I thought New York City Cops was pulled from the track listing.

The Strokes - Is This It
When I got my album at Rough Trade retail shop they supplied a Strokes poly bag to put it in, though I suspect that they would have given a Strokes poly bag for any purchase around that time - even if it wasn't by The Strokes.

Devo - Live
Very rare official promo for radio airplay, possibly less than 500 copies.
I think that 6 of the tracks may be the same ones on the "Devo Live" mini LP that came out around the same time.
The later Target DVD/CD "Live 1980" concert is of the day after (17 August 1980 Phoenix Theatre, Petaluma), though that one includes more tracks.

Strange to see that the Virgin flimsy-wrap flexi was included, though I've never been tempted to buy this compilation.

Some pressings have a totally different back cover which is just the song titles in a variety of wacky typefaces, and comes with insert, (also the sleeve had the 2 different colour combinations).

Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
Gerald (Jerry) Casale did a stint in The Numbers Band as drummer then as a bass player [page 57 "We Are Devo" book], but was kicked out of the band when he put on one of his favourite masks during a gig.
Mark Mothersbaugh once played in a band called Flossy Bobbit.
Alan Myers had played loosely in bands including Tin Huey, and one called Jazz Death [page 114 "We Are Devo" book], and he knew Bob Mothersbaugh.

I had the LP on an orange or orange-red vinyl, but it sounded poor so I replaced it with the later black vinyl pressing.

When Virgin started their budget pressings this LP was given the cat number OVED 1, which spelt backwards seems like too much of a coincidence.

The Wicker Man - Warner Home Video
I'd agree that the additional 15 minutes doesn't seem to enrich the film that much, despite what we had been led to believe for many years, my vote is for the theatrical version.
The story of how they recovered the lost film isn't that remarkable, the astonishing thing really is why it took them so long to track it down. Basically when the film was originally edited a print was sent for approval and a second print was handed over to the American distributor so they could see. The UK print didn't meet with approval and so the film was re-edited, resulting in the theatrical edit, and a very unhappy director bemoaning his ruined masterpiece (as they do). Many years passed and this 'legend of the lost masterpiece' took hold until eventually a researcher just happened to look through the paperwork and realised that a print was with the American distributor, turning up in Roger Corman's archive.

Tyrannosaurus Rex - Prophets, Seers & Sages, The Angels Of The Ages
Just how frustrating the task is, of getting Tyrannosaurus Rex on CD. I was in Fopp the other week, just browsing, and I happened to remember that T.R. had been on my wish-list for a very long time and noted that I had read about some relatively recent, (a few years ago), 'deluxe releases' which seemed worthy of investigation. However I also remembered that previous explorations over the years had proved fruitless, - that the reissues were somewhat troubling, - at least enough to prevent a purchase. And so it was yet again, another pass.
OK, I'm not someone who normally buys a CD if I have the music on vinyl, the music would have to be extra special to me, or there has to be an incentive for buying the album again - such as extra tracks. I own all of the Tyrannosaurus Rex LPs, 3 in stereo and 2 in mono, the 'Prophets' LP is the duplicate and the mono version is flat and lifeless in comparison to the stereo version, so naturally I want the stereo CD versions. And I would like some extra tracks please. Well, it seems like the choices on CD are [going on oldest first]: 1) stereo, dubbed off vinyl, no extra tracks. 2) stereo and mono versions together, one or two extra tracks maybe mono only 3) 'bulky' deluxe 2CD package, remastered mono only, Peel sessions and unfinished/alternative takes 4) various dodgy-looking CDs of unknown origin lacking mono/stereo indicators, 5) budget straight reissues and 2-fers also not indicating mono/stereo.
Yes, there is a large selection to choose from but they all seem botched to me. Is there not a CD that has the original stereo LP remastered & includes relevant singles and maybe include any properly finished (but unissued) tracks. Radio sessions etc are usually best kept separate.

Tyrannosaurus Rex - My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair... But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows
We certainly have been paying for the same things over and over after Marc's tragic death. However search around for 20th Century Boy - a wonderful triple LP of all the rarities and non-LP songs which was released in Australia in the 1980s and that covers every rarity released in Marc's lifetime. Some of us lucky people managed to get hold of a copy on import.

The Kinks - The Kink Kontroversy
Hmm, I'd say possibly not the original first issue labels. I have the stereo copy of this LP and it has the old style Pye design, logo on the left of the label.
Even though I have the earlier label design I wouldn't like to state that it is a first issue since, being this is The Kinks, the initial pressing run would have been massive to meet the expected demand.

This was a TV movie and includes Gary Oldman in one of his earliest roles as the bullying friend in high places. Full of witty lines and 'embarrassing situation' humour, here is the first 10 minutes of it:

Phantom Lady (1944)
Review
This film is often pigeon-holed as a film noir due to it's moody atmospheric lighting and sets, but it is actually more of a reasonable murder mystery. The film gets off to a good start with an inspired flip to the well-trodden amnesia plot; here we see the murder suspect accompanied by a mysterious lady out on the town on the actual night, and the next day he can recall his steps in exact detail to the police, but all of his many witnesses deny seeing him and his companion, leaving him no alibi but for the mysterious lady who has since vanished without a trace. After his court case he ends up waiting on death row leaving his secretary to do the detective work aided by the police inspector at the end of the phone. The ending is also good with a suspenseful 20 minutes worthy of Hitchcock, but alas the enjoyment is somewhat tempered by a huge plot hole - which is the second murder (think about it) - Now if this was a Hitchcock film I am sure the master would have changed things around to keep the secretary oblivious to the fact and hence in constant danger while the police race to close the net on the real killer. So a reasonable murder mystery let down by a sloppy mistake in the plot.

Sleeper (1973)
One of my favourite Woody Allen films. The premise of the story allows for some great sight gags and Allen is on top form with a relentless barrage of witty lines raging against the 1970s plastic society from which he has awoken:
“What’s it like to be dead for 200 years?”
“It’s like a weekend in Beverly Hills”

At my old work place we had a special book-scanner which scanned right up close to the edge, meaning you didn't need to flatten the book (it just hung over the side).
Alas I don't have this box set, and anyhow the old work place got closed down through Tory cuts :(

Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band - The Legendary A&M Sessions
When looking at these kinds of releases I think the first step clearly must be one to decide whether it is a single or not a single, and generally if it is a single then there is a lead track being pushed. In this case the purpose of this CD is stated as "The Legendary A&M Sessions" with none of the tracks being pushed above any other, so we can conclude it is not a single. The original retail price would be another indicator.
The idea of maxi-singles, mini-LPs etc seems to be a hangover from the days of vinyl when mini-LPs often got pressed onto 10" vinyl playing at 33, and maxi-singles were usually 4 track EPs playing at 45 and generally held songs that were past their sell-by date, or were misfits - neither single or album material. When the disco age came along so did the idea of putting a single onto a 12" format for a louder and better defined sound, and unfortunately messed things up with notions on physical formats.
Personally I would like CDs to be categorised as either as a single or an album, and that's it. People may have forgotten but when CDs were originally produced there were actually 2 size formats to distinguish between a single and an album and the tray on your CD player had an indentation to accommodate the smaller discs.
If we are going to have a CD mini-album then why not have a CD bloati-album to describe those releases that include surplus bonus tracks tacked onto the end. The length of the album seems to me to be irrelevant, this release is currently categorised as a CD Album and that's good with me - it also makes things easier when looking through collections.

Various Artists - Too Late, Too Late Volume 1
Document set themselves an unenviable task of releasing 'complete recordings CDs' from very early recording artists such as Blind Lemon Jefferson, because in those days if a record was popular, but the master was worn out, then the record company just got the artist back into the studio to re-record the song. Hence numerous alternative versions with fluffed/forgotten lyrics and such.
This CD, if I can remember correctly, is the result of collectors around the world feeding back to Document to say they had an alternative version on their particular copy of a 78.

Although Document seemed to exist as a sort of grey market/semi-bootleg operation they did produce excellent CDs without the dreaded noise-reduction that spoils many official releases. Document gave you the scratches, hiss and wear from the actual pressing and the original CDs were originally properly manufactured and had notes. Sadly I have to say that recent CDs I have bought come on CDr and have cheap insert slips.

Tindersticks - Amsterdam February 94
This is a great early live concert by Tindersticks.
Unfortunately it was manufactured by PDO during their disastrous 'silver plated' phase, which means that the CD will tarnish and eventually become unplayable. The same fate happened to original copies of Tindersticks first album on CD.

Elvis Presley - Rock 'N' Roll
There are 5 substitutions to tracks on the UK release, 3 were added from his Sun singles which hadn't had a UK release.
There is a CD reissue that gathers most of the tracks - the USA sequencing and a few singles - but it doesn't include the Sun sides on the UK LP.
I did read somewhere that Elvis expressed that he was unhappy with his first LP (American version), in so much as it was a rush release and some tracks he didn't consider 'right' for the LP [he hadn't had much time in the RCA studios and 5 tracks RCA used were actually old unissued Sun recordings].

Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band - Strictly Personal
I should have stated in the notes that this particular issue is stereo, they also did a rare mono pressing.... I know this because I've just found a couple in my stashed pile, I also have a UK stereo pressing that strangely comes in an original Blue Thumb USA sleeve with a Liberty sticker over the Blue Thumb cat number (and its in astonishingly great condition). You will have to wait for the scans though as the scanner has been packed away and I'm too busy now with other things.
