78rpm discs are becoming an increasingly rare sight nowadays, so I thought I would start a topic as a resource for collectors.
Online websites are the best place of course - eBay, Discogs and Music Stack all have 78s for sale. Some get listed on Amazon. Also: Off The Record Gramophone Records Shop Nauck's does regular auctions
But what about buying them offline? In the UK, I find they are rarely seen in charity shops, or even record stores. Music and Video Exchange in London has some 78s at their shops in Notting Hill and Greenwich. Any others?
There are also Record Fairs in the UK, listed by Mike Thomas here: Record Fairs
John Wright lists various resources at his website, though it is a few years out of date. He lists some dealers too, and shops, although several have certainly closed: Harold Moores Records and GRAMEX are gone in London.
Does anyone know of other places to buy 78s in the UK?

Having amassed thousands of discs for little outlay often given free. One way is to make it known to local vinyl record dealers/car booters you will buy 78's as they often refuse offers of 78's as they think there are no customers. In one case the record dealer just gave customers my phone number.
The other way is local free ads and just getting a reputation as that odd beardy type who collects 78's and they will turn up on your doorstep.
Caution ! This will also mean you will have more Bing, Kunz and Belafonte discs than any human would wish for.

Local free ads? I doubt I could place an advert for free anywhere locally!
I better get down to Margate! Speaking of Kunz, I saw a load of his 78s in Oxfam Notting Hill last year - so they have 78s too. But it's unusual to see 78s in charity shops nowadays.
In the US, I have found most of my 78s at estate sales (locally advertised through craigslist). There are also a handful of thrift stores (the American version of charity shops) that will still put them on the sales floor, but many don't seem to think it's worth it because turnover of all the usual Bing Crosby etc. records is probably very, very slow.

You're right about a lot of charity/thrift shops don't bother with 78's that's why I call on them and leave my number and either the store or the person donating the 78's will make contact.

A few short years back, you could easily find 78s in a charity shop, but I have noticed them being absent... I suppose if they can't sell them as readily as vinyl or CDs, they just occupy space that something else that would sell would otherwise be in...
...Plus, they tend to deteriorate, through being poorly handled - people, it seems, just throw them out of the way to get to the vinyl... lots of broken 78 bits when you do find them.
That said, a couple of little tricks of the bin digger's trade I've learned:
Firstly, get away from large town centre charity shops, where the above issues are more of a concern, and find Proper charity shops out in the suburbs, or otherwise out in the sticks...
(Often large shops loaded with guff, more in the style of an old fashioned junk shop)
... Google is your best friend here - use Google maps to find little local shopping precincts and local shop parades amidst an estate, you often find an occasional charity shop on one of these, which has he added benefit of not drawing the record collecting masses, so when you find music in them, it's all yours! :)
(Streetview is great way to do preliminary research, and go there without having gone there first... you can figure if it's worth the effort - when you see a clutch of shops in a given area, it's worth a trip, as opposed to just one, which might not having anything at all, and you've wasted a journey for no reward.)
Secondly, check out House clearance businesses, and their associated shops - furniture places and such - these guys are more concerned with getting the contents of a house through and out the door... Primarily they make the money from the furniture itself. often have vinyl and CDs, tapes, as well as the occasional box of 78s, which they want rid of pronto! = bargain city!
Finally, as you are talking 78s, which are now regarded by the general populace as "antiques", head down to your local antiques shop, who usually have a box or two of them stashed somewhere.
(Trendy, shabby-chic (cheek) shops sometimes have these things for "colour" or effect).

You could try your local Refuse site, some keep things to one side that may be passed on, have seen things like golf clubs and bikes on the side, and as that would be were most people dispose of old items, you never know.
Just noticed that - there are similar ads on my local Gumtree, but I'd rather be able to browse for what I want, rather than buying large collections indiscriminately.

You could look on the forum, member podgypipes has 600 to give away.

You can’t win, they were free to collect, worth a trip if not to far.
Yes, I would have thought so too Getalife (but not for me..sorry 78's..apart from a very few..less than half a dozen in fact I'd be interested in, but only for nostalgic reasons).
This isn’t really a sales website though. No harm people posting such ads, but Gumtree or eBay are better bets for them. Incidentally, I do get messages here about 78s on my ‘wants’ list but it’s always offering me very common stuff.

Just a rather late follow-on to Magic Marmalade's mention of house clearances. Some house clearances and estates are disposed of though auction houses.
I'd not generally recommend buying sight unseen or out of area for 78s - however tempting it is. The risk of ending up with shattered shellac is a real one. Many auction houses rely on a mix of online bids and room bids to move their lots now - and however well packed, 78s aren't likely to transport well..
However, if you're in a position to view pre-sale and - crucially - pick up yourself, the occasional collection may prove interesting.

I personally will not do business with Nauck's because of his pushing of (american) right-wing politics and the fact that he also uses his business to push his Christian faith at people. I am a Christian and and I find this last one offensive. We're talking records here and not a Sunday school class.

I forgot about antique shops, I’m sure I have seen them there too. Yes, broken bits of 78s in the boxes are sadly a common feature!
I tend to shy away from antique shops. They have no idea how to price 78s. A case in point .. one shop I was in had a copy of In the Mood by Glenn Miller at $5.00, and a copy of a the 1908 Victor release of Nat M. Wills - No News Or What Killed The Dog for 50 cents
