£10 for a UK MGM Marilyn Monroe record. It was over the odds (I imagine) but it was a charity shop and I try to see those purchases as charitable donations where I get something nice back for free. I think I also paid £10 for The Girl Can't Help It on London. There are some things you just can't leave in the shop...
Generally what I really want is pre-WWII stuff, so usually I won't pay more than £1. And usually I won't be expected to.
I recently SOLD one for $250, Little Walters Muskadine blues on Regal, found it at a charity shop at 6 for a dollar...have to pay for my hobby somehow.
$30 for "Stack-O-Lee" by Archibald on Imperial in 1998. Got it in the post from the USA, safely packaged, played it once and put it to one side. Next day being a weekend, I took an afternoon nap after some grocery shopping. Just after I woke up, I decided to play it again, only to drop it on to the turntable after unsleeving it and watching it break in two............DAMN!
Moral - make sure you're wide awake when you handle 78s!
$50 (+ S/H) for a NOS copy of Stratford ST-3, Glenn Yarbrough's first record. From an ebay seller several years ago, apparently it was one of two remaining copies.
£25 for this - it was previously thought to only exist on a scarce test pressing, and I needed to get hold of it for a compilation. That was the source for the only previous CD re-issue, which sounded incredibly muffled. The collector with that copy wouldn't loan it. Endless Googling found someone who listed it in their collection as a commercial Danish release! I offered £25 and it was accepted. With postage, £43 from Denmark, safely packed. I was delighted to receive it.
It was virtually mint condition, so sounded fantastic restored for CD release on JASCD 457. It's on the usual streaming and download sites too. An interesting curio, having only been issued in Denmark. Possibly a bit racy for English ears, and the Danes were a bit more liberal even in those days...

Looks like the copy I knelt on in the early 70s. Fortunately music wise the single was re-released on 45 a little while after
Nothing wrong with praising the Lord for your record collection, but isn't that going a tad too far, Whyperion?
Ooh, is there a shrine?
Just carelessness in playing a selection of 78s, and placing on pile. There a few 78s overpriced ? In one of the booth lock up stalls at Denaby Market if anyone fancies a trip to South Yorkshire with money in their pocket to burn.
£80 + shipping from the UK (to France) for ODJB's "Sphinx / Alice blue down" on UK Columbia. A 12" heavier than a plate ! Not my fav' 78rpm though, but a nice piece in my humble collection.
Sadly I'm obsessed with American jazz and blues and I want my record to be on their original pressing. 95% of my collection is American pressing then. Shipping is killing me, each time.
I haven't felt tempted to buy anything at auction so far. The most I ever paid may have been $5 for a single jazz record in excellent condition at a record store in Berkeley, CA, but it's been a long time since I've even bothered to look in stores. The vast majority of my records I've got for 25-50 cents a piece at estate sales or in thrift stores. Most of them aren't rarities, of course.
Lucky you, who find records that easily ! There is no way I could find a record of any (of my) interest(s) around here If I want one, I have to order one.
In France, shouldn't you be able to find the occasional Django Reinhardt on Swing, for example? That would be out of the question for me in the US, but then I don't have to actually own everything I love on 78s. I still can find more here that I like than I could actually ever listen to, not to mention fit into my house.
