W.B.lbl ● 15th Oct 2019		The Benny Hill Show 1955 - 1989	If you were to ask me, the show irrevocably jumped the shark in 1979 after Dennis Kirkland took over as producer/director. It is most likely *not* a coincidence that under his reign, the T&A quotient took a hard turn, done in such a way as to pander to the crowd that read the likes of Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler and Mayfair. And had little or nothing to do with comedy or making people laugh. But what Ben Elton and the others did to him was a forerunner of what in America would be characterized as "the politics of personal destruction" that became SOP starting in the 1990's. Too, as to the repetition factor, in the '80's Hill, besides becoming "old" and "tired" (and also bloated - not unlike his show), began approaching said repetition in an increasingly lifeless, rote, formulaic, perfunctory, been-there-done-that, going-through-the-motions, phoning/mailing it in, running-on-fumes, operating on autopilot and bordering on robotic form that is positively deadly in terms of attracting audiences. It was similar to the last years of The Jackie Gleason Show after The Great One moved to Miami Beach in 1964 and several of his shows were so bad that even he admitted they looked like "they had been made on the way to the men's room" - which pretty much describes much of Hill's output especially post-1982. In terms of the "bawdiness," the one American variety show that came closest (as could be permitted under the strictures to which American network TV was subjected in those days) was Dean Martin's, after he divorced his second wife Jeannie in 1970; it was not long after that, that The Dean Martin Show came increasingly under the radar of NOW, even so far as to that group bestowing a "Put Her In Her Place" "award" to the show a few years later. (One Martin bio cited one edition where he, Art Carney and Liberace did a routine about "hot pants.")

The programme is showing again on freeview television UK TalkingPictures (various channels Sun. 20-Oct-2019 at 2200 hrs....miss it at your peril. MR B PAGE 9th Aug 2019		Crown Court 1972 - 1984	Review I remember this show quite well,when this series used to be screened three episodes per week at 1:30 p.m.,and also launched the careers of well-known celebrities such as Bob Hoskins [who looked a bit like a car dealer],Brenda Fricker,Judy Parfitt,Ben Kingsley,Nigel Havers,Peter Capaldi,Brian Cox,Tom Conti,Gregor Fisher,etc.Not Only I loved the series so much,but also my late mother liked the series,and still brings me back memories,and oh yes,In case you want to know the actual music introduction opening of the TV series is of course the opening bars of the fourth movement [Allegretto] from Sinfonietta by Leos Janacek,in which I like it so much as well as the TV series,and also I like the celebrities and they look so young and how they dressed beautifully. 6 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?

MR B PAGE 17th Jul 2019		The Streets Of San Francisco 1972 - 1977	Review This is my all-time favourite TV series,and there are 121 episodes in total.Richard Hatch took over from Michael Douglas in Series 5,playing Lt.Dan Robbins.Also,guest stars appeared in this show such as Mark Hamill,David Soul,Paul Michael Glaser,Stefanie Powers amongst them,and not to mention Arnold Schwarzenegger who play Joe Schmidt in the episode-Dead Lift from Series 5.Now,I`ve got the complete series,what a great TV series,and I still remember used to screen these on Tuesday Nights. 6 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
23skidoo 22nd Jun 2019		The Lancelot Link Secret Chimp Hour 1970 - 1972	I was just looking at an episode of this on YouTube and interestingly, while the episodes' main credits use the Lancelot Link name, when the episode titles are announced following a teaser scene, the series title is given as Lance Link, Secret Chimp. Also, it does appear that the show's original broadcast title was The Lancelot Link Secret Chimp Hour, not the shorter version.
