Bread, Love And Dreams - Amaryllis (1971)
Yes indeed if memory serves Human Beast is SKL 5011. The burning question is that Human Beast has a peep hole die cut which means has anyone seen LK 5011, that is does the mono pressing exist? Seeing the existance of SDN 18 previously unissued but at least as demonstration test copy there is every chance.

Beggars Opera - Pathfinder (1972)
Sadly this is one of my many Vertigo LP's with no cover. I used to find lots of Vertigo discs but no cover. I think wholesalers in the 1970's were sent lots of over production by Philips/ Phonagram.

Beggars Opera - Beggars Opera Act One (1970)
I agree. Keef ( Keith McMillian) was the master at finding a location and taking enigmatic photo's of the Vertigo band. His design and post processing skills were top notch. No wonder Hipgnosis did not get a look in but I suppose they were kept busy at Harvest.

Focus - In And Out Of Focus (1971)
I noticed the printers dots designed by Berney and Wade when I was waving the LP cover and noticed the word FOC..reveal itself. A brilliant cover and of course executed to bring out the brief to think of focus and optical relations to it; although I think Thijs chose the name for more metaphysical reasons.

Focus - Moving Waves (1971)
It took RCPG 20 years to work this out, but done in a flash on 45worlds. I asked about the photo on the back and the band member reckoned it was Leeds University. The Dutch equivalent Focus II has a different b&w photo of the same gig.

Ben - Ben (1971)
I have only just realised the lack of Vertigo identifier on the sleeve. I know virtually nothing of this band save that there is a connection with Keith Jarrett and that is only hearsay.

Jan Akkerman - Profile (1973)
The A side is still amazing after all these years. This LP used to be seen all over the place. The marketing people timed its release with impeccable timing

Third Ear Band - Music From Macbeth (1972)
I wonder if the boy singing on the disc is Keith Chegwin. Whoever he is being Fleance he needs to be counted as it is a superb performance.

Shame we cannae see the LP sleeve. It is an appalling creation and all the more compelling because of the craft skill of the designer

Norman Haines is alive and well living in Birmingham, Alex Dmo is in North London

Focus - Moving Waves (1971)
it does get confusing but a genuine Blue Horizon pressing has this label ( marketed by Polydor) when Blue H was a legal entity and a sleeve with BH on the back. Still what a classic album. The one LP which defined Progressive music which is a different genré to Prog rock

This was one of Storm Thorgersons favourite covers. Not sure exactly why but that is what he said.

Various Artists - Vertigo Annual 1970 (1970)
Yeah I remember that the UK public were being trained up to use the new Decimal currency so items were labelled in decimal before Feb 1971 / D Day. I bought my copy in 1979 or 1980 in Cyclops, Birmingham. It was new old stock but had some wear and tear - I'm sure it went in and out of the racks. I paid the cover price - £2.50 and still feel cheated that I paid the 'rounded up' price!

Pacific Drift - Feelin' Free (1970)
when I started collecting LP's in 1978 I remember seeing this LP is a junk shop. It was always there each time I went in. I am still not sure why I left it behind. It was Beddard & Pritchard on Station Rd, Erdington, B23 6UB. The shop is still there but was last a Model shop.

Cressida - Cressida (1970)
I have a theory about the design used by Teenburger for this cover. I can't prove my thesis fully I was asked by a member of the band if I knew where are the photos used for the inner sleeve. There is no credit for the photographer but it is clear that it must be Colin Fulcher/Teenburger. I believe that he went to see the band whilst recording at Wessex Studios. When I was watching the recent documentary on Queen it focussed on the time the band and Sex Pistols were recording at Wessex. The filming at formerly Wessex to capture the various encounters with Queen and Sid Vicious showed me that Wessex was a neo Gothic deconsecrated church which has to be what Barney decided to do for the LP cover. I know from my research on his Red Dirt LP design that Barney could work rapidly once he had his idea. Barney had seen the band; looked at their name saw the recording studio; it seems to me he had what was needed to create the LP cover and the enigmatic 'Barney space' which can be seen from the cover of a Surrealist publication which is the centrefold of this LP.

Gracious - This Is... Gracious!! (1972)
Great sleeve by Roger Dean inspired by the Teenburger ( Barney Bubbles) designed first LP. I can make a stretch to the first Cressida LP when I see the Stained glass theme Roger uses here.

Gracious - Gracious! (1970)
The cover is a superb example by Colin Fulcher - or Teenburger as credit who was also Barney Bubbles. He was a true artist in that this cover was his homage to Pop Art. The outside is the black of the Vertigo logo designed by Linda Glover which inspires the ! and his decision to used textured white cardboard. The middle is not a painting but a photo of a painting in a diarama. It is a classic.

Cressida - Asylum (1971)
I agree sir. I left one behind in the shop when it was £6. I think that was 1986. The reason was not the price but I had a copy already!

i am very surprised to see this pressing with credit Dunbar "Brox", Morsehead, Hickling, Dmochowski so early.

Victor Brox family name is Hickling. So a double credit!

Various Artists - A Week At The Bridge E16 (1978)
ah I see. This means that CBS introduced new pressing machines in 1969 to cope with the boom in vinyl demand but sadly lost their characteristic rough texture on label which must have been a hallmark of the Oriole machines.

The Billboard news item states that 45 presses are in operation indicating the potential output of the place. No wonder it was used for contract pressings. I have seenJHE UK Track records on this press.

Jimi Hendrix - Band Of Gypsys (1970)
Peter Sanders who was responsible for both covers may have included John Peel because he was sharing accomodation with John Peel. Beautiful Peter as he was known if you read Clive Selwoods book ' all the right moves'.

I don't know the area at all but I assumed that Aylesbury factory was different location to Aston Clinton, but of course it could be the same place. I do know that Columbia purchased Oriole Records because they had their own Aston Clinton pressing plant in order to set up CBS in UK and Europe.

The disc under the label looks typical of CBS when they pressed at their newer facility in Aylesbury from 1969 onward.

Coleridge Goode who is still alive has written about this session in his book publ by Northway.

The films on Youtube of him about 20 years ago playing along to his 78's is well worth checking out.

my copy has the same matrix marks as japanese issue. Which makesme wonder if it was pressed from a discarded japanese stamper

Cressida - Cressida (1970)
The winged creature is 'The goddess Victory of Samothrace' found in Le Louvre' I think this is known as Nike and not an angel called 'Cressida' as published in a silly book about the sleeve designer Barney Bubbles who was Teenburger seen here as sleeve credit.

The John Dummer Band Featuring Nick Pickett - Blue (1972)
my copy came from the collection of someone who left this on top of a wardrobe. Dust settled into the die cut clouds. When you open the gatefold you see 'dust of the cloud' which has settled and stuck onto the inside. Subtle but perhaps an unitended consequence of interest to the Artist.
