stoutfellow51 4th Oct 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Roustabout | This is the same as Roustabout from 1977 (PL 43625). The only difference is the sticker glued to the top left corner of the cover. It reads "RCA International" and the reverse "RCA International INTS 5110 (NL 43625) Cassette INTK 5110". Labels are exactly the same as Elvis Presley - Roustabout PL 43625 and the sleeve is the same as 1977. Matrix also responds to a previous release. Probably the previous vinyl copies had been surplus stock and put on sale later with a new INTS release number at a budget price.

stoutfellow51 9th Aug 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumBob Dylan - The Times They Are A-Changin' | Uploaded UK First Press 1964 laminated front cover with rear flipbacks.
stoutfellow51 21st Jul 2021 | | 78 RPMRuss Conway - Rule Britannia! / Royal Event | Parlophone (EMI) in the UK had already released its final Shellac 78 one month earlier in January 1960- Poor Me by Adam Faith.
stoutfellow51 27th Apr 2021 | | CD AlbumJohn Lennon And Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy | Released on Johns' 60th birthday.
stoutfellow51 2nd Feb 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumRod Stewart - Every Picture Tells A Story | Added black label variants listing both "Amazing Grace" Side One track 3b, and "Henry" Side 2 track 0. The rear sleeve for this issue still only lists 8 tracks. There must have been copyright problems with this album more or less as soon as it came out- presumably tight-fisted Stewart didn't want to give up on any royalties.

stoutfellow51 9th Jan 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Chordettes - Mr. Sandman / I Don't Wanna See You Cryin' | [YouTube Video]
stoutfellow51 1st Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumCliff Richard And The Shadows - Summer Holiday | Not many households would have had had the equipment to play stereo LP's in the early '60s, especially teenagers who would have made up the vast majority of buyers for this particular soundtrack record.
The mono version on 33SX 1472 would have sold a lot more copies at the time.
stoutfellow51 25th Nov 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Hollies - Evolution | A good album but someone at EMI made a monumental error when they decided to release it on the same day as Sgt. Pepper. At least two or three of the tracks could have easily made it to the top ten singles chart.
stoutfellow51 30th Jul 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Rolling Stones - Out Of Our Heads | Added the original 1965 un-boxed Decca labels. The boxed Decca labels did not appear until 1970's pressings.
stoutfellow51 2nd Apr 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul And Linda McCartney - Ram | Everything about this release suggests that it was manufactured in the UK for export only and the release date might even have been post-1971.
In 1971 all four ex-Beatles were still contracted to Apple/EMI and this continued to be the case until 1976. Some singles and albums, particularly those from Paul were released in the UK on Capitol from 1975 onwards but they were still under the EMI umbrella.
I very much doubt that this record was ever offered for sale as new in UK outlets but anyone who actually owns or indeed bought one when it first came out might be able to shed some light on the matter.
stoutfellow51 12th Mar 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumCliff Richard - The Young Ones | The version of The Young Ones featured here is the one without the orchestral overdubbing by Norrie Paramor which was added later for the 45 rpm single release.
stoutfellow51 3rd Mar 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Shadows - Out Of The Shadows | This would be the final Shadows mono album to be released with the all-green Columbia label.
By the time of their next album in 1963, the labels had changed to the more familiar black.
stoutfellow51 9th Feb 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Rolling Stones - The Rolling Stones | You have to be prepared to part with a decent amount of cash to get a very good copy of the unboxed Decca variant of this album that also comes in a good, clean sleeve.
To say that they were abused is an understatement- Beatles and Elvis albums all suffered the same way back in the 60's.
stoutfellow51 27th Jan 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumSimon And Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water | Fifty years old this month and timeless. Just picked up a very good 1970 original for only £3, bargain.
stoutfellow51 14th Aug 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour | Well spotted Lee, Baby You're A Rich Man is definitely a Lennon & McCartney composition.
The original 1967 US Capitol release has the correct composers credit, as does the 1976 UK Parlophone version.
In the early 70's the Apple label was used for USA reissues of the album but it's good to see the iconic Capitol 1960's label being reinstated for this release.
stoutfellow51 14th Aug 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour | This album with 11 tracks was based on the Magical Mystery Tour USA release and had not been issued in the UK prior to 1976.
In 1967 the UK version of MMT consisted of two 7" EP's in a picture sleeve featuring only the six songs from the film soundtrack.
In the US however they opted for an 11 track album from the outset in 1967 with a different sleeve to the UK EP release. The US album had all six movie tracks on side one with five non-movie songs that had been released as singles at various times in 1967 on side two.
Prior to 1976 UK-based Beatles fans who wanted the album version of MMT were able to get it as an import.

stoutfellow51 29th Jun 2019 | | 78 RPMLonnie Donegan And His Skiffle Group - Putting On The Style / Gamblin' Man | I wonder what damage those 78 rpm steel needles would have done to the vinyl pressings of this and others by the same manufacturer (Pye Group). My copy btw is vinyl as is my 78 copy of The Diamonds Little Darlin' on Mercury.
stoutfellow51 20th Mar 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumBob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde | The release date given in Wikipedia is June 20 1966 but the article does not clarify whether that date was worldwide or just in the USA.
It made it's first appearance in the UK album charts on 20 August 1966 so an early August UK release date seems to be the most likely scenario.
stoutfellow51 20th Jan 2019 | | Vinyl AlbumCliff Richard - Cliff's Hit Album | The Drifters and The Shadows are in fact the same group,(Hank, Bruce etc.) had to change their name along the way so as to avoid confusion with the American vocal group The Drifters.
stoutfellow51 20th Jan 2019 | | 78 RPMThe Diamonds - Faithful And True / Little Darlin' | This is the first 78 I have come across made from vinyl as opposed to shellac. I wonder what damage would have been done to them with steel single use needles.
stoutfellow51 26th Nov 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Beatles For Sale | Bloody hell Getalife, yes it does.
A typo. error that most people, including me, would never have noticed.
There is something about the packaging and overall handling, playing etc. of an LP which makes it just that bit more satisfying than a CD. The advantage of course with the CD as opposed to vinyl is in its unblemished and scratch-free sound.
stoutfellow51 26th Nov 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Beatles For Sale | Contrary to what a lot of Beatles fans and critics might say this is one of my favourites, certainly in the Beatlemania era prior to Revolver.
The one obligatory Ringo song (Honey Don't) is a lot better than I Wanna Be Your Man for instance and the likes of Eight Days A Week and I'm A Loser were both at one time contenders for single release.
Decades after having a pristine brand new release way back in 1964 I have just managed to track down a very good copy of the exact same Mono first issue today for the princely sum of £13 - nostalgia knows no bounds, even in the digital age.

stoutfellow51 4th Sep 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - The Best Of The Beach Boys | One of the best compilation albums that one is ever likely to come across, on a par with any Greatest Hits LP's from The Beatles, Elvis etc.
No filler tracks at all and a worthy addition to any record collection.
stoutfellow51 1st Sep 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Roustabout | Only 11 tracks with a total running time of just 20 minutes. It only featured in the album charts for 4 weeks and came out so late in the year that it missed out on the lucrative 1964 Christmas market.
None of the songs on the album were considered strong enough for single release so RCA came up with the 1957 seasonal offering of Blue Christmas instead.
stoutfellow51 8th Jul 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Loving You | Added E/T tax code labels- 1959/60 release.
stoutfellow51 13th Feb 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - California Holiday | A1 to B3 are from the movie, tracks B4 B5 B6 are all bonus tracks.
stoutfellow51 13th Feb 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Paradise, Hawaiian Style | Ten tracks with a total running time of 22 minutes didn't seem like good value for a full price LP.
Drums of The Islands & This Is My Heaven are both passable but the rest are pretty much staid movie product.
stoutfellow51 31st Jan 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beach Boys - The Best Of The Beach Boys | The black label with the rainbow rim by Quad5point1 is from the second issue. Later versions came in a variety of designs ranging from yellow, purple, black etc.
stoutfellow51 28th Jan 2018 | | Vinyl AlbumCliff Richard With The Shadows - Wonderful Life | This release is unusual in having the track listing and movie stills etc. printed on the inside record liner/sleeve.
This might have become commonplace in the 70's and 80's but it was still a rarity in the 60's.
stoutfellow51 21st Dec 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis' Christmas Album | Not to be confused with the original 1957 RCA release of Elvis' Christmas Album- different track listings for a start.
