Marillion - Fugazi (1988)
Though I have absolutely no evidence or proof, I reckon 1988 is far too late on this re-issue. Was it out as early as '86 to cash in on the success of Misplaced Childhood ?

Genesis - Nursery Cryme (1971)
I could listen to the whole album on repetition for a day and not get bored, but it's worth considering the wonderment of the oft overlooked "Harold The Barrel". It's pure Gilbert And Sullivan Operetta, fully formed and scripted, time changes and moodswings abounding, yet squeezed into the dimensionally defying time of 3 minutes ! A milestone in theatric UK Prog.

There really is no right or wrong on this. It's an album that's been marketed as a 12", so both sides are correct.

I'd agree it ought to stay here. The 12" Cat# was possibly used purely to enforce and emphasise the budget price of the record ?

Anyhow, it's pretty certain that 8 track / 34min records on 12" World would only lead to future strife !!

The Wailers - Burnin' (1973)
The sleeve image for this JA issue was directly lifted from the US Smash release, even down to keeping the Smash cat# SMAS-9338 in the top front right corner and spine, with only "Printed by Jamaica Times (Press) Ltd" added to the back bottom corner to show the difference.

Record Collector Price Guide has for many years listed this album as having had a poster with it, though having never seen or even heard of anyone ever owning one I must say I'm dubious of it's existence.

Maybe confusion with the Japanese 4 page insert ?

I'm guessing this is in fact the 1988 EU reissue ! I've editied the date accordingly...

Van Der Graaf Generator - The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other (1970)
I'm trying to work out if the early "wide spine" copies of this were originally meant to be light blue, or whether I just have a couple of sun bleached spines. Anyone else got a wide spine edition they can compare with ?

Marillion - Real To Reel (1985)
Though '85 is most likely it'd be best to leave it until we're certain of a date, rather than risk future accusations of making stuff up !

Marillion - Real To Reel (1985)
I can only guess that due to the probably unexpected size of success of Misplaced Childhood, EMI saw a chance to cash in on this album by quickly reissuing it in a slightly cheaper package which would draw in the many new fans the band had made in '85 as well as double selling to the rabid collector element of their fanbase. Possibly.

No, the Fame label was around from the early 80's onwards but was strictly a reissue label. This album was reissued a surprisingly short time after the original...as far as I can tell under a year, but I couldn't say for certain. Typically for a budget reissue label it didn't included a printed inner sleeve.

The Birds - These Birds Are Dangerous (1985)
JJJ, I don't think it's totally fair to say your entries were "mostly"rejected - surely it's only three or four that were queried ? And that was when 12" World was just starting out and everyone was trying to find agreeable parameters...we all had entries put before "The Board" and rejected (me included).

Adding Guidelines For 12"World :

"If it's 45rpm and under 25 minutes playing time then it's nearly always classified as a single or EP and is admissable (on 12" World)."

I think we've tried to be as consistent as possible on 12" World, but it really isn't an exact science.

ps. I agree there's something to be said for the suggestion of having all 12" formats in the same place !!

Half Man Half Biscuit - 90 Bisodol (Crimond) (2011)
Track 4 written by Henny Wassenaar and Corien Steenstra. From the album sleeve notes :

"The original version of this song was entered into a competition to celebrate the arrival of the 2010 European Korfball Championships in Leeuwarden, Netherlands (it came second but in the words of the town mayor Ferd Crone - "it should have won and as a consequence of it not doing so I have much spite towards the victor")."

For reference I've got B-2U on Side Two (so SHSP 4111 A-2U, B-2U, 4112 A-1U, B-2U TML-M). However, on a huge selling record like this it would've been pressed in large numbers in advance of release and I personally think that "first pressings" are likely to span a number of matrix variations.

Can't help with the ICE issue, I'm afraid !

Pink Floyd - The Wall (1979)
From the infallable pages of Wikipedia :

"In advance of its release, technical constraints led to some changes being made to the running order and content of The Wall, with "What Shall We Do Now?" being replaced by the similar but shorter "Empty Spaces", and "Hey You" being moved from its original place at the end of side three, to the beginning. With the November 1979 deadline approaching, the band left the now-incorrect inner sleeves of the album unchanged."

Pink Floyd - The Wall (1979)
The lyrics "What Shall We Do Now" seem to be an alternate draft to "Empty Spaces", which is just the four lines :

"What shall we do to fill the empty spaces,
Where we used to talk,
How should I fill the final places,
How should I complete the wall..
."[straight into "Young Lust]

Possibly the extra words are from the film soundtrack (which I haven't seen for a good 20 years), or even more (or less ?!) possibly there's a backward/obscured spoken word passage on the lead in to "Empty Spaces", so maybe it's from there ?

Most likely is that they were just extra words that Rog didn't want to see wasted...

Nice work, mlgh224 !

For the cause I've dug out and added my solid prism copy, which has been boxed up for six weeks awaiting an endlessly postponed house move. Don't get me started.

Yes, I think Messrs Rothery, Trewavas, Kelly and even Pointer would've had something to say there ;-)
