PhilMH SUBS 19th Jul 2021 | | CD AlbumNorah Jones - Come Away With Me | Greg, may I ask where and how you bought this, i.e. was it new or used? I just wonder if it's another mismatch situation where a used record store has inserted the disc into the wrong case. Also, I assume you bought it in the UK, so I wonder how a NZ pressing ended up there? It's hard to imagine any of the major record companies in the UK & Europe having to source copies from NZ when there were still plenty of factories in their part of the world in 2002, so maybe someone bought a disc in NZ, then moved (or returned?) to the UK, and subsequently sold the disc? There is an outside possibility that the whole package and disc is a complete New Zealand release - I think I have a couple of discs that are in ostensibly European packages, but the discs are Australian made, and bought new in Australia; I just need to remember what they are!

PhilMH SUBS 16th Jul 2021 | | Cassette AlbumLouis Armstrong - Armstrong Chante The Good Book Vol. 21 | Looking at the actual tape, the label should be MCA, as it was on the LP equivalent which Discogs dates as 1978; the (P) 1971 on the tape and the J-card appears to come from a previous reissue which was distributed by C.E.D. rather than C.P.F. Barclay.

PhilMH SUBS 14th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumNina Simone - Silk & Soul | In Discogs, the first UK mono issue was on the black & silver label, made by Decca, whereas this orange copy is RCA Ltd. Looking at the UK RCA Victor singles in 45cat, it looks like Decca had the label up to the end of 1968, then RCA Ltd. took over with the orange label in January 1969. I would still leave this entry as 1968, though, because the catalogue number stayed the same after the move.

PhilMH SUBS 14th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumNina Simone - Silk & Soul | Just a swap/mismatch, I think - mono copies in Discogs have the mono number on the sleeves.
PhilMH SUBS 14th Jul 2021 | | Classical ItemVienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt - Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2 | Added release month of March, as given in Decca's 1974 and 1975 main catalogues in my possession.
PhilMH SUBS 12th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumCarly Simon - The Best Of Carly Simon | Just remembered my old issues of Melody Maker - issue dated December 20, 1975 has a full-page ad for this, with this catalogue number, placed by EMI & Elektra, so definitely a 1975 release, we now just need the date code from the back cover to confirm the month.
PhilMH SUBS 12th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumCarly Simon - The Best Of Carly Simon | The EMI Records Ltd company credit on the back cover and label circumference means that this is much earlier than November 1976, and probably should be November 1975. Elektra changed its UK distribution from WEA to EMI in 1973 following David Geffen's elevation to presidency of the combined Elektra/Asylum/Nonesuch Records, EMI being Asylum's UK distributor at that point; that arrangement lasted until the beginning of 1976 when both Elektra and Asylum moved back to the WEA fold. It looks like there's a 4-digit date code in the bottom right-corner of the back cover, but I can't make it out here, nor on the Discogs entry.
PhilMH SUBS 12th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumCarly Simon - The Best Of Carly Simon | Revisiting my previous comment about the matrix numbers - there are two Queen albums (SHEER HEART ATTACK and A NIGHT AT THE OPERA) either side of this album in the Oz Elektra discography on this site, and the matrix numbers for this LP sits in between the matrices for those two, so I would say that "I've Got to Have You" was always part of the Australian release. Wasn't so hard after all!
PhilMH SUBS 11th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJoe Henderson [Jazz] - Page One | Maybe even 1963 - that's when the album was first released, at least in mono, and Discogs has a stereo copy with this catalogue number dated 1963, with no mention of Liberty, who bought the label in 1965, so first stereo version was definitely pre-1965 at any rate (Billboard's original 1963 review only shows the mono number).
PhilMH SUBS 11th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumLinda Ronstadt - Greatest Hits | Yes, 1977 reissue because of the 6E catalogue number prefix, which signified (in the US) a retail price of $7.98, whereas (confusingly!), the previous 7E prefix indicated $6.98, and the subsequent 5E prefix indicated $8.98! All the US WEA labels made their topline price $7.98 in 1977, Atlantic renumbering many releases (though still retaining their previous alpha prefixes), and Warner/Reprise adding a K to their prefix to give BSK (though I don't remember them changing any numbers).
PhilMH SUBS 8th Jul 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBobby Darin - Darin 1936-1973 | Not 1974; Motown was still handled by Pathe Marconi EMI then (on the Tamla Motown label), this Motown label design didn't come into use until 1976, Vogue didn't get the distribution rights until 1978, and these "Original Series" issues are circa 1981/1982, coinciding with the US mid-price reissues in the M5-xxxV1 & 5xxxML series.
PhilMH SUBS 3rd Jul 2021 | | CD AlbumMelanie - Candles In The Rain | Some versions of the original LP in 1970/71 left out "Alexander Beetle" as well; I wonder if there was a legal issue regarding the use of A.A. Milne's poem, but I haven't been able to find out anything about this yet.
PhilMH SUBS 28th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBig Tom And The Mainliners - I'll Settle For Old Ireland | Decca's 1975 main catalogue says December 1973; this wasn't listed in the 1974 catalogue, which only lists releases up to GES 1096 (July 1973).

PhilMH SUBS 27th Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumJoe Williams - Me And The Blues / The Song Is You | Hi guys, by my reckoning 8 of the 43 "appearances" under Joe Williams are actually Big Joe, notably the Columbia/Sony "Roots and Blues" issues, as well as some of the indy label issues like Charly and Excelsior. Changing them to "Joe Williams [Big Joe Williams]" and linking them to Big Joe's discography would be the way to go, I think. After posting this, I'll comment on each of those 8 so that you can see them.
PhilMH SUBS 25th Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumJoe Williams - Me And The Blues / The Song Is You | No, MM, this is Joe Williams (1918-1999) the jazz singer, famous for his work with Count Basie. Big Joe Williams (1903-1982) was a Delta Blues guitarist and singer.
PhilMH SUBS 11th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - The BluesWay Sampler | The label name is just BluesWay, not BluesWay ABC, see the equivalent US and Japan label listings. The ABC logo is just a corporate "tag" to indicate their ownership, in a similar way to the EMI logo appearing with all that company's label logos, and is not part of the label name, so the two Canadian entries need to be corrected.

PhilMH SUBS 10th Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumMarty Robbins - The Essential Marty Robbins 1951-1982 | I had previously asked for this to be made International, but that wasn't done. However, looking at the details on Kevin's original copy, and on mine (which slightly differs) in the light of the CBS/Sony Haarlem codes found on Discogs, the case for International is now stronger. Kevin's shows 02-468909-10 on the back insert, the 02 signifying "International Nice Price (since 1982)" according to the Discogs list; my rear insert (not yet uploaded ) has the same code except with 01 prefix, for "international product".
PhilMH SUBS 10th Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumMarvin Gaye - Midnight Love | Revisiting this one because of the discussion on this Santana disc. This shows the code 01-085977-10 on the back insert and booklet, the 01 prefix suggesting an International release according to the list at Discogs, so time to change the country here to International, I think.
PhilMH SUBS 8th Jun 2021 | | CD AlbumSantana - Moonflower | I think these codes also appear on discs where the inserts are printed in Haarlem, but the disc itself is manufactured elsewhere, e.g. Japan, as on this Gregory Abbott CD, which I'm sure I originally entered as International, and my comment there supports that, but it is now showing Europe! Anyway, it shows a 01 prefix (back insert and back of booklet), which the Discogs list tells me is - surprise! - "International product", so could someone kindly change the country of "Europe" back to "International", please?
PhilMH SUBS 6th Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDiana Ross - Lady Sings The Blues | Probably not a 1972 release, because Canada used the Tamla Motown label until Motown Records, Canada Limited was established in 1974 (the label's distributor from 1971-74 was Ampex). Discogs' Canadian entry with this label and catalogue number shows the Motown Records, Canada Limited logo on the front cover and inner sleeves, which also show illustrations of the Anthology collections released in 1973 and 1974, so if this entry is the same as that, then the year here needs to be corrected.
PhilMH SUBS 2nd Jun 2021 | | Cassette AlbumAl Green - I'm Still In Love With You | The cassette shell shows catalogue number 5284 MC and company name Motown Record Corporation, and dates from the first issue of this version in October 1982; the insert with number MOTC-5284 and company name Motown Record Company, L.P. is from after the label's sale to MCA and Boston Ventures in June 1988.

PhilMH SUBS 1st Jun 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumDuke Ellington - The Music Of Duke Ellington Played By Duke Ellington | This site uses the first date that a label and catalogue number combination was issued; unlike Discogs, we don't use different dates for later repressings of the same catalogue number.
