Why is Nature no genre in books? Animals, Flowers, Landscapes, etc. can not be placed under any other genre. Science doesn't cover it, hobby doesn't. Flowers only fit Gardening when it is about gardening, not when it is about Flora.
Or we should use "Flora and fauna" as genre in stead of Nature
Thanks, suggestions for new genres are welcome. When we started Book World, we decided to limit the number of genres to keep things manageable. Our plan is to expand them when there is an obvious and urgent need. We will revisit this later.
Meanwhile you can use the Class Numbers (Dewey Decimal) to add specific categorisation.
I would hope sooner rather than later otherwise all the War and Western books being added are going to require someone going back to add the genres. I can understand not wanting to have a huge number of genres (with respect to the original poster, Nature could fall under Science), but Western and War, to name two, are standard genre terms. Philosophy is also missing; books I've uploaded I've used "Society" as a default genre and I'm not sure if that's the correct one to use.

Just so they're not forgotten, I've also previously mentioned Graphic Novels, along with Manga. Still amazingly popular in my shop (well, not during lockdown and staff furlough!)
I was just about to post a topic about this myself. A category for Animals would indeed be a helpful addition, and possibly Nature as well although it is true that could go under Science. From the available categories, I've only been able to place the animal books I've added in Non-Fiction.
Reviving this old thread (which dates back to 2019) are there any plans to add more categories? I index a lot of books and I definitely run into a lot of cases where it's hard to properly categorize. For example I have to use Art and Design for graphic novels and comic strip books so Charlie Brown and The Hulk are listed next to books on Da Vinci. And there definitely needs to be categories for Western and Military/War, at the very least as those are two major genres of fiction. One for Plays would also be good as otherwise one cannot properly categorize, say, Shakespeare or Eugene O'Neill or George Bernard Shaw books.

I've just been marking plays and graphic novels as fiction
As well as Nature, these book genres would also be useful: Western, Military, Puzzles and Games, Drama.
Modified from an earlier list of 'missing' book genres:
- Adventure
- Cartoons / Comics (includes underground comix)
- Erotic / Esoteric / Exploitation (including porn) - not to be confused with "Romance"
- Gothic
- Guides (such as field guides, movie guides, etc.)
- Historical Fiction (to avoid confusion with non-ficton 'History')
- Juvenile / Teen (distinct from 'Kids', which I view as pre-teen)
- Juvenile Delinquency
- Suspense (as distinct from 'Thriller')

Plays, yes. But Graphic Novels cover so many different genres from straight fiction to historical to sci-fi. Of course I use those as applicable but Art & Design still feels a bit broad.
Plays - Fiction of course but there is a difference between a 70-page play script and a 500-page novel. There is a Cinema category; one on Drama would be good. (And not just for the scripts, but also books on the topic of Drama.) Literature could qualify though with the exception of Shakespeare and a few others there may be those objecting to stage plays (especially recent ones) being categorized as Lit. That said, Literature is an extremely subjective category, just like I have seen 300-page books referred to as "short novels" and "novellas" because of one's subjective opinion of what constitutes a novel. I have seen some people define novel as high literature only so, say, one of George RR Martin's fantasy door stoppers does not qualify, nor would Lord of the Rings, but Dickens would. (Needless to say, novel and novella are two categories I do NOT mind excluding.)
