Roger,

I'm adding some more scans of a test copy I own of the release.

Again, it was bought from Rob's Record Mart Nottingham, but I thought it was the general release until I got it home and saw the CD, as it was factory sealed when purchased.

Although the track listing shows 27 titles, the CD plays 23 in the same order as the released version. There are a couple of differences in the packaging as well.

The rear insert has a sticker over the bar code and Kev Roberts takes credit for the compilation.

A further difference is in the booklet as the notes are 'gobbledygook' as a mock up of the layout.

I've just added further images of a withdrawn copy of this release, it shows an alternative track listing for the two CD's.

It's interesting to note the (p) date of 1994 on the back inlay card and that re-mastering was carried out by Porky's. the booklet also differs slightly with the addition of text -

"Thanks to Will Davis, Frank Garcia, Ron Murphy, Jeff Miller. Post Production Jeff Miller, Soundworks, Livonia Michigan."

which does not appear on the generally available version.

I got this copy from Rob's Record Mart in Nottingham. I remember that although previously listed for release the local shops in and around Leicester could not obtain the CD and I was told that the CD issue had been put on hold.
Rob had obtained a number of these alternative copies (direct from Kev Roberts co-partner in Goldmine/Soul Supply?) and said that there were licensing issues over "Lucille".

It was perhaps a further 18 months or so before the general release of the CD was made with the new track list, so I bought one just to compare them.

The question is with the booklet and rear inlay's (p) date of 1994, why if it was produced around this date, do the notes in the booklet still have Richard Pack's sign off as Feb 1998?

When I bought the item it was factory sealed, I wonder if rather than lose money scrapping the withdrawn CD's they were repackaged for sale before the revised general release and sold via people like Rob or at All-Nighters?

Roger,
The 1997 CD was a second issue, a lot of the earlier releases were repackaged in slightly better looking format / inserts, although the booklets notes remained at the best - sparse.
You are correct in thinking that the Imaginations track was not included on the latter CD.
I'm afraid that Goldmine didn't employ proof readers nor did they check the CD's for track quality or indeed the correct track.
For example the original of GSCD101 For Millionaires Only v2 didn't show a track 9 on the listings both on the back of the CD or in the booklet and gave track 10 as 'Deceived - Ruby' this was track 9 and 10 was 'Showstopper - The Cashmeres'.
This was corrected on it being reissued.
