National Treasure (2016)
Absolutely brilliant, but deeply disturbing, National Treasure sees Robbie Coltrane turn in a tour de force performance as celebrity comedian/actor Paul, who finds himself accused of historic sex offences. The script doesn't shy away from the obvious comparisons with the likes of Jimmy Savile, Stuart Hall and Rolf Harris - in fact, all three are mentioned in the programme.

What is particularly clever is that right up to the end, you don't know whether to think Paul is guilty, or not guilty. All four episodes are available on the All4 app (Channel 4 TV app) if you want to find out. If you haven't watched this - do. It's compelling (and occasionally distressing) viewing, and Coltrane and Walters are utterly magnificent from start to finish. Recommended.

Apple Tree Yard (2017)
*SPOILERS*

I wasn't entirely sure what to make of this. The storyline was decent and I broadly enjoyed watching it but I do think there was a lack of character development. Ben Chaplin's Mark Costley was unveiled late on to be something of a nutjob, but we didn't really learn anything about his back story and I thought we needed to. I also thought that there was a big hole in the plot whereby the prosecution didn't believe that Yvonne had been raped by George Selway, yet if she hadn't, what was her motive for having him murdered? It didn't make sense. That said, Emily Watson was brilliant in the role of Yvonne Carmichael, and it's just a shame there were so many loose threads in the plot. Or was it just me? What do others think?

They had Lleyton Hewitt on board this year, who I didn't like at all as a player, but his commentary this year was superb - knowledgable, concise, insightful... credit where it's due and all that!

Just to clarify on the Note - the early series resulted in a job for the series winner. In the most recent few series the winner gets to go into business with Alan Sugar (the contestants must pitch their own business plan as part of the series).

Forgot about this. It started off pretty well as I recall, great premise - I've a feeling it petered out somewhat towards the end though I can't remember what happened now (which probably says a lot).

Sadly not. There were two VHS copies - one which my mother accidentally taped over (no comment), and one a former friend had that is no longer obtainable. I suppose my two opponents may also have footage but I wouldn't know.

I do have a couple of photos from the filming (taken by the TV people)... but I'll keep those under my hat!

Under The Moon (1996 - 1998)
I remember watching this fairly often and once - I was the target audience being in my early twenties and a late night party animal at the time - Rick Wakeman was guest presenting the show for some reason. They used to have a live phone in and they had some chap on the phone who said, "I've got a question... what's a c*** like you doing presenting a show like this?"

Wakeman handled it quite well, and as the guy (who was presumably a bit sloshed) got cut off, he responded with, "I suppose another good question would be 'who let you out'?"

It was a shambolic show but I liked it. Tom Binns was great.
