crying | I respect the inclusion
SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMLarry Cross - It Can't Be Wrong / My Dream Of To-morrow | Now Voyager is a Bette Davis movie from 1942, so if I had to guess I’d say this record came out in 1942-43, but I could be wrong
SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMEvelyn Knight And The Stardusters - A Little Bird Told Me / Brush Those Tears From Your Eyes | Better picture of the label added :)
SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMInk Spots - That's Where I Came In / You Can't See The Sun When You're Crying | Yeah I agree that this was a pop record in the 40s, but you gotta remember that back then jazz was pop music.
Just personally I’ve never liked how older musicians are labeled as just pop, because no matter what pop music always has a genre to go along with it, because what’s popular always changes
SeverlyWarpedRecord 15th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMInk Spots - That's Where I Came In / You Can't See The Sun When You're Crying | What makes a song ‘jazz’? Because the ink spots are definitely a jazz band, but someone changed the genres to just be pop
SeverlyWarpedRecord 7th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMLita Roza - Hey There / Hernando's Hideaway | These British covers really weren’t even trying to sound different. This records almost identical to Rosemary Clooney’s, the only difference is that clooney was a better singer
SeverlyWarpedRecord 6th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMGeorgia Gibbs - Dance With Me Henry (Wallflower) / Every Road Must Have A Turning | This version is more common
SeverlyWarpedRecord 6th Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMBing Crosby - The Day You Came Along / I Guess It Had To Be That Way | Thanks for uploading the pics. It’s interesting how Brunswick switched to a blue label before they abandoned Canada.
Also am I the only one who’s noticed that stuff that sold well in America didn’t actually sell well in Canada? I know that Crosby definitely got airplay in Canada during the early 30s, but for some reason you never see his records here
SeverlyWarpedRecord 3rd Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMThe King Cole Trio - Capitol Presents The King Cole Trio | This was the first number 1 album ever. Parts 2 and 3 were also number 1 when they were released in the following years
SeverlyWarpedRecord 1st Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMBing Crosby - The Day You Came Along / I Guess It Had To Be That Way | Can someone upload a picture of this record? I haven’t ever seen a Canadian issue of Crosby’s Brunswick records
SeverlyWarpedRecord 1st Jul 2023 | | 78 RPMBing Crosby - Going My Way / Swinging On A Star | This was by far Crosby’s biggest pop hit in Canada
SeverlyWarpedRecord 14th Jun 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumShaun Cassidy - Shaun Cassidy | This came with a huge poster that’s the same as the cover of his album ‘Born late’. I’m not sure if the American copy came with it
SeverlyWarpedRecord 23rd May 2023 | | 78 RPMCliff Richard And The Drifters - Living Doll / Apron Strings | Yeah I know that, but what would it sound like if you did play it on a gramophone?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 22nd May 2023 | | 78 RPMCliff Richard And The Drifters - Living Doll / Apron Strings | Would this record even play on a gramophone? I heard that basses were known to make gramophones skip so they never used them in older jazz, but this record would be on a new level with the electric bass intro
SeverlyWarpedRecord 6th May 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumCliff Richard - The Cliff Richard Souvenir Album | What do you mean promo? The copy that’s uploaded or the entire album?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 20th Mar 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJefferson Airplane - After Bathing At Baxter's | Why does this have a red label? Was Jefferson airplane really considered one of RCAs higher end artists?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 26th Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - "La Barbe À Papa" (Paper Moon) Bande Sonore Originale | What was the point of making this cover in colour? The entire movie is shot on black and white film
SeverlyWarpedRecord 17th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMPerry Como - I Dream Of You (More Than You Dream I Do) / I'm Confessin' (That I Love You) | 3 owners but 0 images? Must be a classic ????
SeverlyWarpedRecord 11th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMJoe Bari And Pat Easton - Vieni Qui (Come To Me) / Fascinating Rhythm | Tony Bennett was on mtv?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 10th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMCab Calloway - Minnie The Moocher (The Ho De Ho Song) / Doin' The Rumba | Did cab Calloways records not sell very well in Canada? I’ve been looking for this record for almost 5 years and I’ve only ever seen 1 record by him. Even Canadian copies of his bigger hits from the 40s never seem to pop up on ebay
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMJoe Bari And Pat Easton - Vieni Qui (Come To Me) / Fascinating Rhythm | Is Tony Bennett really that collectable? Like I love his music and find it fascinating that he’s still alive in 2023, but I never thought of him as an icon with records worth $1000s
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMJoe Bari And Pat Easton - Vieni Qui (Come To Me) / Fascinating Rhythm | The Simon in the writing credits is George T Simon, who was the drummer in Glenn Miller’s band. He actually mentioned this record in his book ‘Simon Says’, during an interview with Tony Bennett. Apparently both of them didn’t like the record and thought someone else should have sung it.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 7th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMRudy Vallée And His Connecticut Yankees - Whiffenpoof Song / Mad Dogs And Englishmen | My copies from the late 1940s. This record probably was released on all 3 Bluebird labels, with first pressings being the blue and white label, and second being the normal Bluebird.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 1st Feb 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumRay Anthony - The Young Man With The Horn | Did Ray Anthony ever get in legal trouble from Columbia or the people who made the ‘young man with a horn’ movie? I mean the album cover even looks like some of the movies posters
SeverlyWarpedRecord 30th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumStan Kenton And His Orchestra - Kenton In Hi-Fi | How many of these Capitol ‘in hi-fi’ records were made? This one, the Benny Goodman record, and guy Lombardo releases are everywhere, but I’ve also seen red Nichols and Harry James
SeverlyWarpedRecord 24th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumMiles Davis - Volume 1 | This is actually an American record, I clicked Canadian by accident…
Mod Edit: Fixed.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 24th Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMTed Weems - Heartaches / Oh! Monah | According to George Simon, this version of heartaches sold 3x more copies than the Victor version. Ted Weems said in his interview with George Simon that this record becoming a hit again was pretty bittersweet. When he recorded this song with Decca, his band wasn’t the big money maker it was in the 1920s so he was getting paid to record without royalties. Because of this he got pissed when the Decca version because a bigger hit than the Victor one (he was signed to Victor in 1947), and on top of that he and Victor's producers were kinda lost on what the follow-up record should be.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 19th Jan 2023 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Lennon And Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy | This album would probably be more praised if the Yoko ono songs were on their own separate album. Unlike what most people say, I don’t think her songs are bad but they just aren’t placed very well in this album. John Lennon’s songs are solid late 70s pop rock well hers are this weird new psych-new wave thing. It really makes listening to this album seem like 2 separate albums, but idk if anyone else thinks that
