deepinder cheema 28th Feb 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Graham Bond Organization - The Sound Of ' 65 | I have uploaded images of Mr Bakers own copy which I had the honour of passing through my hands. Provenance was Bonhams ( from memory) in which Ginger had a clear out of items from the early 1960s onward, when you consider his chaotic life it is remarkable that they survived in his possession!

deepinder cheema 28th Feb 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumShirley Collins And Davy Graham - Folk Roots, New Routes | There was an insert with the original issue and the sleeve was not pasted down tabs as far as I have seen, however I would not rule it out as Decca did have more than one 3rd party supplying finished sleeves ( see early CBS for example) However, despite historical deviations it is a handsome and desirable object especially if Decca did this. One historic reissue I am heavily critical of was the Pink Floyd 'See Emily Play' on pink vinyl and wrong pic sleeve which was from the german issue of 1967 which made the whole edifice so wrong.

deepinder cheema 12th Dec 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPink Floyd - Animals | I have had since Oct or Nov 1980 a 2 x one sided EMI Hayes test pressing of this brutal LP. The stamped in the corner remarks is dated 14th Dec 1976 ( from memory) I bought it from 'Luigi and the boys' in Hanway St from an ad in Sounds. ( classifieds)
I have a number of EMI test pressings which I find fascinating but really I know very little about them and why they exist and the system they were part of. So if anyone wants to investigate the subject then I have a few Pink Floyd ones for further study.

deepinder cheema 12th Dec 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumPink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon | I have an EMI Hayes test pressing of this LP 2 x One sided discs. The white inner sleeve is stamped up 14th Feb 1973. The matrix marks is A2 B2. I would welcome a discussion of the reasons why and how these discs were used. The previous lacquer used to make the A1 B1 stamper it is said was defective so that was destroyed. Whether any test pressings were created and also destroyed .. I just don't know. I also have Animals test pressing 2 x One sided which has an earlier 1976 date to its release ( I think the same difference)

deepinder cheema 28th Sep 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced | I used to have a copy with rough to touch paper labels. I thought it was Orlake, but it dawned on me that it was like CBS on the old Oriole presses and that is what it was.

deepinder cheema 17th Dec 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumFocus - Moving Waves | I have hitherto not noticed the USA on the Polydor label. Is the 'stereo' under the Polydor embossed or has it a bit of white to give it a bit of a 3d effect?
|
deepinder cheema 17th Dec 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumFocus - Moving Waves | I think to be on the safe side the set of labels put up by Hawkmarty with manufactured rather than 'marketed' should be removed as I have only seen the 'manufactured' on Polydor sleeves as well as the publishing information has changed from original issue. These labels should have their own separate listing with the Polydor sleeve so making 3 UK variants.

deepinder cheema 21st Nov 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumLed Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin | Led Zeppelin was released in Jan 1969 in the USA. The sleeve was printed offset litho with I assume all 4 plates CMYK so we get the red/orange lettering. The UK sleeve was printed by MacNeil press and Led Zeppelin was released in March 1969 in the UK. I can only assume that the printers mistakenly used the Cyan and Black ( K ) plate only - which as soon as it was spotted the presses where set up with magenta and yellow plates to make good the intention of the sleeve designer or Jimmy Page. The fact that the US issue is correct and has always been suggests to me that the 'Turquoise' lettering is simply a mistake of the Cyan plate standing alone with K as discrete colours. I have not seen this mentioned in any of the vast literature about Led Zeppelin, so perhaps someone can remark on this theory which I'm endebted to albert for nudging me the hint over on 45cat website. It would be cool if a printer can test the soundness of the theory.

deepinder cheema 21st May 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumBread, Love And Dreams - The Strange Tale Of Captain Shannon And The Hunchback From Gigha | I seem to have encounterd the Mono version more than the Stereo. I think Human Beast is later - 5051? that LP has the peep hole die cut at the back, but I have only seen Stereo copies. Decca has the capacity to surprise. I just checked - it is LK / SKL 5053 so theoretically Mono releases may have been planned.

deepinder cheema 14th May 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPink Floyd - A Collection Of Great Dance Songs | I reckon other territories used card inners sans rounded corners or uncropped So could be a mix up. But I say that we need to see the whole sleeve as a perspective view to gain a sense of shape.
|
deepinder cheema 14th May 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumPink Floyd - A Collection Of Great Dance Songs | I don't think a gatefold exists. All I see is the inner card sleeve shown back and front and stitched together. It would be great if a photo of it being opened be provided.
I did see in 1982 a copy of madcap laughs with the inside of the gatefold from the Harvest Heritage 2 LPof Syd. That was a mistake by the printer

deepinder cheema 12th May 2015 | | Vinyl AlbumLed Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin [IV] | documenting Polydor plum labels is a significant task for ALL 4 LZ albums. Take the font used for LED ZEPPELIN on the label without stickers. This defines the period of late 1971, but also the already in print LZ 1 also used this larger more square font probably from this period - so watch out for sellers trying to claim such a copy of LZ 1 as 'original' an undocumented nightmare which has not seen the same work the Beatles collectors have done.

deepinder cheema 5th May 2015 | | Live MusicPink Floyd @ Queen Elizabeth Hall | In this internet age a photo of Syd has been uploaded with a Strat probably like I said at a soundcheck. I Know that David Gilmour met the band during the period so could well have lent his Strat - assuming its the same one or similar to the back of Ummagumma
I was not imagining it! Here is the evidence : Games for May rehearsal
