Lighter fuel sometimes works, also Good for 45s

bill mann 25th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMCharlie Gracie - Fabulous / Just Lookin' (1957) | A belated agreement with camshaft, a 'I had this once' or whatever, button is a good idea
bill mann 20th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMBilly Boy - I Wish You Would / I Was Fooled (1955) | Top class double sider from Bill Boy Arnold.
bill mann 20th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMElvis Presley - Heartbreak Hotel / I Was The One (1956) | 'Heartbreak Hotel' composer 'Axpon' ???
bill mann 20th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMJimmie Rodgers - Rodgers' Puzzle Record / Let Me Be Your Side Track (1932) | I have a couple of books on Jimmie. One has a photo of 'The Jimmie Rodgers Picture Disc'
Anyone got this ?

bill mann 20th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMLouis Jordan And His Tympany Five - Ain't That Just Like A Woman (They'll Do It Every Time) / If It's Love You Want Baby, That's Me (1946) | Fats Domino cut a great version of the top side, also I think Chuck Berry [who dug Louis] was taking note of guitarist Carl Hogan's intro and made it his own.
bill mann 19th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMJimmie Rodgers - My Old Pal / Daddy And Home (1929) | Hi molemilton, Met Jerry Lee on several occasions and one time he actually stated your 'quote', this would be in the mid 60s. Don't think much of Al, but 3 outa 4 ain't bad.
bill mann 19th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMJimmie Rodgers - My Old Pal / Daddy And Home (1929) | These Jimmie Rodgers Zonophones are really attractive. Jerry Lee Lewis loved him and cut many of his songs including 'My old Pal' and turned it into a real belter without losing any of the song's character. I don't have any of Jimmies 78s, but have a cd boxset and an HMV EP.
He sure wrote and recorded some really good stuff in his short life.

bill mann 12th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMMoon Mullican - Yearning (Just For You) / Put Your Arms Around Me Honey (1955) | Mickey, on 'Seven nights to rock' Moon is backed by Boyd Bennett's Rockets, so it's not your typical Moon. As far as Amos is concerned, he can do no wrong for me, I've got the Mosaic box of his Aladdin stuff and named one of my West Highland Terriers after him. The other one, Jake is named after Jake La Motta.

bill mann 11th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMMoon Mullican - Yearning (Just For You) / Put Your Arms Around Me Honey (1955) | Mickey, yes I'm sure he influenced JLL, who mentioned Moon on his dates at Tito's nightspot in Stockton on his 1966 tour. My favourite Moon track is 'Seven nights to rock', very similar in content to 'Livin' like a king' by Memphis Slim on Peacock.

bill mann 11th Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMLittle Willie John - Fever / Letter From My Darling (1956) | Fever is a classic, and just about his best track. I'm told Eddie Cochran did this on his UK tour, anyone confirm ?

bill mann 3rd Feb 2013 | | 78 RPMJohnny Fuller - Don't Slam That Door / Restless (1956) | Got this one on 45
bill mann 30th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMLouis Jordan And His Tympany Five - That Chick's Too Young To Fry / Choo Choo Ch'Boogie (1947) | Great record, even greater label !
bill mann 29th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMJackie Brenston And His Delta Cats - My Real Gone Rocket / Tuckered Out (1951) | I like this better than 'Rocket 88' especially the way the sax solo takes off, just brilliant !
bill mann 29th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMJoe Clay - Sixteen Chicks / Duck Tail (1956) | Me too ! The tracks with Mickey Baker playing lead are just tremendous, with superb driving solos from Mickey
bill mann 28th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMSonny Fisher - Rockin' Daddy / Hold Me Baby (1955) | Another nice one ! This is the best version of this oft recorded song, all Sonny's Stardays have real good guitar by Joey Long. Note the date too, real early, less than a year after Elvis's first record.
bill mann 28th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMBobby Charles - One Eyed Jack / Yea Yea Baby (1957) | These Chess 78 labels are great are they not? I agree with Mickey about the cd of Bobby's Chess stuff. I have all Bobby's Chess 45s, all well played, and all still have better sound than the cd.
bill mann 28th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMMac Curtis - If I Had Me A Woman / Just So You Call Me (1956) | Nice one !
bill mann 25th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMSonny Burgess - Restless / Ain't Got A Thing (1957) | Another killer diller from Sonny. this was the first Sonny Burgess record I bought [45 copy] back in 1964/5, paid 15 bob for it in an auction, been a big fan ever since.
bill mann 25th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPM"Sonny Boy" Williamson - She Brought Life Back To The Dead / Gettin' Out Of Town (1954) | I think Sonny Boy's best sides were cut for Trumpet, I like 'em better than the Checker stuff a few years later, and they're pretty damn good also.
bill mann 24th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMJack Scott - My True Love / Leroy (1958) | What a boringly plain label, not much imagination shown here !
bill mann 23rd Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMSonny Burgess - Red Headed Woman / We Wanna Boogie (1956) | Sonny is one of the all time great rock 'n' roll singers, and this is truly a thing of beauty. I have two different pressings of the 45, but wish I had a copy of the 78.
bill mann 18th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMBlind Lemon Jefferson - Black Horse Blues / Corinna Blues (1926) | Much better than a carriage clock !
bill mann 15th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMSlim Whitman - Restless Heart / Song Of The Old Water Wheel (1953) | I remember my Uncle Ted had this one. Haven't heard it in many a year but I well remember the steel guitar sound on 'Waterwheel' after nigh on 60 years. 'The old miller seems to be lost in his dreams', me too sometimes.
bill mann 14th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMScreamin' Jay Hawkins - I Put A Spell On You / Little Demon (1958) | Is 1956 the correct year for the UK issue ? Apparently Marty Wilde asked Philips to issue this over here after hearing it in New York, so '56 would seem a little early. Whatever, this is certainly a thing of beauty .
bill mann 10th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMElvis Presley - One Night / I Got Stung (1959) | Strawberry - 'One night' is a version of Smiley Lewis's song issued in UK on London HLU 8312 in 1956. Elvis's version is a considerably cleaned up version of Smiley's who had 'One night of sin is what I'm now paying for', not exactly pc in 1959 for Elvis, who had enough grief with his hips earlier in his career, Parker would have, I'm sure, put the kybosh on the original lyric to keep 'His boy' sweet with the authorities.
bill mann 10th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMElvis Presley - Baby Let's Play House / I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone (1955) | bobz - These scans don't look like the same disc to me either, type settings are different, gaps between song title words on one side, no gaps on t'other, plus the obvious colour shades are a mile apart. Also heavy ring wear one, none on the other. I've never heard of a vinyl 78 on Sun before but it's not impossible I suppose.
bill mann 9th Jan 2013 | | 78 RPMGene Vincent And His Blue Caps - Race With The Devil / Gonna Back Up Baby (1956) | I have two copies of this, one with text as shown, the other with a block type text
