stoutfellow51 16th Dec 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - It Happened At The World's Fair | A pretty awful soundtrack album which unfortunately set the tone for several others in the next few years.
Only ten tracks totaling just 20 minutes running time and most of them sub-standard songs badly arranged and recorded.
In hindsight it might have been better to have just pulled off the best four tracks from the movie for an EP and not bothered with the LP at all.

stoutfellow51 8th Dec 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - A Date With Elvis | In fairness to Memphis Martin I think he was stating that it was Elvis' HMV back catalogue that was deleted in the UK, not the actual recordings themselves. That's my reading of it anyway.
'
Apparently RCA Victor in the States weren't happy with the lack of promotion given to Elvis material by HMV in Britain and did a deal with Decca for them to manufacture and distribute Elvis recordings here on the RCA label under license instead.
The deal allowed Decca to release all of Elvis' current and past material on it's RCA label including recordings that had previously been released in the UK by HMV (EMI). Examples of this include Hound Dog & All Shook Up. Elvis records issued in the UK on the original HMV label are always sought after by collectors and can be quite valuable.

stoutfellow51 8th Dec 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley With The Jordanaires - Pot Luck | This was the last Elvis UK album to carry the large silver spot RCA logo, from now on all Elvis UK LP's would be on RCA Victor.

stoutfellow51 15th Nov 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - With The Beatles | Just realised that this was originally released on the same day that JFK was assassinated.

stoutfellow51 15th Oct 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis' Golden Records | @memphis martin
Thanks for the info.
Both South Pacific and The Sound of Music were released on the Red Seal label in the UK and as you say it was most unusual for the label to be used for a non-soundtrack or classical release.
One wonders whether the original gatefold sleeve release attracted a premium price tag when it came out.

stoutfellow51 14th Oct 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis' Golden Records | I have asked admin. to consider changing the label from RCA Victor Red Seal to RCA Red Seal in line with the 1958 release. Also uploaded 1958 "RCA" rear sleeve.
|
stoutfellow51 6th Oct 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley With The Jordanaires - His Hand In Mine | My copy has the flipback rear sleeve with "May 1961 Saltcoats" written on the back. As the album was only released that exact same month then presumably the first pressings all came in a flipback sleeve and subsequent releases came in the laminated sleeve. It has the large RCA silver spot label with E/T tax code.
A really great album, done with conviction and with care.

stoutfellow51 5th Sep 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite | Does anyone know if the Quadrophonic mix of this album was ever released in the UK, or was that version only available in the USA.
|
stoutfellow51 12th Aug 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis Is Back! | Very few homes in the UK had a stereo system back in 1960 so demand for this stereo version would have been quite low. An original stereo album on the 1960's RCA black label is likely to be quite a rarity, it was only in the early 1970's that stereo pop records became the norm in the UK. Even then a lot of people who still had older mono record players would have had problems in trying to play stereo records on them.
|
stoutfellow51 4th Mar 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Speedway | The introduction of the RCA Orange label also brought to an end the pressing of RCA Victor records in the UK by Decca.
From now on RCA Victor products bore the notation "Manufactured by RCA Limited,England"
RCA set up its own pressing plant in Washington,Co.Durham which is presumably where most of the work was carried out.
|
stoutfellow51 22nd Feb 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Fun In Acapulco | For MM's benefit I've up-loaded the correct front and rear sleeves for the 1977 RCA Victor release of PL 42357.
The 1981 RCA International release for this album now has it's own listing.
|
stoutfellow51 22nd Feb 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - The Complete Silver Beatles | Well if the three Lennon-McCartney songs haven't been included then it can hardly be termed as "The Complete Silver Beatles". Should have been issued under "The Incomplete Silver Beatles Rip-Off"
|
stoutfellow51 21st Feb 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis Is Back! | The first UK release on INTS 5141 Green label was in late 1981.
The NL 89013 release as shown here was on the black label in stereo and distributed across Europe (including the UK ) from 1984. Country of manufacture is Germany.
|
stoutfellow51 13th Feb 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Flaming Star & Summer Kisses | I had no idea that the album had been re-issued in 1969 Memphis Martin. Wherever did you come across that copy, I always thought it had disappeared without trace in 1965.
|
stoutfellow51 29th Jan 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis For Every One | This version will be quite rare as not many people had the correct equipment to play stereo albums back in 1965.
|
stoutfellow51 7th Jan 2017 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis For Everyone | The USA version of this album had Summer Kisses, Winter Tears as track A2 instead of Wild In The Country. As far as I know all the available CD versions feature the USA track-listing which means that the UK release is only available on vinyl.

stoutfellow51 22nd Dec 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis' Gold Records Volume 4 | Thanks for the info. memphis martin. I picked up a stereo copy of this album just recently and had some difficulty in placing it as it had an orange label but was housed in the old style 1968 RCA Victor boxed logo sleeve.
But after looking at your uploads it turns out that I have the 1970 pressing with the large orange label housed in it's appropriate correct sleeve.
Once again, many thanks and keep up the good work.
|
stoutfellow51 3rd Dec 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific | I'm going to stick my neck out and say that the RCA Victor labels/sleeves are from 1960's re-pressings whereas the RCA Red Seal labels/sleeves are all from the earlier (original) 1950's issues. This album was released in both formats- mono & stereo and it is possible that each variant had a different sleeve as well as a slightly different label. There are also Gatefold sleeves to be had as well the normal ones.

stoutfellow51 18th Nov 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Loving You | 10 inch vinyl albums were a very rare thing indeed, even in the 1950's. The standard format of a vinyl LP was 12" and at the time of this particular release (1957) there were three types of record being manufactured :
1. The 45 rpm 7" vinyl single and Extended Player
2. The 78 rpm 10" shellac single
3. The 33 rpm 12" vinyl LP.
The US version of this album was released in the standard 12" format with twelve tracks, so the 10" eight track UK version is somewhat unique and quite collectable.

stoutfellow51 18th Nov 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Harem Holiday | Could this awful movie and it's equally poor soundtrack be the worst of all of Elvis' releases of this type.
|
stoutfellow51 18th Nov 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - G.I. Blues | I defer to your knowledge on that point Memphis Martin. My info. came from another source which is also maintained and up-dated by individual contributors. Please feel free to correct my up-loads if you can.

stoutfellow51 16th Nov 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Elvis' Gold Records Volume 4 | The stereo version of this album is SF 7924- it had the same release date as well as the same sleeve and track-listing. Image uploaded.

stoutfellow51 14th Oct 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - I Got Lucky | A Stereo version with the same track listing but a different sleeve was released in 1975 bearing Cat. No. RCA Camden CDS 1154
|
stoutfellow51 23rd Sep 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - A Date With Elvis | There is no evidence that a stereo version of this album was released in the UK in 1959 so the rear sleeve 1148101 was probably a mis-print and later rectified.
|
stoutfellow51 20th Sep 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Rock & Roll No.2 | Great scans of the labels memphis martin.Nipper the Dog really gives it the authentic 1950's look. The HMV Elvis 78's all came with a plain blue label but the HMV LP's of that era look classy.
It is one of those must have albums for Elvis die-hards but a lot of them will have had to settle for the 1962 RCA Victor re-issue.
|
stoutfellow51 20th Sep 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - G.I. Blues | I wouldn't have expected to still see this album being re-issued in Mono as late as 1969.
You learn something every day.

stoutfellow51 20th Sep 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Blue Hawaii | First pressing (RCA) front and back cover images added- 1154693 & 1154694.
|
stoutfellow51 5th Aug 2016 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Presley - Rock & Roll No.2 | There can't be many copies still around on the original HMV label and any that are in better than average condition will be worth a bit, the same goes for Elvis' first HMV album release in the UK.
This has been re-released in various forms with new sleeves by RCA and they even did a dreadful job of giving it a fake stereo re-mix in the early 70's on the Orange label.
Elvis purists will want this HMV original or at the very worst the December 1962 RCA black label RD 7528 reissue in mono.
