LaurenceD SUBS 28th Aug 2018 | | 78 RPMThe Four Clefs - Love Has Come My Way / You Should Be Satisfied (1944) | Release date might be Jan 1945.

LaurenceD SUBS 24th Jul 2018 | | 78 RPMMcKinney's Cotton Pickers - Save It, Pretty Mamma / I Found A New Baby (1938) | Some interesting thoughts from Leonard Feather regarding Donald Redman here (see 'Myth 6', parts 1 & 2)
LaurenceD SUBS 5th Jun 2018 | | 78 RPMDodo Marmarosa Trio - Bopmatism / Trade Winds (1948) | Tentatively dating this to 1948 based on the BB article about Dial's 75-cent series: "Dial Incorporates"
By the way, scroll up to the front cover to see who Vic Damone was endorsing for president :-)
LaurenceD SUBS 29th May 2018 | | 78 RPMJohnny Lee Wills And His Boys - Memories Of You Dear / Milk Cow Blues (1941) | I had a little trouble finding this one due to the different name variation, so I modified his earlier releases with the "Johnny" spelling and linked them back together.
LaurenceD SUBS 27th May 2018 | | 78 RPMHelix High School Green And Silver Band - Americans We / Crosley March | Helix High is located in La Mesa, California. Daniel Lewis, band director from 1951-1959, passed away in July of 2017.
Composer Henry Fillmore died Dec 7, 1956. Perhaps this disc was recorded as a tribute.
LaurenceD SUBS 11th May 2018 | | 78 RPMDizzy Gillespie Plays Johnny Richards Conducts - Alone Together / These Are The Things I Love (1951) | The 8 sides mentioned in Billboard turned up in January 1951 packaged as a 10" LP (DL 3013) and, perhaps a bit later, in an album of 45s (FS-31, discs numbered 140-143). The 78 rpm album omitted disc 140. The other 78 rpm discs seem to have been sold separately, but I have not been able to positively confirm that.
LaurenceD SUBS 15th Apr 2018 | | 78 RPMJo Stafford - Ask Me No Questions / On The Outgoing Tide (1950) | The stock copy labels credit The Starlighters and Paul Weston, and show the full B-side title "On The Outgoing Tide". I reckon we can fill in this info, along with the composer credits, after someone comes up with some additional scans.

LaurenceD SUBS 13th Apr 2018 | | 78 RPMRosemary Clooney - Happy Birthday, My Darling (1955) | Turns out that there are no releases for brother or son. I updated the notes in the label biography.
LaurenceD SUBS 17th Mar 2018 | | 78 RPMJan Rubini - I Hear You Calling Me / Hejre Kati / Je Vous Aime Beaucoup (1946) | Violinist Jan Rubini introduces each tune with a short monologue. In the first intro, he also introduces his piano accompanist. I can't quite make out the name, which sounds like "Vasily Gilsa". BTW Jan Rubini is the father of (composer/arranger/keyboardist) Michel Rubini.

LaurenceD SUBS 17th Feb 2018 | | 78 RPMLes Paul And Mary Ford - Alabamy Bound / Texas Lady (1955) | Apologies, it was page 27. And here it is.
LaurenceD SUBS 16th Feb 2018 | | 78 RPMLes Paul And Mary Ford - Alabamy Bound / Texas Lady (1955) | RD, I had entered that date for that 45 as this is the release date that was listed in the booklet provided with the Legend and the Legacy box set. The booklet does not make a distinction between release dates for 78 rpm versus 45 rpm issues. I don't know whether that booklet was incorrect, or if Billboard received an advance copy prior to the 'official' release.
The Nov 26, 1955 Billboard ad on page 37 suggests that "Texas Lady" was Capitol's designated top side.
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Jan 2018 | | 78 RPMNick Lucas - Don't Call Me Sweetheart Anymore / Bye Bye Blackbird (1949) | Masters acquired from the Hucksters label, I believe.
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Jan 2018 | | 78 RPMNick Lucas - Side By Side / Tip Toe Through The Tulips With Me (1948) | These masters were purchased from the Hucksters label. I found a Billboard ad from June 19, 1948 for the Hucksters Nick Lucas releases. And here is a page showing a label scan from a Hucksters record.
These Hucksters releases must be quite scarce; I have yet to encounter one.
LaurenceD SUBS 17th Jan 2018 | | 78 RPMBill Jacoby And Tootsie Mac Duff - Dance, Ballerina, Dance (Burlesque Version) / Don't Let Me Have To Read You (1949) | I was curious as to the identity of Tootsie Mac Duff (or MacDuff), but all I could find is this obit which I presume is hers, from March 2009.
LaurenceD SUBS 26th Dec 2017 | | 78 RPMFreddie Hall [Vaudeville] - Coney Island Washboard / I'm In Love With The Mother Of The Girl I Love (1950) | This Freddie Hall is a vaudeville entertainer. Possibly the same person as on London L.518, but definitely not the Freddie Hall on Chance CH-1159.
LaurenceD SUBS 8th Nov 2017 | | 78 RPMLes Paul - Nola / Jealous (1950) | Added alternate images, with additional composer James Burns for "Nola". And moved "Nola" to the top side.

LaurenceD SUBS 10th Sep 2017 | | 78 RPMJo Ann Winters - Till I Waltz Again With You / Have You Heard (1953) | This release is mentioned in the May 16, 1953 Billboard Honor Roll of Hits on p.22 under "Till I Waltz Again With You", so your date looks good.
LaurenceD SUBS 30th Aug 2017 | | 78 RPMCarroll And Gorman - Canasta / The Little Hotel Down The Street (1950) | Thank you for that, KS. Information on the web about those early King album releases is kind of scarce, so anything we can get is appreciated.
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Aug 2017 | | 78 RPMThe Solitaires - The Wedding / Don't Fall In Love (1955) | I admit that I had to tinker with the images a bit to remove some writing on the labels. If you're curious, view the hidden images to see them as they really are.
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Aug 2017 | | 78 RPMFreddy Martin - Go Menlo Go (1951) | From https://www.menloschool.org/centennial/looking-back.php:
- In 1949, celebrated bandleader Freddy Martin composed “Go, Go, Go, Menlo!,” the School’s fight song sung at Homecoming today.
I'm not so sure about that date because of this copyright:
- Go! Menlo! Words and music by Freddy Martin. 40¢ © Maestro Music Co., New York; 7Dec51; EP59478
Also, if that cat# is an RCA matrix #, that would also support a 1951 release.
Curious as to why he composed this tune, I tried to track down a connection between Freddy and Menlo college, but have come up empty so far.
LaurenceD SUBS 11th Jun 2017 | | 78 RPMDick Thomas - Broken Heart / You Never Loved Me (1944) | Set the release date of this one (and 5002) to August 1944, based on the Billboard reviews and the July article on the launching of National records. Praguefrank lists the release dates as April 1, which cannot be correct; on the same page he dates the recording session as "Summer 1944 New York City".
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Apr 2017 | | 78 RPMTommy Doyle And His Rhythm Toppers - The Dental Song / Paddy Callahan Has Joined The Army (1940) | Runouts:
- A: US T 1009 A
- B: US T 1009 B
These two sides would seem to be original Top Hat releases.
LaurenceD SUBS 10th Apr 2017 | | 78 RPMJohnny Messner - She Really Meant To Keep It / Night Life Polka (1940) | "She Really Meant To Keep It": runout = US 1106-1 #3
- first appeared on Varsity 8117 by Johnny Messner and his Music Box Band
"Night Life Polka": runout = US 1025-1
- first appeared on Varsity 8384

LaurenceD SUBS 1st Apr 2017 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - Just Another Mount / Yas | A side is an anonymous dub of "All The Horsemen Knew 'er", by Pure and Simple, released on Hollywood Hotshots 382, ca. 1937.
B side is an anonymous dub of "Yes Yes Yes", by Bob Brandy, released on Hollywood Hotshots 424, ca. 1936.
Information about these tracks found at The Blue Pages.
LaurenceD SUBS 2nd Mar 2017 | | 78 RPMNeil And Hazel Moore - Sins Dark Sea / Our General | Unfortunately nothing more than: NM-1A-2 / NM-1B-2
I see these Musical Moores mentioned in news items around 1952 to 1953, but as yet have found nothing about their recording activities.
LaurenceD SUBS 28th Jan 2017 | | 78 RPMBill Roberts And The Leonard Gordon Chorus - Why Can't I Tell You / Unseen Rider | Unseen Rider / Music by Scott Seely, words by Kent Davis
© Simon House, inc., New York; 20Jun52; EP64017
Probably from 1952. This might be the same Bill Roberts that recorded with Vaughn Monroe (Decca 28423, ca. 1952)
