TopPopper 26th May 2018 | | 78 RPMThe Beatles - Can't Buy Me Love / You Can't Do That (1964) | Improved images added
TopPopper 30th Mar 2018 | | 78 RPMJanet Eden - Come Go With Me / Walkin After Midnight (1957) | Beatles fans will know of "Come Go With Me" - John Lennon was playing it on stage with his band, The Quarrymen, when Paul McCartney first saw and heard him.
TopPopper 23rd Nov 2017 | | 78 RPMTexas Jim Robertson - Don't Look Now (But Your Broken Heart Is Stolen) / It Takes A Long, Long Train With A Red Caboose (To Carry My Blues Away) (1947) | Have made the new labels primary. What are the differences, by the way?
TopPopper 11th Jun 2017 | | 78 RPMBlue Barron - Let Me In / Somebody's Thinking Of You Tonight (1951) | Can anyone confirm the label name? There's a label called MGM Golden Circle. Should that be it?
TopPopper 1st Oct 2016 | | 78 RPMBilly Murray - The Grand Old Rag (1906) | I don't disagree, but the house style is to show the label. I think we should crop it and have the image with the etchings as a second image.
TopPopper 28th Sep 2016 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - [untitled] / [untitled] | I have to say, when I first obtained this disc, I checked this very site for any other entries and didn't find any. The reason of course was that I searched for "Voice Records" rather than just Voice. I think others would tend to do that too - and if they were to just search for Voice, then Voice Records would show up anyway. So what I'm trying to say is, good change!
TopPopper 26th Sep 2016 | | 78 RPMVictor Silvester And His Ballroom Orchestra - Till Then / My Heart Isn't In It (1947) | Main image could do with cropping again - it seems to include a white border, making the label appear smaller than usual.
TopPopper 26th Sep 2016 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - [untitled] / [untitled] | I thought it was better with "records" - it's part of the name really, unlike, say "Parlophone Records" or "Decca Records". The gimmick is that you can record your own voice onto disc, hence you can make a "voice record".
I'd never heard of them before - pleased to see a couple of others on the site.
TopPopper 24th Sep 2016 | | 78 RPMBilly Murray - The Grand Old Rag (1906) | Is there a reason for it to be cropped like this, with the etchings visible? If not, we can crop to the label edge.
TopPopper 24th Sep 2016 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - [untitled] / [untitled] | Hope this is OK to stay on the site. It's a curious little record I found today - aluminium playing surface! I managed to find out a little via Google, like here.
TopPopper 15th Aug 2016 | | 78 RPMMr. Albert Whelan - Why Not Nationalize The Ladies / Susan Shy Shyly Sighed (1920) | I noticed that too and I think it's probably correct - although I don't know much about these old records. As he nominates the correct performer, maybe we should change this listing?
TopPopper 15th Aug 2016 | | 78 RPMMr. Albert Whelan - Why Not Nationalize The Ladies / Susan Shy Shyly Sighed (1920) | B-side title added from this source. The site lists the two sides other way around - not sure how to tell if there's an A-side or not.
TopPopper 8th Nov 2015 | | 78 RPMBing Crosby - It's A Lonely Trail (1939) | I think the continuous note on the B side is a test signal. Some vinly LPs had them on the promo copies. The label here looks like a standard white label, so I would guess this is a promo copy.
TopPopper 6th Oct 2015 | | 78 RPMLarry Clinton - Vaya Con Dios / P.S. I Love You (1954) | very interesting to see that song title on the B side.
TopPopper 26th Aug 2015 | | 78 RPMSteve Stannard - Perfidia / Pepe (1961) | How about this one?
TopPopper 3rd Apr 2015 | | 78 RPMLarry Cross - Westward Ho The Wagons / Wringle Wrangle (1957) | Bung it on youtube and give us a link!
TopPopper 14th Feb 2015 | | CylinderNew York Military Band - Knights Of Columbus (1910) | I'm pretty sure it's a cylendar - check the label listing. If we don't get a definite reply from Scrough, I think we should go ahead and change it.
TopPopper 12th Feb 2015 | | 78 RPMRosco Gordon - Rosco's Mambo / Ain't No Use (1953) | Duplicate entry? I think this record's already listed.
[mod: merged]
TopPopper 31st Jan 2015 | | 78 RPMPhil Harris - The Dark Town Poker Club / Jelly Bean (1945) | Edited scan added.
TopPopper 31st Jan 2015 | | 78 RPMMilton Cross - The Story Of Cinderella Pt. I / The Story Of Cinderella Pt. II (1940) | I've had a go at improving the images. Thanks to SeberHusky.
TopPopper 4th Oct 2014 | | 78 RPMRobbie Williams - Millennium / Nimrod, Enigma Variations, Op. 36 (2000) | I saw a copy at Spittalfields Market yesterday. Didn't know it existed. I thought about buying it to add to the site (before I knew it was here already) but I would have felt dirty.
TopPopper 30th Aug 2014 | | 78 RPMBing Crosby - When You Dream About Hawaii / Sail Along Silv'ry Moon (1939) | Labels edited.
TopPopper 5th Aug 2014 | | 78 RPMThe Beatles - Long Tall Sally / I Call Your Name (1964) | Agreed. Changed.
TopPopper 16th Jul 2014 | | 78 RPMJascha Heifetz, Arturo Toscanini, NBC Symphony Orchestra - Beethoven Concerto In D, Op. 61 (1940) | So do two of these discs have blank B-sides? Seems odd.
TopPopper 13th Dec 2013 | | 78 RPMThe B.B.C. Symphony Orchestra - The Planets Suite, Op. 32. Records 10, 11. (1945) | Rather than being called "records" 10 and 11, shouldn't these be called something like "parts" 10 and 11? It makes it sound as if this is a two-record release. Same goes for the rest of the 78s in the suite.
TopPopper 18th Nov 2013 | | 78 RPMMarion Williams - Somebody Bad Stole De Wedding Bell / Lovin' Spree (1954) | Soundalike cover version to exploit the hits? Just what Embassy were doing in the UK around then...
TopPopper 8th Nov 2013 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - Charge De L'armée Française (1903) | Cylinders were a much better idea. Constant play speed.
TopPopper 20th Oct 2013 | | 78 RPM[no artist listed] - Unknown / Unknown (1953) | Sounds like the top two in a talent contest. Private pressing, I would think.
TopPopper 16th Jun 2013 | | 78 RPMFrank Robert - Julekort / Ola Dekksgutt Fra Flekkefjord (1953) | Do you still have them in their original state? It would be nice to see them as they look in the flesh as well.
TopPopper 11th Apr 2013 | | 78 RPMThe Top Hits Of The Month Record Club Orchestra And Vocalists - Seventeen / Hummingbird (1955) | Added - label scans and images of original packaging. This record was sold by mail order only, and photos show the original mailing box, and a section of the branded tape used on it (the printed pattern repeated along the length of the tape). Original paper sleeve is lost.
