Lee Wrecker 25th Jan 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumJames Brown - You've Got The Power (2018) | The "New Continent" label is a new one on me but they seem to specialise in public domain recordings. At least that what I think they do otherwise this is a bootleg. I'm not sure how this got released but I'm sure glad to have picked it up. If PhilMH is about could you tell me about legitimacy of these New Continent releases? Is this stuff in the public domain now and does anyone know anything about this label?

Lee Wrecker 13th Jan 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumPeter Tosh - Equal Rights (1977) | The label here is CBS and not Columbia as listed. In Australia in 1977 the Columbia label would have been the EMI owned UK imprint until it was eventually sold to, you guessed it CBS (USA) in 1989. The switch occurred in the CD era and is the reason that many CDs by Columbia artists were released on both labels outside the USA and Japan.

Lee Wrecker 10th Jan 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Costello And The Attractions - Armed Forces (2015) | That will be the work of GZ Media (Czech Rep.) who are notorious for poor quality control. Unfortunately, they also press a huge amount of new releases (re-issues) due to the global lack of pressing plants. The much touted heavyweight vinyl and original master tapes cannot overcome a shoddy, scuffed, poppy, hand-marked pressing. So many new re-issues are plagued by this issue it really is pot luck to get a good one. Try to stick to known quality labels like Third Man who always take care across the whole package. Rhino has also upped its game in this respect in the last few years but not on all releases. It is a shame that a lot of new 180 vinyl releases sound as bad as a picture disc.

Lee Wrecker 3rd Jan 2021 | | Vinyl AlbumYusuf / Cat Stevens - Tea For The Tillerman 2 (2020) | Hello Phil and MoreFloyd, just thought I'd chime in and support Phil's view that the label here should be Island. Cat-O-Log is not really a label at all but more like Paul McCartney's MPL (a publishing house that sometimes masquerades as a label). These entities are more concerned with protecting the work of an artist through ownership, copyright control and royalty payment rather than releasing records or CDs.
Universal Music Catalogue is the parent music corporation. So the Discogs listing you supplied in an earlier comment "Island / Cat-O-Log / UMC" is correct. Think of old Floyd releases Harvest / Penjane / EMI or Beatles Parlophone / Northern Songs / EMI and you'll get the drift. So I'd back up Phil's call that label here should be Island on that basis.

Lee Wrecker 24th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumAlice Cooper - School Days (1973) | The UK Burbank labels were introduced in 1973 and lasted till round about 1978 . It is feasible that both label versions were first pressings available in the year of release if the change occurred during the production phase of this album. See here for more.

Lee Wrecker 22nd Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumDavid Bowie - Scary Monsters (2018) | Thanks to the MOD that fixed the images problem with this entry. I've deleted the comment that related to it in case anyone is wondering what it was all about but there are sometimes issues with images disappearing or appearing to be other different images in different parts of the world at the same time. Thems the breaks.

Lee Wrecker 16th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Abbey Road (2006) | This album was not released in 1995 but eleven years later in 2006. The label should be Capitol as the Apple logo appears nowhere on the sleeve. Although you'd likely think it was an Apple release looking at the label. There are two very similar versions of this album. The back cover on this one has Capitol and EMI logos which corresponds with the linked 2006 release and the 1995 version has Capitol/Apple logos. Both albums carry the same cat#s and barcodes just to make it a little more confusing but they are definitely not the same and need separate entries. We don't have the 1995 version on the site so we should just change the date here to 2006 and the label to Capitol or Capitol / EMI and this entry will be correct.
I bought this new from a USA global superstore about 7 or 8 years ago and when I ticked the "I Own" box remember being quite surprised that my new sealed album was nearly 20 years old. As it turns out it wasn't but the albums are very similar on the face of it except for EMI Apple differences on the back sleeve. The links provided above provide some further minor details that differentiate the two albums such as missing apostrophes on the label of this 2006 release which check out with the images posted here and my own copy at home. The notes should also be amended and references to the Anthology releases in itallics deleted. Correction sent.

Lee Wrecker 15th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumSiouxsie And The Banshees - Kaleidoscope (2018) | I'm very surprised that this excellent re-mastered version of this album wasn't already listed on the site. Luckily, I retrieved the cover sticker from the bin before it went out and was able to put together a full set of images. I should know better than to toss stickers in the bin but I wasn't expecting to have to do this entry. I have a new A3 scanner and it's upped the ante on my images no end but I'm not redoing my collection. Oh no, no, no.
By the way this is a fantastic re-issue and is exactly what it says on the tin, the vinyl is quiet, smooth and shiny and better still the sound is crystal clear. Now why can't all re-issues be like that?

Lee Wrecker 15th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumEspers - Espers (2020) | All songs by Espers but no credits are evident on the product.

Lee Wrecker 13th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumOrganisation - Tone Float (2020) | Added a full set of scans for moderation and inclusion. Although this is a bootleg (I will send a correction) it is one of the best if not the best I've ever heard. A genuine 180gr pressing cleanly and well pressed at GZ Media which is good because they can be patchy but this album is a good pressing (at least my copy is). The giveaway signs are the blurry type in the white box (top of back cover) and the wrongly titled track B2 Rhythm Island (Rhythm Salad) but there's more if you delve a little deeper.
It states "manufactured under license from ODL" on the back cover and that may well be the case but ODL is a label that mainly specialises in releasing live radio broadcasts and is registered in Cypress along with the rest of the labels in the Obiterdictum Media Ltd. stable. All of their listings in all of their catalogues are unofficial releases or in other words bootlegs. So we should list this as bootleg.
Even though it is a bootleg I'm very glad to have it as the 1970 RCA original linked below is well out of my price range at $1200 Australian. So it's a great album at a great price if you can live with the fact it's not entirely all above board.

Lee Wrecker 12th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumPaul McCartney - Paul Is Live (2019) | I believe this was also released in the USA (see here and is available in Australia as well) their are many other countries also where this is available if anyone cares to look. This was pressed in the EU but intended for global distribution. The distribution networks and practises the major music corporations set up in the CD have come to plague Vinyl Albums world.

Lee Wrecker 12th Dec 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumOrganisation - Tone Float (2020) | I'll do a set of scans for this one soon so we have full size of images on the page. Thanks to 78rpm-maniac for doing the entry and providing photos of the album. Although this album says it has been licensed the other site lists this as "unofficial" does anyone no why. I see bootlegs have been getting about since 1994 on the "Germanofon" krautrock bootleg label so is this just the most recent edition in a long line of bootlegs? It is very well pressed and sounds fantastic but is it a legitimate release or not I don't know. Can anybody shed some light on that score?
Also, it should be noted that track B2 is actually titled Rhythm Salad on the original album (linked below) but is named Rhythm Island on both the label and cover of this release.

Lee Wrecker 16th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumRolling Stones - Steel Wheels (1993) | Alleviating the pain and tedium of having to listen to the whole thing. A great idea. Another great single ruined by extra tracks. Someone bought this (the longer version) for me for my birthday once because they knew I was a Stones fan. That was not enough though to sit through this crap and pretend it was good. It was disposed of shortly after the second listen and has never been missed.

Lee Wrecker 5th Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (2012) | I have several and have sent one back (Let It Be) and still have copy of the White Album that is very poppy (been cleaned three times) which is very annoying. On the other hand I have this which is a nice pressing, Revolver, Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper's which I also have are all very good too. Seems to be a bit of luck of the draw though so quality control is an issue with Rainbo pressings. Some LPs were completely withdrawn from Amazon when they started to flood back in the USA. Modern represses are very much a hit and miss affair in my experience and it's a great shame the hype and hefty price tags are often attached to very shoddy final products.

Lee Wrecker 3rd Oct 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumJilted John - True Love Stories (1978) | ReviewI bought this when it came out and sold it shortly afterwards. Absolute crap would be my verdict. Jilted John was a punk novelty act and the original "Jilted John" single had some charm even though it was a bit long. I still have that single though but the LP is a different story or rather the same story given the record company cash in treatment and is overly produced filler at best. Even the single "Jilted John" on this record is a re-recorded airbrushed version and the quirky charm of the original is single is completely lost. The rest of the album is basically a needless extension of the same story that the "Jilted John" song expounds and needlessly fills in the details of the boy likes girl, girl goes off with popular knobhead narrative. A good novelty single ruined and the rest is totally unremarkable filler. Avoid at all costs, don't even accept this LP as a gift is my advice,

Lee Wrecker 27th Sep 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumVarious Artists - Dance Craze (2020) | Hello Robert, I think it's fairly black and white here that the label should in fact be 2 Tone. There is no Chrysalis logo to be seen on the cover or labels themselves. It also should be an international release (see here for more). "Today there are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica." so as far as our guidelines go that makes everything from Record Store Day's international.
I know Chrysalis owns the 2 Tone label but that does not make Chrysalis the label of release. A tricky one to enter though given that the wrong label in this case is widely used across the net and on the other site's listing page too. It is correctly listed here though at a UK store. I've submitted a correction and we'll see what the MODS think.

Lee Wrecker 26th Sep 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumBonzo Dog Band - Let's Make Up And Be Friendly (1978) | Not as bad a people say but nothing really is, is it? Or is it? People expect so much but give so little. Oh, there's my taxi!

Lee Wrecker 23rd Sep 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumJohn Keen - Previous Convictions (1973) | Wow Wee! A fantastic effort Leonard and all of my hats are off to you. You could have added that they are top quality images in your comment as the work you do is always of a high (very) standard. I stand in awe as a 5-6000 image man and I know how many years that took me. Congratulations on a spectacular effort. Insert fireworks and a lot of admiration and appreciation. You are magnificent!

Lee Wrecker 15th Sep 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumHiroshi Yoshimura - Green (2020) | Added all missing scans and all missing info but can't access notes because this is not my entry. Added a cover shot for moderation for good measure. There are four separate versions clear vinyl, black vinyl, translucent green vinyl and plain green vinyl of this release all with different barcodes. Do they all belong here? Or do we have separate entries for each one they all carry the same cat# LITA 192. This information should however make it into the notes which I can't access. A brilliant album by the way.

Lee Wrecker 8th Sep 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumElvis Costello - My Aim Is True (1977) | Linked to UK SEEZ 3 release which is the primary release for this record. Strange NZ didn't get "Watching The Detectives" as a bonus song like we did here in Australia. Maybe it didn't make the same chart impact as it did here?

Lee Wrecker 5th Sep 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumHiroshi Yoshimura - Green (2020) | Hello Doctor, I have this album and will complete the entry soon. The album does have a barcode and an obi strip so I'll scan it up in the coming week.

Lee Wrecker 18th Aug 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumPink Floyd - A Nice Pair (1973) | Usually goes for less than a tenth of the price listed here. This site has the median price at 22 Australian Dollars and that would be about $15 US so $297 Australian as listed here is way over the odds.

Lee Wrecker 18th Aug 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumBaby Huey - The Baby Huey Story / The Living Legend (1971) | Linked to 2013 re-issue and 1971 UK Buddah release. This and the 2013 US re-release have the same label and cat# but different distributors. Buddah on this one and Rhino on the re-issue is that enough to keep them separated or should they be merged?

Lee Wrecker 5th Aug 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumEric Clapton - Eric Clapton (1975) | mowdamowda this was given to me as a teenager in the 70's and after hearing of the legendary Clapton I was surprised at how crappy this album sounded. No-one must have checked the master on both releases because I'm sure this RSO repress did the same thing. Someone gave me another copy (the one I used for this entry) 4 years ago and I just scanned it and traded it in without listening to it at all. My memory of it was so bad I couldn't even face giving it a spin and I was always miffed by the high ratings this album seemed to have in other parts of the world. Thanks for information it all makes sense to me now.

Lee Wrecker 29th Jul 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Temptations - Cloud Nine (2018) | Hi VJ, yes, there is something very odd about it as it is yet to be assigned to any country at all. Could it have been made on another planet? The only thing to go on is the back cover states "manufactured and distributed by Universal Music Enterprises, a division of UMG Recordings Group Inc. 2220 Colorado Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90404". Where it was actually made and distributed is a complete mystery as "GS1 member companies can manufacture products anywhere in the world" and I got my copy from JB Hi Fi yesterday. So how to list this one is really anyone's guess but the unreliable Discwrongs lists it as USA and the address on the cover is a USA address so I went with that. It is however, also an Australian release due to the fact that JB can order it, as they can with just about new vinyl these days as regular stock.
The problems with country classification apparent in CD Albums world are manifesting themselves in Vinyl Albums world due to the globalisation of manufacturing and distributing practises witnessed in the CD era also being the norm for current LP production and distribution. Here's an LP I cheekily yet still correctly listed as an Australian release (check link on page), it is also the EU release and an international release depending how you wish to interpret our guidelines. The same thing applies to this record and it can be correctly listed three (or more) different ways. It certainly is a conundrum.

Lee Wrecker 28th Jul 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Temptations - Cloud Nine (2018) | Vinyl is more of a purple colour in real life but we all know that weird things can happen scanning coloured vinyl. A nicely produced re-issue from 2018 but would have been nice to see it come out on the Gordy label. Bought in Australia new from a regular store but it seems silly to list it as Australian (it is) or International (it is that too) so I stuck with the USA where it was made and was most likely the primary market.

Lee Wrecker 1st Jul 2020 | | Vinyl AlbumThe Psychedelic Furs - The Psychedelic Furs (1980) | Columbia cat#s starting with the letter N (cheaper cost price, full retail price but non-returnable) were used to promote new artists/albums or even established artists if the label was trying to push an album or artist at the time. Therefore, albums with "N" prefix are usually first releases.
