SeverlyWarpedRecord 10th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMCab Calloway - Minnie The Moocher (The Ho De Ho Song) / Doin' The Rumba (1931) | Did cab Calloways records not sell very well in Canada? I’ve been looking for this record for almost 5 years and I’ve only ever seen 1 record by him. Even Canadian copies of his bigger hits from the 40s never seem to pop up on ebay
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMJoe Bari And Pat Easton - Vieni Qui (Come To Me) / Fascinating Rhythm (1949) | Is Tony Bennett really that collectable? Like I love his music and find it fascinating that he’s still alive in 2023, but I never thought of him as an icon with records worth $1000s
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMJoe Bari And Pat Easton - Vieni Qui (Come To Me) / Fascinating Rhythm (1949) | The Simon in the writing credits is George T Simon, who was the drummer in Glenn Miller’s band. He actually mentioned this record in his book ‘Simon Says’, during an interview with Tony Bennett. Apparently both of them didn’t like the record and thought someone else should have sung it.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 7th Feb 2023 | | 78 RPMRudy Vallée And His Connecticut Yankees - Whiffenpoof Song / Mad Dogs And Englishmen (1937) | My copies from the late 1940s. This record probably was released on all 3 Bluebird labels, with first pressings being the blue and white label, and second being the normal Bluebird.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 24th Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMTed Weems - Heartaches / Oh! Monah (1946) | According to George Simon, this version of heartaches sold 3x more copies than the Victor version. Ted Weems said in his interview with George Simon that this record becoming a hit again was pretty bittersweet. When he recorded this song with Decca, his band wasn’t the big money maker it was in the 1920s so he was getting paid to record without royalties. Because of this he got pissed when the Decca version because a bigger hit than the Victor one (he was signed to Victor in 1947), and on top of that he and Victor's producers were kinda lost on what the follow-up record should be.

SeverlyWarpedRecord 16th Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMRay Noble - From Oakland To Burbank / Harlem Nocturne (1940) | Has anyone ever seen this record? I want it really bad but it seems super rare
SeverlyWarpedRecord 9th Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMDion And The Belmonts - Don't Pity Me / Just You (1959) | I only added the buy it now price because it did sell for that much.
Also was where or when really released on a 78? If it’s serial number was #8445 than it would be after Marina by rocco Granata which is the confirmed last Reo 78
SeverlyWarpedRecord 8th Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMDion And The Belmonts - Don't Pity Me / Just You (1959) | I got really lucky getting this record for $5 today. Idk how many Dion 78s were released in Canada but they’re very rare
SeverlyWarpedRecord 4th Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMArt Hodes And His Chicagoans - Doctor Jazz / Shoe Shiner's Drag (1944) | I know this is in an older jazz style, but damn I never thought Ray Conniff would’ve been on Blue Note.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 3rd Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMGlenn Miller - Sunrise Serenade / Moonlight Serenade (1939) | Ah thanks! I thought he stayed with the band longer than that. From what I’ve read in George simons book on big bands, it doesn’t seem like Glenn Miller got along with his band members…
SeverlyWarpedRecord 1st Jan 2023 | | 78 RPMGlenn Miller - Sunrise Serenade / Moonlight Serenade (1939) | Who played on the original version of Moonlight Serenade? I’m trying to figure out which Glenn Miller records had George T Simon on them
SeverlyWarpedRecord 11th Dec 2022 | | 78 RPMBing Crosby - Merry Christmas (1945) | So what’s the difference between this and Decca A-550? They both have the exact same cover and tracks, just that this version has 1 more record. I did notice though that this one uses the older WW2 era Decca label, but they’re both listed as being from the same year here and on discogs…
SeverlyWarpedRecord 20th Nov 2022 | | 78 RPMWynonie Harris - Good Rockin' Tonight / Good Morning Mr. Blues (1952) | I honestly have no idea when this record was released. It has a mid 50s serial number but I know it came out originally in the 1940s
SeverlyWarpedRecord 11th Nov 2022 | | 78 RPMCole Porter - Two Little Babes In The Wood / Anything Goes (1934) | Was this record the only recording of Cole Porter singing?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 4th Jan 2022 | | 78 RPMFrankie Laine - That Lucky Old Sun / I Get Sentimental Over Nothing (1949) | The B-side should have been a hit, it’s one of my favourites by Frankie Laine
SeverlyWarpedRecord 2nd Dec 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Voxpoppers - Wishing For Your Love / The Last Drag (1958) | I’d love to find a copy of this eventually. The image is from the copy sitting in the jukebox at Half Moon in Lockport Manitoba, just outside of Winnipeg. They have a broken 1938 78 jukebox with all the original records and this record is just sitting on the platter of the jukebox like it’s nothing
SeverlyWarpedRecord 12th Nov 2021 | | 78 RPMBill Haley - Dance With A Dolly (With A Hole In Her Stockin') / Rockin' Chair On The Moon (1952) | I know this is an old comment, but Billy Ward and The Dominos ‘Sixity Minuteman’ came out in 1951 and was released in Canada. Id consider that record the first rock record released in Canada
SeverlyWarpedRecord 3rd Nov 2021 | | 78 RPMWynonie Harris - Good Rockin' Tonight / Good Morning Mr. Blues (1948) | I have a later pressing of this on Quality King. I’ll add it soon. I believe this Maple Leaf label was Kings first attempt at a Canadian distribution label before they made Quality
SeverlyWarpedRecord 31st Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Hilltoppers - I'd Rather Die Young (Than Grow Old Without You) / P.S. I Love You (1953) | Billy Vaughan started as a singer and pianist in The Hilltoppers. I think he left the group in like 1956 or 1957 though and became the big saxophone guy known for Wheels, Sail Along The Silvery Moon, and Raunchy.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 31st Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMOlga Bibor's Gypsy Orchestra - Stephanie Gavotte / Don't Be Cross (1919) | I’m sorry for this mistake, but how do you tell a Canadian Columbia from an American Columbia?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 19th Aug 2021 | | 78 RPMRitchie Valens - We Belong Together / Little Girl (1959) | Did the memorial series issue get a release on 78?
SeverlyWarpedRecord 22nd Jun 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Four Tunes - Marie / I Gambled With Love (1953) | Are there any radio charts from when this record was released? It’s probably one of the most common 78s and it seems to have been a bigger hit in Canada.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 22nd May 2021 | | 78 RPMJack Scott - My True Love / Leroy (1958) | I found the record like that at a charity sale.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 1st May 2021 | | 78 RPMArtie Shaw - Star Dust / Temptation (1941) | I have a later pressing of this record on just the RCA Victor label.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 4th Mar 2021 | | 78 RPMTeddy Wilson And Billie Holiday - I Must Have That Man! / Fooling' Myself (1941) | From the Columbia album A26, “Hot Jazz Classics” by Teddy Wilson.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 3rd Mar 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Hollywood Hucksters - I Apologize / Happy Blues (1950) | I was very surprised when I found out the B side had a vocal duet by Benny Goodman and Stan Kenton.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 3rd Mar 2021 | | 78 RPMCharlie Barnet - Redskin Rhumba / Southern Fried (1945) | Anybody know when this was released? I know it is a reissue because the original would be on the straight Bluebird label.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 19th Feb 2021 | | 78 RPMJim Reeves - Young Hearts / Two Shadows On Your Window (1957) | The A side is great, one of the few doo wop records Jim Reeves did.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 11th Feb 2021 | | 78 RPMJack Scott - My True Love / Leroy (1958) | Added my copy with a not so boring label.
SeverlyWarpedRecord 9th Feb 2021 | | 78 RPMThe Fidelity's - The Things I Love / Hold On To What'cha Got (And Get One More) (1958) | The b side sounds a lot like Dee Clark
