Emmy Destinn - Aïda O Cieli Azzuri (O Skies Of Blue) / Tosca Preghiera--Vissi D'Arte E D'Amore (Prayer--For Love And Art I've Lived) (1914)
I can only imagine what three 1911 dollars would be equivalent to in today's money!

The John Cacavas Ensemble - Western Bridges / The Leatherman (1967)
Anyone know why these 'library music' records were 78 rpm? Sound quality purposes?

Art And Dotty Todd - Chanson D'Amour (Song Of Love) / Along The Trail With You (1958)
Rum ta tum ta tum! (Somebody had to say it.)

Monroe Brothers (Charles and Bill) - You've Got To Walk That Lonesome Valley / God Holds The Future In His Hands (1936)
I'd always thought it was inspired by the one line in Frankie Lane's "Rawhide".

Cliff Richard And The Drifters - Move It / Cha Cha Momma Brown (1959)
I'm now hearing Cliff sing the B side in my head.

Ernest Tubb And Andrews Sisters - Don't Rob Another Man's Castle / I'm Bitin' My Fingernails And Thinking Of You (1948)
An astonishingly odd musical pairing. The logic behind it only known to Kapp and Rackmil, I'd guess.

Nick Todd - At The Hop / I Do (1958)
Funny. For years I thought the lyric was "Get your lips wet on a chicken."

Sonny Kendis and His Stork Club Orchestra - A Night At The Stork Club (1941)
Definitely not the old standards you hear ageing rock stars croon these days. Macca, Rod, etc.
I've a tendency to sing many of these around the house as I do various chores. (When I'm not swearing about having to do them!)

King Cole - Nature Boy / Lost April (1948)
The tune itself was written about another Californian 'Proto-Hippy' who went by the moniker of Gypsy Boots.

Petula Clark - Where Did My Snowman Go / Anytime Is Tea Time Now (1952)
Haven't heard the B side, but it's probably best to hide it from advertising agencies.
They would be using it for microwave ready-meal adverts.

Desmond Dekker And The Aces - 007 / El Torro (1967)
Rumours keep popping up about EMI/Brigadiers releasing a few Beatles 78s around that time.
If anybody's found one, they're certainly being very quiet about it.

Four Aces Featuring Al Alberts - Love Is A Many Splendored Thing / Shine On Harvest Moon (1955)
Would have loved to see this on the 'Art Noveau' label that Brunswick dropped just a few years earlier!

The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There / Twist And Shout (1983)
Didn't know they still had them on offer. Nice one, Jock_Girl.

Sonny Kendis and His Stork Club Orchestra - A Night At The Stork Club (1941)
Drool, Pt. 2!
An instant swanky evening with a couple of Manhattans to hand and a stack of Carmen Cavalleros waiting to be played afterward. I'm a sucker for stuff like this.

The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There / Twist And Shout (1983)
It was part of a set marketed to vintage jukebox collectors. I seem to remember Elvis' version of "Blue Suede Shoes" (Or was it Carl Perkins?) being in it as well.

Stan Freberg - Heartbreak Hotel / Rock Island Line (1956)
Loads of memorable gags on both sides of this one. "Ripped my jeans! Third pair today." and "Get your chicken at the station?" immediately come to mind.

So another bit of mis-information given me cleared up!
I learn something new every day.

Gracie Fields - He's Dead (1941)
Another favourite of mine from my dad's collection. The 'B' side is a bit of a 'perennial', as they say.

Any idea why it says 'Green' under the catalogue no. ?

Elvis Presley - Baby Let's Play House / I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone (1955)
Noting the difference between the two scans, I wonder if there are shellac and vinyl pressings of this?

David Rose - Dance Of The Spanish Onion / Holiday For Strings (1946)
I remember Spike's version from my dad's copy. Best juxtaposition of a singing chicken and laughing record in history. Actually, I think it was the only one!

David Rose - Dance Of The Spanish Onion / Holiday For Strings (1946)
The 'B' side was a bigger hit.
Love the title, though. Makes me wonder if the follow-up was called "In A Persian Melon".

The Everly Brothers - Cathy's Clown / Always It's You (1960)
If memory serves, this was the last mass-produced UK 78.
Bit of a shame, as this version blows the 45 off the map, sonically.

Broadway Bell-Hops - Hi-Ho The Merrio (As Long As She Loves Me) / To-Night's My Night With Baby (1926)
I think it took a while before label size, or record speed for that matter became standardized. Certainly, those old Victor, Edison Bell, Columbia labels were quite a bit bigger than later 78s.

Perry Como - Dig You Later (A Hubba-Hubba-Hubba) / Here Comes Heaven Again (1945)
I always raise a bit of a chuckle with friends when I remark about how raunchy a lot of Doris Day's records were. "A Guy Is A Guy", etc. After giving a spin for them, their jaw usually drops and they ask "How the h**l did those ever get played on the radio?"
