GimmeVinyl 4th Jan 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Revolver (2012) | Splendid, Lee Wrecker! Now, if someone would do the same for the US 2012 release of With The Beatles on Parlophone... I'm planning to pick up a new copy of Rubber Soul soon, and pretty sure that LPs cat number has been shortened as well..
GimmeVinyl 1st Jan 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumGlenn Miller And His Orchestra - The Best Of Glenn Miller Vol 2 | I believe that the (E) means that this LP is in "reprocessed" stereo. And people wonder why I'd rather play the original 78s...
GimmeVinyl 29th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Something New (1970) | I got the matrix numbers from another site... A side, ST-X-1-2018 1S 5. B side ST-X-2-2018 1S 5. I don't own this LP, but... I'd seen it. I held it in my hands. I wish I would have pulled the LP out of the sleeve, because I didn't know that there are two different color vinyl editions pressed. The jacket seemed rather flimsy to me, compared to either it's US Capitol counterpart, or it's UK Parlophone release. The price seemed a little high to me, at $34.99.. But then, where am I going to see another one? This item is for sale at Dearborn Music, Dearborn Michigan ..

GimmeVinyl 27th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumBurgess Meredith - Aesop's Fables (1965) | I'd like to hear this..at least once.
GimmeVinyl 26th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Beatles '65 (1971) | Ok.. so I was about to play my copy of Beatles 65.. and I noticed a few white specks on the vinyl. No big deal, a couple of revs with the Discwasher will take care of that. Nope, still there. I'm wondering.. are these tiny white specks pieces of label from using regrind? You all do know.. that damaged or unsold vinyl records still in the plant are ground up, and not "melted down" to be recycled. I've heard that Motown records could be bad for that, as they ground up unused or damaged records..label and all.. to be reused in other pressings. The little white specks on my Apple issue pressing doesn't seem to affect its playback at all.. but fooled me into thinking that there was still dust on the playing surface.

GimmeVinyl 26th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Revolver (1966) | After getting a brand new Parlophone pressing of Revolver for Christmas, I gave my orange label Capitol copy to a friend of mine for his daughter to play on her Audio Technica Bluetooth turntable. The vinyl was in pretty good shape, but the jacket was pretty worn. She was really excited to receive it...
GimmeVinyl 26th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Beatles' Second Album (1964) | It may not really belong here.. but here's a cool pic of my copy playing on my ol' Dual 1219 turntable. Why didn't someone mention that she's so dusty?
GimmeVinyl 26th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - With The Beatles (2012) | Wow..I can read the matrix number on side two... Careful with that one.. it's her first time.
GimmeVinyl 25th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - With The Beatles (2012) | The cat number on the label has been shortened on the latest pressing to 824201, and the wording on the rim has been changed. But don't quote me on that yet... going by memory! Pics coming soon..
GimmeVinyl 25th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - 1st Live Recordings Volume One (1979) | Ok.. so I had this when I was still in junior high.. both volumes. Being on Pickwick, it was rather cheap at the local K-Mart. Played the hell out if it!! As for the track Hully Gully.. I believe that's Tony Sheridan on vocals... Been decades since I've heard it...
GimmeVinyl 25th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Beatles Rarities (1978) | Shouldn't this be linked to the Dutch Parlophone issue of the same LP?
GimmeVinyl 23rd Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Who - Meaty, Beaty, Big And Bouncy (1980) | Just a few days ago, I passed this particular pressing on to a friend of mine that introduced The Who to his 12 year old daughter, that owns a Audio Technica turntable with Bluetooth... Play it in good health!!! I replaced it with a brand new UMC/Track Records pressing.
GimmeVinyl 23rd Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Revolver (2012) | Ahh.. so there is a couple of variations to the label on my latest pressing and the 2012 pressing.. I have the run-out matrix number of 172762E1/A on the A side, 172762E2/A on the B side.
GimmeVinyl 22nd Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumRod Stewart - Every Picture Tells A Story (1971) | Ok.. I know this may be a little out if the scope of 45worlds vinyl album list.. but I own a 7 inch 33 on Mercury an excerpt EP of the LP Every Picture Tells A Story. 4 songs are on it.. I Know I'm Losing You, Mandolin Wind, Gasoline Alley, and the title track. Yes, this is a promotional release. I haven't seen it listed anywhere!! I'll have to dig it out of my 45 collection..where it's hiding. Has anyone else ever seen this?
GimmeVinyl 22nd Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Revolver (2012) | Ok.. so, my wife bought me a brand new pressing of Revolver for Christmas.. Parlophone label and track listing.. even states PCS 7009 on the back side of the jacket.. To me it sounds stunning.. as compared to the orange label Capitol that is in my collection. My question is... Is this truly a US copy? A little sticker on the cellophane declared Made in Germany. Also..the label is a little different. The small writing on the rim states Mfg by Capitol.. Universal Music Group... And also has wording regarding Apple Corps. Another thing.. The matrix number on the run-out seems to have been applied with a computer. the numerals seem to be made up from a series of dots. Since this is a brand new pressing, purchased in the US, I'm taking a guess that it belongs here, and not under the UK Parlophone listing. Pics of my label coming soon!
GimmeVinyl 22nd Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumLenny Bruce - The Story Of Lenny (1975) | If you were to listen to the first track on the B side.. A Pretty Bizarre Show.. you'll know why Lenny was arrested! That was recorded on the night in 1961 when he was arrested for saying "blah blah blah"!!!
GimmeVinyl 22nd Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Who - Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy (2017) | What? No pics of the way cool Track Records label? We'll just have to see about that!! As Keith Richards said.. "Now dig The Who..."
GimmeVinyl 21st Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Beatles' Second Album (1964) | A couple days ago, I was at a nearby record store thumbing through the used section of The Beatles LPs... And noticed 4 or 5 copies of both The Beatles Second Album, and Something New LPs. The majority were the 71-75 Apple pressings (I avoid orange label pressings.. they just don't look right to me. ). Came across a green C Capitol label of the Second Album. It looked real nice and clean. They have it priced at $19.95. I've heard that the green label pressings are a bit on the rare side. But.. I didn't pull the trigger on this one.. because I have a nice mono Scranton rainbow pressing. If someone is looking for a green label pressing, (probably a Winchester pressing, didn't look that close at it) take a trip to Dearborn Michigan, and head for Dearborn Music.... I'll give you directions.

GimmeVinyl 21st Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumSonny Terry - Sonny Is King! (1970) | Yep... It's in stereo!!
GimmeVinyl 18th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumSonny Terry - Sonny Is King! (1970) | I was rather shocked to not see this LP listed! My copy states stereo, on the label. All other copies I had seen state mono, even the Fantasy rerelease of 1973. Haven't played it in a while. I'll have to see for myself if it's in stereo or not... Lightnin' Hopkins side recorded 1960, Brownie McGhee side recorded 1962.
GimmeVinyl 16th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumNirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York (1994) | Looks like I have to take a couple pics. Mine's on black vinyl.
GimmeVinyl 16th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumHuey "Piano" Smith And The Clowns - Serious Clownin': The History Of Huey "Piano" Smith And The Clowns (1986) | I really love the label mascot.. it's a parody of the London label's Parrot... The album has some good stuff on it too...
GimmeVinyl 15th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumGlenn Miller And His Orchestra - The Best Of Glenn Miller, Vol. 2 (1966) | I know I own this.. but I'll betcha it's an American RCA Victor pressing on the yellowish orange label. I'm claiming it for now, until I can exhume my copy from the archive, and see for sure. Too bad my copy doesn't have its jacket.. but at least it's in a plastic lined sleeve.
GimmeVinyl 15th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumJoe Cocker - Mad Dogs & Englishmen (1970) | Awesome album! But, there was some stuff from the film hat didn't make it on to the LP... Like the cover of Let It Be as sung by Claudia Lennear.
GimmeVinyl 15th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumTom Waits - Small Change (1976) | Yeah...Small Change got rained on with his own .38... Even though Nighthawks At The Diner is my fave Tom Waits album, this one does have some very cool stuff on it!
GimmeVinyl 13th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumMartha And The Vandellas - Greatest Hits (1966) | Reissued on the Motown label.. M5-204V1. Also stereo Gordy GS-917
GimmeVinyl 13th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis Presley (1956) | Ok.. as for the Nipper argument.. seems like Emile Berliner had acquired the US rights to Nipper in 1900, and became the trademark of the Victor Talking Machine Company in 1901. The Gramophone Company used an angel scribing grooves onto a disc on their label at first.. and didn't use Nipper on their record labels until February, 1909... So much for the notion of leasing Nipper..
GimmeVinyl 13th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis' Golden Records (1958) | Yeah.. top scan labels are from 1965 through 1967, I believe.. and probably discontinued in '68, along with all other mono RCA Victor LPs.
I'd prefer to have a copy of this mono release rather than the late '70s-80s electronically processed stereo version I was given.. that echo is over the top, man...
GimmeVinyl 13th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis Presley (1956) | Hmm.. one more thought here.. Neil states that gramophones and records were the last thing on RCA's mind.. kind a beg to differ on that.. because General Electric owned NBC, as well as RCA..and what better place to find music and performers than the Victor record division, because you already own the rights... That is the biggest reason CBS purchased Columbia Records back from the American Record Corporation in 1938....
GimmeVinyl 13th Dec 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis Presley (1956) | An interesting argument, Niel.. but.. Victor was using the Nipper trademark before and after the sale to RCA. Look at the bottom of the label of a Victor or a Bluebird 78 of the 30's and 40's and notice the "Made by RCA Manufacturing Company, Camden NJ". Why would RCA stop using a well known and trusted trademark? An exception to this were the RCA "transcription program" discs of the early 30's, which were the first 33 1/3 rpm records offered to the American public, that had the RCA "meatball" and omitted both the Victor and Nipper trademarks. The RCA meatball did finally appear on both Victor and Bluebird 78s in 1943. Victor and Bluebird were finally supplanted in 1946 by the RCA Victor label, keeping Nipper and the wording "His Master's Voice". As for the the Capitol side of things, Capitol started back in 1942 and wasn't a part of EMI, until purchased by EMI in 1955. The Capitol trademark of the Capitol building in D.C. is still a well known and respected trademark in its own right.
