I Claudius (1976)
I've been watching the re-run and discovered that Brian Blessed can whistle through his teeth.

The Tomorrow People (1973 - 1979)
Nicholas Young was interviewed a few years ago about this.A young woman had recognised him in the street and said that when she watched it as a child she had a crush on him .He asked her to go for a drink with him but she replied,'That was then.'

You who turn the wheel and look to windward....etc.

I can't help thinking of Athos and D'Artagnan (Tom Burke & Luke Pasqualino) as Felix & Eddie.

Mosley (1998)
Spoiled by miscasting Jonathan Cake in the title role. He's a fine actor but far too handsome and louche. The real Mosley was a humourless stiff with a face like a potato.

In the new gender neutral version we've been promised perhaps there will be more questions about female painters e.g. Andrea Del Sarto, Alma Tadema & Joan Miro.

Only Connect (2008 - Now)
A moment to treasure from last week's show. There was a sequence question based on the titles of Ricky Gervais's tours.A team buzzed in and got it wrong and, when Victoria suggested that maybe they weren't Gervais fans, one bloke said something like,'My hatred of him shouldn't have stopped me getting that.'
I love a bit of asperity to liven things up.

Hilarity on last night's show.On the music round Edwin Starr's War was played and a contestant thought it was T Rex.Almost as good as the one a few months ago when a Bo Diddley record was identified as being by Cole Porter.

It has a kind of Zen quality.

Ask The Family (1967 - 1984)
Robert Robinson gave me the impression that he was sending it up himself the way he used to make fun of Eric Ilett's cheap animation effects and commenting on what nice middle class names the imaginary characters in the maths problems had.
The usual pattern for parents was that Father would be the managing director of a light engineering company and Mother would be a 'teacha' who would refer to children as ch'ldr'n.

There was one of those questions this week.

Starter for ten
Negative e to the i pi is equivalent to what?
Contestant buzzed in with -1
Wrong.
Contestant from other team went for +1 and got it.

I usually say 2.

Judge John Deed (2001 - 2007)
Written by a vegetarian and starring a vegetarian and don't we know it.The propaganda isn't subtle.
One of those programmes that's so bad it's unmissable.

Has anybody noticed that Mike Sarne singing Come Outside sounds exactly like Phil Tufnel and vice versa.

The Galloping Gourmet (1968 - 1972)
When he invited a member of the audience to come up and sample what he'd cooked he'd give them the same fork he'd just used to taste it himself.

Survivors [1975-1977] (1975 - 1977)
The original Survivors was very non-PC.All the good, reliable people were middle class and the ones doing all the looting and generally causing trouble were either working class or Welsh.

The Liver Birds (1969 - 1996)
Catholic wit,Protestant stiffness. That's nothing like how it is.These stereotypes were scathingly undermined in Julie Burchill's novel Married Alive and in Ms Burchill's work generally.
