George Slv 31st Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMGrandpa Jones And His Grandchildren - Mountain Dew / My Darling's Not My Darling Anymore (1947) | The original 1947 record, not the 1957 Decca, from The78Prof: [YouTube Video]

George Slv 9th Oct 2022 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - The Thing / I Guess I'll Have To Dream The Rest (1950) | Thanks a lot My Friend Jack.
You don't mean "Bit Singles".
Does this supposedly represent all of England? There was no national chart then, only regional.
Apparently at some point she reached #20.
PS: It's more clear to me now. The book is based on wholesale sales nation-wide. It also references sheet music. There are various errors in it. The website I had found in one city must have been displaying charts contrary to copyright and was shut down.
Do you find her in it at #20?

George Slv 9th Oct 2022 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - The Thing / Guess I'll Have To Dream The Rest (1950) | I've posted a UK chart of some kind that shows this single at #24. Notice some other interesting records. I have no idea what that Telephone Song could be at #15.
|
George Slv 19th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Tumbling Tumbleweeds / Moonlight On The Prairie (1934) | Found this 78 now. Added more scans.
I haven't seen Moonlight On The Prairie available on reissues.
|
George Slv 5th Aug 2018 | | 78 RPMKay Starr - I'm The Lonesomest Gal In Town / Share Croppin' Blues (1947) | It looks like Lonesomest Gal was written in 1912. Recorded by Ella Fitzgerald and Kay in the 1940s. Then Teresa Brewer got the idea to include it in her 1951 Snader telescriptions (TV Videos).
|
George Slv 3rd Aug 2018 | | 78 RPMKay Starr - You've Got To See Mama Ev'ry Night / Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (1948) | I don't know what to make of the disc number and date.
The A song is included on the Capitol Collectors Series CD before You Were Only Fooling.
There is a UK issue currently on sale at ebay, which could be added here too.
This official video says 1948
[YouTube Video]
Some sources say 1947.

George Slv 19th Jul 2018 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - Ol' Man Mose / I Beeped When I Shoulda Bopped! (1949) | She performed Mose on Ed Sullivan twice. In the Feb.1950 appearance Sullivan says she "made history" last year with that recording. I'd dearly like to know what that meant.
There were only 10 positions on the charts then, so we don't know how well it did. Must have had an effect in New York.
Her first performance was August 1949, which would be good to find. In 1958 Sullivan had a 10th anniversary show which included a clip of her 1949 appearance. That episode is viewable at the Paley Center in New York. That's an assignment for any ambitious person, and see if you can capture the image.
Here's the video of 1950 on YT:

The video here from April 2015 says Not Available for me.

George Slv 5th Jul 2018 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Tumbling Tumbleweeds / Moonlight On The Prairie (1934) | This original version of Tumbling Tumbleweeds can be found on this Hall Of Fame series CD. The sound is clean. It's on some other collections as well. It turns out I already have a flac purchase.
|
George Slv 25th Jun 2018 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Cool Water / Tumbling Tumbleweeds (1947) | You're right RD. TT on this video is 1937. See Bob Nolan.
Thanks for the link to the 1934. For a major hit it is hard to find. To me the 1937 rerecording does not sound as genuine, tho more polished. Where to get the 1934?
|
George Slv 24th Jun 2018 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Cowboy Camp Meetin' / Tumbling Tumbleweeds (1946) | THIS was RCA's rerecording of Decca's Tumbling Tumbleweeds. RCA reused it for single reissues in future decades. They also reissued it in 1947 for some reason.
It is actually being incorrectly used in a 1934 hits album online.
|
George Slv 21st Jun 2018 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Cool Water / Stars And Stripes On Iwo Jima (1945) | This subject is loaded with errors. So they only recorded it in 1945, and that was used for the two 1947 releases? Then the 1945 recording was used for all 45 reissues. My Golden Greats 45 is WRONG when it says "from the "Cool Water" album.
On Nolan's site he gives a 1959 recording by Tommy Doss. This must be from the Cool Water LP?
By the way is there a recording of Whoopie-ti-yi-yo (Get along little dogies) other than that LP?
|
George Slv 21st Jun 2018 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Cool Water / Stars And Stripes On Iwo Jima (1945) | More clarity. The Iwo Jima side charted #4 Country, Cool Water did not. Did the 1947 issue use this same Cool Water?
|
George Slv 21st Jun 2018 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Cool Water / Chant Of The Wanderer (1947) | This 1947 record at Youtube from althazarr
[YouTube Video]
In the new RCA arrangement in the chorus the bass voice goes up and down alone. RCA used this one on reissues for years.
This record did not chart for RCA.
|
George Slv 20th Jun 2018 | | 78 RPMSons Of The Pioneers - Cool Water / Stars And Stripes On Iwo Jima (1945) | A first recording on RCA before the rerecording in 1947? When was this recorded?
How can you be sure you are using the right videos for each? You can't use the same one for the Decca recording.

George Slv 19th May 2018 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - When The Train Came In / A Man Wrote A Song (1949) | Audio link to both sides at Internet Archive.

George Slv 19th May 2018 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - If You Want Some Lovin' / I've Got The Craziest Feeling (1951) | Audio link for both sides at Internet Archive.
|
George Slv 19th May 2018 | | 78 RPMRoy Hogsed - The Snake Dance Boogie / I'm Gonna Get Along Without You (1951) | There must have been an exchange of copyright with Kellem.
|
George Slv 19th May 2018 | | 78 RPMDude Martin And His Roundup Gang - If You Want Some Lovin' Just Let Me Know / It Wouldn't Be The Same Without You (1950) | This would be the first recording of the song, later recorded by Teresa Brewer in 1951 and also the Griffin Brothers in the R&B field.
Here's the audio link to Internet Archive.
|
George Slv 3rd Jan 2018 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - The Thing / I Guess I'll Have To Dream The Rest (1950) | On one CD The Thing in the UK version was shorter by one verse, leaving out St.Peter. Can anyone check if that applied to the 78?
There are a couple on ebay now.
|
George Slv 19th Dec 2017 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - The Thing / I Guess I'll Have To Dream The Rest (1950) | The site linked below is closed so here is an image of the chart, showing The Thing. Also shows other items by Teresa. What is the Telephone Song?
|
George Slv 28th Jun 2017 | | 78 RPMElvis Presley - Baby Let's Play House / I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone (1955) | I suppose this can explain the Bill Justis Raunchy 45 I got, which plays as if it has a stereo groove. No difference in the label.
So deezee is confirming that such bootleg 45s were issued.
|
George Slv 24th Jul 2016 | | 78 RPMThe Chords - Sh-Boom / Since I Met You Baby | Mastered from digital? No doubt
|
George Slv 4th May 2016 | | 78 RPMElvis Presley - My Happiness / That's When Your Heartaches Begin (2015) | What exact digital format do they use? 16-bit? Hahahaha.

|
George Slv 22nd Mar 2016 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - Roll Them Roly Boly Eyes / Gonna Get Along Without Ya Now (1952) | xiphophilos, I don't have the record or anything further. I normally wouldn't see German ebay, see it now with two of those. I might process and upload the ebay image, but this is why I mention the US seller.
|
George Slv 22nd Mar 2016 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - Roll Them Roly Boly Eyes / Gonna Get Along Without Ya Now (1952) | There's a 78 on sale now at Amazon.com. Might not sell outside US. Put the other label online. This is rare.
|
George Slv 10th Feb 2016 | | 78 RPMTeresa Brewer - The Thing / Guess I'll Have To Dream The Rest (1950) | The video of the Thing here is from my US 78. The UK Jasmine CD "The Original Sound" has a copy that curiously omits the second last verse about St. Peter, and is under 2 min. So that was the UK release?
|
George Slv 5th Feb 2016 | | 78 RPMAl Jolson - Avalon / Anniversary Song (1946) | Dis guy can't sing.
Anniversary Song based on Danube Waves of 1880. Composed by Ion Ivanovici of Romania.
Shall we say a Gypsy song, adopted by Jews.

You can notice a fuller tone.
He cut the fade a bit because of a scratch.

Also added Billboard review.
