Vinyl Album
Elvis Presley - Pot Luck (1962)
Very much a mixed bag collection, the dearth of decent songs available at the time meant that some of the tracks on this album would never have seen the light of day in normal circumstances.

Kiss Me Quick was lifted off the album and released as a single in Dec 1963 but failed to make the top ten.

The Rolling Stones - The Rolling Stones No. 2 (2010)
Noticed that the controversial blind man text on the rear sleeve has been reinstated for this release.

This was censored and ultimately removed by Decca on reissued versions in the 1960s and later on into the 1970s.

The orange label issue dates from 1975. I picked up a pristine copy just the other week.

Elvis Presley - Harem Holiday (1966)
This soundtrack album goes by two different titles, depending which country it was released in- Harum Scarum & Harem Holiday.

The release date seems to fluctuate between Dec 65 and Jan 66, again this is dependent on the country of origin.

The film looks to have retained the Harum Scarum title with no variations.

The Beach Boys - Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) (1966)
A UK release date of 1966 is correct for this album, It falls between Pet Sounds and Best of The Beach Boys in UK release order.

The album itself was recorded/released in the USA about one year earlier (1965) than it was in the UK but for some reason it was subsequently held back even though it had already been allocated a catalogue number in the UK : T2354.

It went on to reach number 4 in the UK album charts, probably on the strength of its predecessor Pet Sounds.

Beach Boys - Beach Boys Greatest Hits (1970)
The infamous "re-processed stereo" rears its' ugly head here, which is a shame because there would have been nothing wrong with just using the original mono versions.

Besides which, most record players in use at that time didn't have the capability to play in stereo.

The Beach Boys - The Best Of The Beach Boys (1966)
Added first UK pressing (Nov 66) rainbow label showing Capitol symbol left of centre. This pre-dates the later rainbow pressing uploaded by Quadpoint.

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (1966)
The rainbow Capitol label from 1960s is one of those classic "must-haves" for vinyl collectors, along the lines of black/yellow Parlophone for instance.

Its good to see the original with the "Capitol" symbol on the side as well as the one with the symbol at the top from a couple of years later.

The rainbow label has now been revived on all new releases of the album on vinyl as well as on CD.

Vinyl Album
Elvis Presley - The Best Of Elvis (1979)
Discogs have it listed as an"Unofficial" release made in the USA 1984

As others have pointed out it is a replica of the 1957 British original and no doubt will make the odd appearance at Record Fairs with unscrupulous dealers trying to pass it off as the genuine article.

Buyer beware !

Elvis Presley - The Best Of Elvis (1957)
Despite only having 10 tracks this hard to find album is much such sought after by Elvis collectors.

Anything from the short time that Elvis' UK records were relesed on the HMV is collectable as far as the fans are concerned, ranging from Shellac 78s to LPs like this one and the high prices paid reflect the demand for original copies.

All of the songs on this compilation will be have been duplicated on RCA but it is this 10 inch HMV plum label LP with the uninspiring cover that the collectors want.

Elvis Presley - How Great Thou Art (1967)
The two outstanding tracks on this album are Where No One Stands Alone and the title track How Great Thou Art which was performed by Elvis in concert in the latter part of his career.

The Beatles - 1 (2000)

Vinyl Album
Elvis Presley - Roustabout (1981)
This is the same as Roustabout from 1977 (PL 43625). The only difference is the sticker glued to the top left corner of the cover. It reads "RCA International" and the reverse "RCA International INTS 5110 (NL 43625) Cassette INTK 5110". Labels are exactly the same as Elvis Presley - Roustabout PL 43625 and the sleeve is the same as 1977. Matrix also responds to a previous release. Probably the previous vinyl copies had been surplus stock and put on sale later with a new INTS release number at a budget price.

Vinyl Album
Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells A Story (1971)
Added black label variants listing both "Amazing Grace" Side One track 3b, and "Henry" Side 2 track 0. The rear sleeve for this issue still only lists 8 tracks. There must have been copyright problems with this album more or less as soon as it came out- presumably tight-fisted Stewart didn't want to give up on any royalties.

Cliff Richard And The Shadows - Summer Holiday (1963)
Not many households would have had had the equipment to play stereo LP's in the early '60s, especially teenagers who would have made up the vast majority of buyers for this particular soundtrack record.

The mono version on 33SX 1472 would have sold a lot more copies at the time.

The Hollies - Evolution (1967)
A good album but someone at EMI made a monumental error when they decided to release it on the same day as Sgt. Pepper. At least two or three of the tracks could have easily made it to the top ten singles chart.

The Rolling Stones - Out Of Our Heads (1965)
Added the original 1965 un-boxed Decca labels. The boxed Decca labels did not appear until 1970's pressings.

Vinyl Album
Paul And Linda McCartney - Ram (1971)
Everything about this release suggests that it was manufactured in the UK for export only and the release date might even have been post-1971.

In 1971 all four ex-Beatles were still contracted to Apple/EMI and this continued to be the case until 1976. Some singles and albums, particularly those from Paul were released in the UK on Capitol from 1975 onwards but they were still under the EMI umbrella.

I very much doubt that this record was ever offered for sale as new in UK outlets but anyone who actually owns or indeed bought one when it first came out might be able to shed some light on the matter.

Cliff Richard - The Young Ones (1961)
The version of The Young Ones featured here is the one without the orchestral overdubbing by Norrie Paramor which was added later for the 45 rpm single release.

Vinyl Album
The Shadows - Out Of The Shadows (1962)
This would be the final Shadows mono album to be released with the all-green Columbia label.

By the time of their next album in 1963, the labels had changed to the more familiar black.

The Rolling Stones - The Rolling Stones (1964)
You have to be prepared to part with a decent amount of cash to get a very good copy of the unboxed Decca variant of this album that also comes in a good, clean sleeve.

To say that they were abused is an understatement- Beatles and Elvis albums all suffered the same way back in the 60's.
