Neil Forbes 21st Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumRussell Morris - Retrospective | A pick of the tracks for me is "Boom Town" I have an earlier CD issue of this LP, once had the LP but gave it away when I got the CD.
Neil Forbes 15th Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Soul Satisfaction 4 (2003) | Looks like a collection of real rarities here. Last time I saw Stevie Wonder's "Music Talk" it was on his 3LP set, "Anthology"(M9-804A3) also issued as "Looking Back".Don't think it's been issued anywhere else until it turned up here.

Neil Forbes 10th Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Motown Chartbusters Volume 1 (1997) | No, RC, That one is the "Diana Ross & Supremes Plus" and it didn't come within a bull's roar of the STELO-prefixed issues. MFP was starting to break away from EMI in Australia when that LP hit the budget-price racks.
Neil Forbes 10th Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Motown Chartbusters Volume 1 (1997) | RC, Have you any other Tamla-Motown LPs with STELO-prefixes? Take a note of the number, STELO-9816 and check it against any other STELO-prefixed issue that you know to be 1971 vintage. If those numbers are lower in range by anything up to 10 numbers, then "Motown Giants" might, just might, be a January, 1972 issue. But I expect it to have been issued in the latter half of 1971.
Neil Forbes 10th Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Motown Chartbusters Volume 1 (1997) | So have I, but it's an earlier CD issue than the batch that these came from. Chartbusters 5 itself wasn't issued in Australia as such, it was cut down to a twelve-track LP called "Motown Giants"(STELO-9816) and issued in 1971.
Neil Forbes 10th Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Motown Chartbusters Volume 1 (1997) | The correct title of this and Vol.2 is "British Motown Chartbusters" Spectrum is doing a disservice to these albums and the memories thereof in interfering with the titles and graphic designs. I much prefer the original first CD versions, but even more-so, the original British EMI-issued LPs as they are "the genuine articles".
Neil Forbes 10th Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Motown Chartbusters Vol. 3 (1997) | There's a notable difference in the cover of this version compared to the earlier CD version which used the EMI-devised "portrait" version of the Tamla/Motown trademark and the effect placed on the cover artwork. I think I prefer the first CD version as they replicated the LP's cover art more accurately.
Neil Forbes 3rd Oct 2015 | | CD AlbumFleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits (1988) | The version I have is cat.# 7599-25838-2 and the track list is at variance with this version. That renders this as a completely different album, thus it should've had a different title and artwork. The contents of my version are:
1) Rhiannon; 2) Go Your Own Way; 3) Don't Stop; 4) Gypsy; 5) Everywhere; 6) You Make Loving Fun; 7) Big Love; 8) As Long As You Follow; 9) Say You Love Me; 10) Dreams; 11) Little Lies; 12) Oh, Diane; 13) Sara; 14) Tusk; 15) Seven Wonders; 16) Hold Me; 17) No Questions Asked. This, to me, is the rightful compilation for "Greatest Hits" with this artwork. The compilation shown above should really be titled "Best Of Fleetwood Mac" or some other title, and definitely should have different artwork.

Neil Forbes 26th Sep 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Abbey Road (1987) | Looking at the back insert, why didn't EMI simply adapt the original LP rear cover for the CD package?
Neil Forbes 26th Sep 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - A/B Road (2004) | Wouldn't even consider this as worth a mention. Those brazen enough to throw something like this together, then offer it for public market, they should NOT be rewarded for their efforts. Sure we can all make our own CD compilations of our favourite music, and some, like myself, even go that extra mile and design cards and labels to make them appear like professionally-produced CDs - BUT - there's no way on earth I'd offer anything I made for sale. No, I'll keep them for my own use.
Neil Forbes 13th Jul 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - RAK's Greatest Hits (1991) | If there's three extra tracks, this renders the compilation as an entirely new album, thus it warrants a new title and cover artwork, not just a new catalogue number!
Neil Forbes 13th Jul 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - RAK's Greatest Hits (1991) | The reason no track listing appears on the disc label is due to the large number of "tracks". But the title here is almost somewhat of a misnomer as tracks 1 to 5 or 6 predate the existence of the label this CD purports to celebrate. With the exception of Tobacco Road(Nashville Teens) originally issued on Decca in 1965, the rest of those tracks were on EMI's Columbia label. Hi-Ho Silver Lining, by the way, was co-written by Scott (Brandy) English and Larry (Rhinestone Cowboy) Weiss.
Neil Forbes 23rd Jun 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Hits Of 1961 (1988) | I have the 1965 volume of this. It includes Ferry 'Cross The Mersey by Gerry & The Pacemakers which should, by rights have been in the 1964 volume(I have the single as Columbia DB-7437, clearly states "Recording First Published 1964). And yes, it is good that the recordings are original(authentic)! Nothing pisses me off more than re-recordings or sound-alikes passed off as original.
Neil Forbes 5th Mar 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Motown: Old Navy (1997) | Might've been a good idea to put these tracks in a chronological order so they flow from year to year instead of jumping around from mid-60s to early-70s and back again.
Neil Forbes 18th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Love Me Do (2015) | Licenced BY Stargrove...? Shouln't that be Licenced TO Stargrove from EMI(The Gramophone Co.) Hayes Middlesex England? And I'm BLOODY sure EMI WOULD NOT have done so! The Beatles backlists are EMI's biggest cash cow! They'd be damned if they'd licence such precious stuff to some dinky little tin-pot operation in Canada's backblocks!
Neil Forbes 15th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Calling All Rock 'n' Roll Collectors Volume 3 (1994) | Not one single name do I recognise in the entire list, nor do I recognise the song titles. Were any of them even minor "hits"?
Neil Forbes 14th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Best Seventies Album In The World...Ever (1997) | They could be like Arnold Rimmer in "Red Dwarf" Holli-grams...ha-ha... oh smeg!
Neil Forbes 14th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love (2015) | I may well put a CD together of The Beatles, but I won't put it out for public sale. Some of the commercially-made CDs I've seen of late, I read the back panel of some various artist issues and see words to the effect that some tracks are re-recorded.... that's what ended it for me, I don't buy commercial CDs at all any more! Simply put, I can't trust them to issue authentic versions. I do my own CDs for myself and a few friends.... and they are STRICTLY NOT FOR SALE!
Neil Forbes 14th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumThe Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love (2015) | I'll bet Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) would be aware of these and they'd be fuming! Absolutely livid! Shame on Canada for lifting the copyright protections from these tracks.
Neil Forbes 14th Feb 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - The Best Seventies Album In The World...Ever (1997) | Disc 2, Tr.11 "The Hollisters"? Whoops! Should've been The Hollies, surely! Unless it's a cover by another group..... Nah, can't be!
Neil Forbes 9th Jan 2015 | | CD AlbumVarious Artists - Super Hits Of The '70s: Have A Nice Day, Vol. 5 (1990) | Track 11 - Games(Redeye) had been issued as a single in Australia in 1970/71 on the Festival label but the copy I have is on the American issued, Pentagram label. This sounds like a good series to have. Shame I'm not buying CDs anymore, I wouldn't mind getting hold of some of these volumes myself.

Neil Forbes 26th Dec 2014 | | CD AlbumTina Arena - In Deep (1998) | Cute, she was, R.C. but the point was, she was talented! or so that was supposed to be the point of the show, but when a certain American-owned hamburger chain started sponsoring the show, the emphasis swung away from the talent aspect toward the "cute kid who sings" aspect. The influence of that hamburger chain spoiled the show. especially with the addition of puppets and animal characters(people dressed up as a mouse or a dog). Original YTT member, Rod Kirkham even commented on this in the "profiles" section of the YTT Tells All DVD issue. He says he became embarrassed to watch the show in its latter years after those additions.
Neil Forbes 23rd Dec 2014 | | CD AlbumTina Arena - In Deep (1998) | This girl got her start on Australian TV's legendary "Young Talent Time" in about 1977 when she was just 8 years old. She was partnered on the show with John Bowles, who was about 9 or 10 at that time. Bowles went on to head up his own TV production company and his biggest project in 2001 was a tribute special, "Young Talent Time Tells All" where he interviewed Johnny Young and several of the team members from 1971 to 1988, including Tina, Jamie Redfern, Debbie(now Debra) Byrne, Greg Mills, Rod Kirkham, Jane Scali, Phil Gould and, of course, Johnny Young. When YTT was briefly relaunched in 2012, Tina was asked to be a judge on the show, filling the role once held by the late Evie Hayes, and Tina did a great job too! Sadly YTT Mk.2 only lasted 13 episodes. It wasn't given a fair go at all. A pity because the new "team" really packed a lot of talent into their young frames.
